Orlando, Fla., Sept. 23, 1998 -- Today at the Personal Communications Showcase (PCS '98) in Orlando, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) announced that the number of cdmaOne handset choices has doubled over the past year - currently, there are more than 70 different models produced by 14 global cdmaOne manufacturers. The incredible success of cdmaOne, the fastest ever wireless technology to market, is benefiting the 16 million subscribers to date by offering a wide range of equipment, advanced features and superior performance.

"The increase in cdmaOne handsets is another example of unprecedented growth of cdmaOne around the world," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "Wireless industry manufacturers are rallying around the demand for cdmaOne handsets, with the number of cdmaOne handset models virtually doubling over the past year."

CDG members introducing new cdmaOne handsets since the beginning of the year include Audiovox, Hyundai, LGIC, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, OKI Telecom, Philips, QUALCOMM, Samsung and Sony.

Consumers who purchase cdmaOne handsets experience the wireless industry's most advanced features including expanded design options, superior voice quality and short messaging services. The 70 different cdmaOne handset models provide consumers with value-added features including caller identification and voice mail notification, coupled with performance benefits such as industry-leading in-building penetration, longer battery talk and standby time, increased privacy and better security.

Additionally, in order to facilitate domestic and international roaming, the availability of multi-mode phones is rapidly expanding. Dual band/dual mode PCS CDMA/AMPS phones and dual mode cellular CDMA/AMPS phones are available from a number of manufacturers and will be joined soon by a tri-mode PCS CDMA/cellular CDMA/AMPS phone. These handset models offer the consumer the advantages of CDMA digital services along with expanded coverage.
