cdmaOne Fixed Wireless Networks Availability
Increases Globally
BERLIN, Oct. 20, 1998 -- Indicative of cdmaOne technology's
emergence as the global wireless local loop (WLL) standard,
the CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that the
cdmaOne WLL network deployment rate has significantly increased
globally, especially in Eastern Europe. With more than 45
cdmaOne WLL trial and commercial contracts signed in 23 countries,
the technology is now deployed on every major continent. *(See
attached chart for full country by country deployment
of cdmaOne WLL)
Today's announcement was made by Perry LaForge, executive
director for the CDG, at the Second Annual CDMA European Regional
Congress at the Radisson SAS in Berlin, Germany. The CDMA
European Regional Congress will continue through October 22,
1998.
"With 9 cdmaOne WLL contracts signed in Russia, Poland
and the Ukraine, Eastern Europe has clearly emerged as a growth
market for cdmaOne fixed wireless networks," said Perry
LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "cdmaOne WLL
enables operators in developing countries to offer or expand
local telephone service cost effectively. WLL continues to
accelerate around the world and the proven ability of cdmaOne
as a solution for providing wireline equivalent voice and
data services, ensure the technology's continued growth. We
expect to see more than 60 cdmaOne WLL systems deployed by
year-end."
cdmaOne WLL offers operators a flexible and cost effective
solution to their subscriber demands by providing a substitute
to wireline. With the technology's inherent ability to provide
increased, superior capacity, cdmaOne gives operators a financially
and technologically attractive option for delivering service
on their WLL network. In addition, with cdmaOne, WLL operators
have a technology that offers service differentiation and
an evolution path to enhanced services.
cdmaOne WLL networks also allow for a number of unique features
such as variable rate vocoders, robust error correction, frequency,
space and time diversity, and multipath immunity.
