Sprint Enhances 3G Network Coverage in St. Louis

Sprint Enhances 3G Network Coverage in St. Louis OVERLAND PARK, Kan., March 20, 2012 - Thanks to recent 3G capacity upgrades from Sprint, residents of the Gateway City can clearly tell friends and family to “Meet Me in St. Louis” this spring, whether it’s for a baseball game, post-season college basketball game or a bike ride through Forest Park.

In the past 90 days, Sprint has implemented 32 network capacity upgrades in the St. Louis area, with 30 scheduled throughout Missouri for the next 90 days. Whether it’s St. Charles, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur or Kirkwood, Sprint customers in metro St. Louis should expect faster data speeds, fewer dropped calls and confidence that Sprint is committed to investing in Missouri and keeping pace with the ever-increasing demand for data.

So what exactly do these upgrades mean for customers? It means an even easier wireless experience. Want to catch the latest news on St. Louis’ favorite baseball team? Click on the Sprint ID ESPN pack in seconds to find out the latest. Want to watch the trailer for the new season of St. Louis’ own “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s”? Watch it on YouTube with ease.

Over the past year, Missouri has seen its Sprint 3G coverage increase by almost 15 percent, resulting in an improved wireless experience for the state, including voice, data and in-building solutions. These enhancements to the Sprint 3G network also should serve to bolster performance of the company’s no-contract brands, including devices operating on the Sprint network from Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA.

“Sprint has a strong and solid presence in St. Louis,” said Rob Bryant, regional vice president, consumer sales. “Not only do we employ hundreds of people throughout the state, but we’ve taken a leadership position with our enhanced wireless 3G network at Washington University. These latest 3G network enhancements only serve to solidify our substantial investment in St. Louis.”

Missouri is not the only state benefiting from Sprint’s network commitment. Nationwide, Sprint is overhauling its entire network and replacing existing equipment with new, advanced equipment through the Network Vision program.

Announced in December 2010, Network Vision is planned to consolidate multiple network technologies into one seamless network with the goal of increasing efficiency and enhancing network coverage, call quality and data speeds for customers. Smartphone penetration is expected to double over the next four years.* With Network Vision, Sprint is making it easier for data to travel so smartphone customers – who average 10 times more data use than feature phone customers* – can use their devices the way they were meant.

Network Vision and the recent upgrades reflect Sprint’s commitment to customer service. Sprint is unbeaten among all national carriers and most improved in customer satisfaction, across all 47 industries, over the past three years, according to the 2011 American Customer Satisfaction Index. The survey showed Sprint as the most improved company in customer satisfaction, across all industries, over the past three years.

As Sprint adds capacity across the country on the existing network – 28,513 upgrades in 2011– Network Vision work on 38,000 cell sites is underway. For a detailed look at capacity upgrades in different markets, visit www.sprint.com/network.

Fast Gets Faster: C Spire Wireless To Launch 4G LTE In 20 Markets

Fast Gets Faster: C Spire Wireless To Launch 4G LTE In 20 Markets Ridgeland, Miss. (March 8, 2012) – C Spire Wireless, the only U.S. provider that offers a suite of personalized wireless services, released details today on its plans to introduce 4G LTE (Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution) high-speed mobile broadband services this fall.

The company plans to invest $60 million to begin the roll out 4G LTE mobile broadband services in September in 20 Mississippi markets covering 2,700 square miles, a population of 1.2 million and more than 360 cell sites. The new service will provide 4 out of every 10 consumers and businesses in Mississippi with wireless data speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, allowing C Spire to be the first provider to make these services widely available in the state.

“Wireless networks are all about coverage, quality and speed, and the C Spire Wireless personalized network cannot be beat,” said Hu Meena, president and CEO for C Spire Wireless. “We will continue to lead the way with our aggressive 4G LTE network upgrades so that our customers have the wireless services that allow them to do what they want to do when they need to do it in more places that matter to them.” Today’s announcement only involves the first phase of our 4G LTE deployment. More phases and more coverage will soon follow.”

Initial Deployment Phase Planned for 20 Mississippi Markets Representing 1.2 Million Population

Meena said the company plans to begin the roll out of its 4G LTE mobile broadband services in September in the following markets, most of which will be the first time consumers have access to the high-speed technology:

• Jackson metropolitan area

• Mississippi Gulf Coast

• In South Mississippi: the cities of Brookhaven, Columbia, Natchez, Petal, Hattiesburg, McComb and Lucedale;

• In North Mississippi: the cities of Oxford, Tupelo, Corinth, New Albany, Pontotoc, Booneville, Starkville, Columbus and West Point;

• In the Mississippi Delta, the cities of Yazoo City, Cleveland, Greenville, Greenwood and Clarksdale

• In East Mississippi: the city of Meridian and parts of Lauderdale County

Mississippi business and government leaders praised C Spire for its technology investment in Mississippi. “Private sector investments like these by C Spire Wireless will help in our continued efforts to attract high-technology industries and jobs to the Magnolia state,” said Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant. “Expanding wireless broadband access through the latest and fastest technologies is critical to our state’s economic development, education, small business and health care sectors.”

Tony Jeff, president and CEO of the Mississippi Technology Alliance, said the deployment of 4G LTE services in the state will help both consumers and small businesses. "A more robust mobile broadband experience drives economic growth, stimulates jobs and equips Mississippi consumers and businesses with the latest and fastest technologies to meet their growing wireless voice and data communications needs," Jeff said. "C Spire Wireless has significantly ramped up its wireless investments to enable an experience that offers Mississippi consumers and businesses better speed, better reliability and better availability of high-speed data communications.”

