• KnockON – instead of hitting a power button, simply tap twice on the display to wake the G2 from its sleep. It's a nice convenience that goes hand-in-hand with Answer Me, which automatically answers calls when you put the phone to your ear.

• Slide Aside – allows users to do a three-finger gesture to "slide" open apps off the screen for multitasking.

• Text Link – another interesting idea, where the phone takes relevant text and inserts embeddable links to them in other apps.

• Guest Mode – also known as ‘Kid Mode,’ which allows another user to access the phone by drawing a different gesture on the lock screen with a secondary unlock pattern3.

Kyocera Kona from Sprint helps to solve that problem by providing an easy-to-use compact flip phone that is the first feature phone in the industry to offer verbal translation enabling Internet browsing.

Kyocera Kona is available in direct-ship sales channels Web (www.sprint.com) and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1 ) for free after a $50 mail-in rebate via reward card1 and with a new two-year service agreement or eligible upgrade. It will be available in all remaining Sprint retail channels beginning Friday, Sept. 13. Kyocera Kona is the latest enhancement to Sprint’s product portfolio designed to ensure accessibility for all.

According to the National Federation of the Blind, more than 6.5 million people reported a visual disability in 2011.2 Kona is also the first feature phone to offer a user interface with verbal descriptions of navigation, with which the device describes what is highlighted on the screen and works with menus, messaging, contacts, missed calls, notifications, and many other functions.

Other accessibility features include variable speed text to speech service, which reads texts to users, high-contrast user interface options to accommodate a variety of vision ranges, dedicated In Case of Emergency (ICE) and 911 shortcuts, and a tactile keyboard with well-defined buttons.

"Sprint has always been dedicated to ensuring accessibility – whether it’s our award-winning accessibility Sprint ID application bundles or a device like Kona providing first-of-its-kind features for the visually impaired,” said David Owens, vice president-Product Development, Sprint. “We are providing this product free of charge because we want anyone who has a unique need to be able to take advantage of this great new offering.”

The new Unlimited, My WaySM rate plans for basic phones feature unlimited talk, text and data while on the Sprint network for only $60 per month (excluding taxes and fees). Kyocera Kona is a CDMA2000® 1X-Advanced flip phone featuring a 2.4-inch QVGA TFT LCD internal color display as well as a 1.44-inch TFT LCD color external display. Capturing quick snapshots is easy with Kona's 2-megapixel camera with 2x zoom and dedicated function key. Calls can be safely taken over Bluetooth® wireless technology (2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate), via the 3.5mm headset jack or through the speakerphone with dedicated function key. As part of its all-new network buildout, Sprint is bringing an enhanced 3G experience with better wireless signal strength, in-building coverage, and fewer dropped/blocked calls. These 3G improvements are already available to customers in several cities across the country, such as Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. Sprint Integrated Insurance Solutions Launches Text Disablement

Sprint Integrated Insurance Solutions Launches Text Disablement OVERLAND PARK, Kan., September 03, 2013 - Sprint today announced that it is expanding its Integrated Insurance Solutions portfolio with two new products, text disablement and premium connected services.

Working with Modus, Sprint launched an innovative text disablement product that goes beyond the technology of many app-based solutions because it is hard wired into a device that plugs into the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic port (OBDII). The driver’s cell phone is blocked from sending and receiving text messages and surfing the Web. Blocking engages almost instantly when the vehicle begins to move while it does not affect passengers or nearby vehicles. The new text disablement system also includes geo-fencing, a safety feature that alerts parents when teen drivers stray too far. Sprint plans to unveil additional text disablement options for insurance carriers in 2014.

According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, drivers are 23 times more likely to crash if they’re texting while driving.* To help combat this problem, Sprint has expanded its portfolio of solutions for auto insurance carriers.

