 Several telecommunication analysts participated in a preview of Bell Mobility next generation (1X) wireless network service. Here's what they had to say about their experience: "For people who are mobile, like sales and field personnel,
this wireless technology provides a convenient way to check
on e-mail and other events through the internet without having
to carry around another piece of equipment. Just your cell
phone, a cable and your notebook, and you are ready to go." "I found the service easy to use and didn't experience
any problems configuring the phone to work with my existing
Internet applications (including streaming media) . During
the trial I used 1X data on a fairly regular basis and found
it to be much more convenient than the circuit switched data
offerings. The combination of an always-on network connection
and faster data transfer speeds significantly enhanced the
value proposition of mobile data services. As well, I anticipate
that usage-based billing will make 1X data more cost effective
than circuit switched data. The 1X network puts a platform
in place, whose value will be further enhanced over the next
year as additional applications and devices are brought to
market." "The verdict: [it] worked very well indeed.... Speeds
were comparable to a 56 Kbps dial-up modem. But the overall
experience beats dial-up by a mile. The new 2.5G packet-data
standards provide a data link that is active whenever the
unit is on -- there is no dial-up. It is still necessary to
activate software on the laptop, but the network link is established
without fail in under 10 seconds -- no busy signals. And of
course the connection is mobile." "'1x data allowed me to be truly mobile. Finally, we
can actually work as if we were in the office - all wirelessly." "Having used and tested numerous wireless Internet-enabled
cell phones, services and applications during the last few
years, this next-generation Bell Mobility product with the
associated high-speed network and user-friendly interface
is finally starting to meet my requirements as a senior executive
who depends on keeping in touch disregarding media. We look
forward to further roll out of IXRT and 3G network capabilities
across Canada and North America to support our growing requirements
for high speed remote access, convenience, mobility and reliability
as a telecommunications-dependent consulting firm." "The flexibility provided with mobility will prove key
to my decision to adopt the service in the future."