C Spire is the first provider to make the next generation of high-speed mobile broadband data services widely available to Mississippians. “We’re moving aggressively to offer 4G LTE services to customers who want to experience the freedom and benefits this dramatic increase in data speeds provides,” Meena said. “Also, we’ll be the first provider to make the next generation of high-speed mobile broadband data services widely available in many parts of our service area. For consumers, this paves the way for a future of tightly integrated voice and data services.”

Lightning-Fast Upload and Download Speeds Will Be Available Over Company’s 4G LTE Network

Customers can expect to experience average data speeds from 4 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) when downloading content and speeds from 1 to 5 Mbps when uploading content on the company’s 4G LTE network, according to David Smith, vice president of Network Engineering for C Spire Wireless.

“Our network teams and technicians are working hard to prepare for the rollout of our 4G LTE network later this year,” Smith said. “We’ve been aggressively deploying fiber optic cable, installing enhanced backhaul connections and microwave rings and adding network capacity to hundreds of cell sites in anticipation of the launch.”

Payments do not need to be consecutive to qualify for the next savings milestone.

“Sprint believes it is important to keep evolving our handset portfolio with not only iconic devices but also with quick-messaging phones for customers looking for easy communications,” said David Owens, vice president – Product Development, Sprint. “The availability of LG Rumor Reflex for both Sprint and Boost Mobile customers showcases our consumer choice through our multibrand strategy. Customers appreciate the ability to select a great phone and choose between a contract or no-contract option.”

Eco-friendly Attributes

Earlier this year Sprint announced its environmental scorecard now requires all phones go through the UL Environment certification process, setting an industry-first standard to help improve reparability and drive more sustainable packaging. This device has also received the coveted UL Environment Platinum Certification, the highest level of environmental performance recognized by sustainable requirements established by UL Environment and Sprint.2

“LG is committed to being a leader of change in the mobile industry and is continually working to find new ways to weave recyclable alternatives throughout our product lineup,” said Tim O’Brien, vice president of LG Mobile. “We are proud of our continued collaboration with Sprint to develop budget-friendly and environmentally conscious devices that don’t compromise function or design.”

• The phone’s outer cover is constructed of 31 percent post-consumer recycled materials by weight as defined by UL Environment.

• The battery charger qualifies for the most energy efficient 5-star rating for extremely low power draw while still plugged in after your phone is fully charged.

• The device has eliminated the use of many environmentally sensitive materials, including polyvinyl chloride (PVC), brominated flame retardants (BFR), halogen, beryllium, phthalates and nickel.

• The device is Carbon-Free certified to offset the carbon footprint of the phone’s full lifecycle.

• The Sprint device comes in fully recyclable packaging that is printed with soy inks, contains up to 87 percent post-consumer paper and was engineered with a glueless construction.

• The Boost Mobile device comes in fully recyclable packaging that uses soy inks, and it contains up to 30 percent post-consumer paper. Up to 70 percent of the thermoform plastic contains a combination of post-industrial or post-consumer waste.

Saving the Environment one Buyback at a time

Sprint and Boost Mobile customers alike can save even more money with the Buyback Program, which allows customers to trade in their old Sprint or Boost Mobile eligible device in exchange for an instant phone credit on their next phone purchase or an account credit of up to $300.

Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to buy back competitor phones in store and offer an instant service credit toward the purchase of a customer’s next device at point of sale. Late last year, Compass Intelligence, a decision analytics research and consulting firm, ranked the Sprint Buyback Program as the best in the industry. The goal and benefit of the Buyback programs are to collect old, unwanted wireless phones in an effort to responsibly recycle the 135 million cell phones discarded every year according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

For details and a full list of devices and their trade-in amounts, visit www.sprintbuyback.com or http://buyback.boostmobile.com.

Sprint Enhances 3G Network Coverage in Eastern Michigan

Sprint Enhances 3G Network Coverage in Eastern Michigan OVERLAND PARK, Kan., March 08, 2012 - It’s March in Michigan, which means several things for this sports-loving state: Both the Spartans and the Wolverines are about to begin post-season basketball play; college hockey teams are driving on a “Road to The Joe” and baseball’s opening day is just weeks away. Now Sprint (NYSE: S) customers in eastern Michigan can easily follow their favorite teams thanks in part to Sprint’s recent 3G capacity upgrades.

In the past 90 days, Sprint has implemented 85 network capacity upgrades in eastern Michigan, with 190 scheduled for the next 90 days. Whether it’s Wayne, Oakland, Genesee or Washtenaw counties, Sprint customers in eastern Michigan should expect faster data speeds, fewer dropped calls and confidence that Sprint is committed to investing in Michigan and keeping pace with the ever-increasing demand for data.

So what exactly do these upgrades mean for customers? It means an easier and worry-free wireless experience. Want to catch the latest news on Detroit’s favorite baseball team? Click on the Sprint ID ESPN pack in seconds to find out the latest. Need tickets to the CCHA hockey tournament at Joe Louis Arena? Use your Web browser on your Sprint device to quickly find the best seats.

Over the past year, eastern Michigan has seen its Sprint 3G coverage increase by 14 percent, resulting in an improved wireless experience, including voice, data and in-building solutions. These enhancements to the Sprint 3G network also should serve to bolster performance of the company’s no-contract brands, including devices operating on the Sprint network from Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA.

“Sprint has a strong and solid presence in Michigan,” said Kimberly Green-Kerr, regional vice president, business sales. “Not only do we employ hundreds of people throughout the state, but we’ve taken a leadership position with our connected transportation initiatives. The 3G network enhancements only serve to solidify our substantial investment in Michigan.”

Eastern Michigan is not the only state benefiting from Sprint’s network commitment.

As Sprint adds capacity across the country on the existing network – 28,513 upgrades in 2011 – Network Vision work on 38,000 cell sites is underway. For a detailed look at capacity upgrades in different markets, visit www.sprint.com/network.
