Fastest Growing Wireless Technology Continues to Capture Major Growth Markets Globally COSTA MESA, Calif. Nov 3, 1998 -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that cdmaOne, the world's fastest growing wireless technology, has now expanded its footprint in the Australian wireless market. Telstra, Australia's principal telecommunications company, has formally announced that it has adopted cdmaOne and will deploy the technology nationally, potentially reaching three million customers. "This represents another significant win for cdmaOne. We are very pleased that Telstra has selected CDMA, particularly since they conducted such an exhaustive study of cdmaOne and the other technologies," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "Australia will have both CDMA WLL and cellular systems and will be a key country in the establishment of a worldwide cdmaOne network, facilitating roaming throughout the Asia Pacific region." In a press release dated October 13, Telstra announced that
it plans to commercially launch cdmaOne systems in mid 1999
in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. The initial
launch will be rapidly followed by further rollout into regional
locations covered by the existing analog network.