“Text disablement enables auto insurance carriers and self-insured organizations to improve driver risk assessment and encourage good driving behavior,” said Ben Vos-vice president, Emerging Solutions Group, Sprint. “We are working to simplify the complexities of usage-based insurance. Using Sprint machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, both insurers and policy holders gain access to important analytical data about driving behavior.”

Integrated Insurance Solutions from Sprint is a usage-based insurance platform that gives insurance carriers and self-insured organizations cutting-edge tools to help them manage risk, reduce costs and improve profitability. Policy holders can opt to have their vehicles fitted with a small device that plugs into the diagnostic port that captures data about their vehicles’ operation and performance. That data is transmitted over the Sprint wireless network to a cloud-based system that analyzes the information with driver-scoring software.

Connecting to vehicles means connecting with customers

Sprint also announced that it is adding IMS to its Integrated Insurance Solutions ecosystem. Later this year, insurance carriers will have access to IMS’ scalable usage-based insurance program, giving them more ways to connect with policy holders by offering premium connected services. This affordable aftermarket solution turns any car with an on-board diagnostic port into a connected vehicle with in-dash information and entertainment in an environment that encourages drivers to keep their eyes on the road. Premium connected services include:

Safety and convenience:

• Vehicle health

• Trip reports

• Green report

• Driver behavior

• Geofencing

• Accident detection

• Roadside assistance

Voice-powered infotainment:

• Text messaging

• Email

• Phone calls

• Local music

• Internet radio

• Facebook and Twitter updates

• Traffic routing

“This new solution combines IMS’s vision and technical leadership in the usage-based insurance space with Sprint’s expertise in M2M technology,” said Ibrahim Mohamed-chief operating officer, IMS. “We are very excited to be working with Sprint to help shape the future.”

Data is transmitted between the vehicle and a cloud-based system, over the Sprint network, where it can then be aggregated and scored by IMS, Towers Watson, Agnik or the insurance carrier’s existing scoring partner. The system functions with or without GPS, in accordance with state law. Sprint recognizes the risk customers and others face when they drive distracted. The company has taken a proactive position to provide awareness and education about the dangers of distracted driving, as well as technology solutions to promote better driving behaviors.

“Sprint is at the forefront of developing innovative products that help ensure responsible use and accessibility of wireless technology in our increasingly connected and mobile society,” said Ralph Reid-vice president of corporate social responsibility, Sprint. “We offer solutions that allow customers to minimize their environmental footprint, help motorists focus on driving, and empower seniors and people with disabilities through accessible technology. By addressing these important social issues through transparency, education and technology, we’re demonstrating how good technology works as a positive force in our society.”

Nex-Tech Wireless Announces LTE Plans

Nex-Tech Wireless Announces LTE Plans September 1, 2013 - Hays KS – Preparations are under way at Nex-Tech Wireless to deploy fourth-generation (4G) long-term evolution (LTE) technology across their network. Nex-Tech Wireless has purchased equipment for the advanced 4G wireless network from Ericsson, a world leader in mobile technologies, and installation is in process. Extensive network testing will take place in the upcoming months and Nex-Tech Wireless plans to deploy 4G LTE by the end of 2013.

“Our network strategy has always been to provide the same technology that is offered in metropolitan areas to the residents of rural Kansas” said Jeff Kisner, Director of Network Operations for Nex-Tech Wireless. “The LTE network will provide a robust experience for our customers. This investment illustrates our commitment to our customers.”

The first phase of Nex-Tech Wireless’ 4G LTE rollout will include the cities of Hays, Great Bend and Salina. Additional areas will also be covered with this first phase which is expected to be fully-operational by the end of 2013. Nex-Tech Wireless will continue their strategic rollout of the 4G LTE network in 2014.

4G LTE technology improves data speeds, which is a major benefit in this data-intensive culture. Customers will experience these increased speeds while streaming video and music, online gaming and various “cloud-based” applications. Customers can expect a data and Internet experience that is closer to real-time with download speeds averaging 6-8 mbps and upload speeds of 2-5 mbps, which is about 10 times faster than 3G.
