CDMA CERTIFICATION FORUM CERTIFIES NOKIA HANDSET
Nokia’s use of the CCF process further demonstrates the value of the CCF test platform to the CDMA industry
Costa Mesa and San Diego, Calif. – June 6, 2006 – The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) and Nokia today announced that the CDMA Certification Forum (CCF) has certified the Nokia 2355 CDMA2000® 1X phone for commercial availability.
Nokia is the first tier-one handset manufacturer to utilize the CCF’s streamlined test and global certification process. The Nokia 2355 mobile phone was tested by Wireless Test Systems (WTS) in San Diego using the standard CCF Lab (CCF-L) test plan, which increases the number of test cases conducted by 40 percent over other test processes. A handset that receives CCF certification has passed all of the required test cases based on the features and functionality supported by the device and is ready for carrier acceptance.
“The CCF is pleased to have Nokia’s support of the CCF certification process. As the world’s leading provider of mobile devices, Nokia realizes the importance of streamlining device testing,” said Thom Erickson, president and CEO of the CCF. “With the CCF certification process, CDMA2000 devices can be tested and certified in less time with increased test coverage at a cost that is 20 percent of the traditional test process.”
“It is important that Nokia brings handsets to market in the quickest and most cost effective manner,” said Larry Paulson, vice president of product marketing for Nokia's CDMA business group. “With the CCF test process, Nokia realized a five-week reduction in the time required to test the device, along with a 79 percent reduction in certification costs compared to the traditional test process.”
“Device manufacturers are constantly searching for ways to bring products to market quicker and at a lower cost,” said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. “Nokia’s use of the CCF test process further illustrates the value that the CCF provides in helping device manufacturers achieve these goals.”
