INITIATIVE LAUNCHED TO ACCELERATE DEPLOYMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF APPLICATIONS FOR CDMA MARKET APPLICATION DEVELOPERS
Workshop To Be Held During CDMA Americas Congress
COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 1, 2001 - The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today announced that it has launched an applications initiative to promote the development and deployment of applications for CDMA-based technologies. The purpose of the initiative is to provide content and application developers a forum where they can work with operators and manufacturers to deliver advanced services for cdmaOne and CDMA2000 networks.
"CDMA technologies, both cdmaOne and CDMA2000, have been designed with the Internet in mind, making them the ideal platforms on which to build advanced applications. With the applications initiative, we want to capitalize on these capabilities and promote the delivery of advanced services that the market wants," said Perry LaForge, executive director for the CDG. "We invite all companies that are developing content and applications to join us in shaping the future of the wireless Internet."
Under the applications initiative umbrella, the CDG is launching a number of teams that will focus on technical issues associated with the rollout of wireless applications. The first of these is the Applications Management Team, which is developing requirements to facilitate end-to-end management of wireless applications. Other CDG teams conducting applications-related work include the Operator and Manufacturer Evolution Teams and the IP-based OTA Handset Configuration Management Team.
The CDG is hosting an Application Developer's Workshop as part of the 2001 CDMA Americas Congress on Wednesday, October 31, in San Diego. During this full-day event, CDMA operators, network and terminal vendors, and leading platform providers will discuss how to build applications for 2G and 3G CDMA using J2ME, BREW, WAP and other technologies.
