There are a number of active working groups within the IRT focusing on different initiatives:

- Promotes international and inter-standard roaming through marketing collaboration among members
- Activates roaming business among members by bringing up new ideas and implementing them
- Supports the proliferation of CDMA and related technologies through collaborative marketing-related implementation among members.

- Develops recommendations for the CDMA community on commercial voice, SMS and packet data roaming issues.
- Endeavors to streamline and standardize the recommended implementation and maintenance of CDMA to CDMA roaming.

- Develops and standardizes technical recommendations for CDMA2000 roaming services.
- Facilitates discussion about voice, SMS and packet data roaming issues between operators.
