Interop Technologies Enhances CDMA OTA Provisioning Solution, Enabling Network Operators To Manage R-UIM Cards

Interop Technologies Enhances CDMA OTA Provisioning Solution, Enabling Network Operators To Manage R-UIM Cards FORT MYERS, FL-March 22, 2011-Interop Technologies, a provider of core solutions for messaging, device management, and connectivity gateways, has broadened its powerful CDMA OTA provisioning solution to manage Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) cards for CDMA handsets. This new capability enables network operators to access elementary files on R-UIM cards to update Preferred Roaming Lists (PRLs), service programming codes, and text messaging services directly on subscriber handsets.

Elementary files contain security-related procedures and data storage items that permit the basic management of handsets, as well as the delivery of user features and services extending beyond traditional IS-683 provisioning. Examples include the updating of SMS parameters and WAP browser features, as well as supplemental features, such as call forwarding when a number is busy and call forwarding to a new number. Interop's ability to access elementary files to update R-UIM cards has positioned the company to extend its CDMA OTA provisioning solution to wireless operators as they transition to LTE technology. Elementary files are also used to update Universal Integrated Circuit Cards (UICCs), used in devices that operate on LTE networks.

Working closely with the CDMA Development Group (CDG) to help define OMH standards, Interop Technologies has expanded the capabilities of its CDMA OTA provisioning solution to utilize Over-the-Air Service Provisioning (OTASP). OTASP enables subscribers to quickly and easily activate R-UIM cards. In addition, the Interop CDMA OTA solution offers an optional Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system fully integrated into the Over-the-Air Function (OTAF). The IVR saves operators time and resources by automating routine tasks while making support services available around the clock.

With Over-the-Air Parameter Administration (OTAPA), operators can send mass updates to subscriber R-UIM cards or reprogram individual cards, supporting the introduction of new services. The technology enables customer service representatives to perform “one-off” updates, giving engineers time to focus on higher-level technical tasks. Interop's CDMA OTA solution provides full business visibility with real-time, Web-based customer care and reporting from the OTA campaign to the individual customer level. In addition, Interop's CDMA OTA solution enables an operator's network to update and modify A-Key provisioning data, adding an extra measure of security for subscribers.

In addition to OTASP and OTAPA support for R-UIM, the Interop CDMA OTA solution supports ESN, MEID, pESN, and EUMID equipment identification numbers. The solution also offers a configurable SPC algorithm and retry mechanism and provides extremely high activation accuracy and “five nines” (99.999 percent) reliability.

Interop Technologies currently provides its CDMA OTA solution to PT Smartfren (formerly PT Smart Telecom), a leading cellular service provider in Indonesia that utilizes R-UIM card technology. “Interop Technologies has been a key partner to Smartfren by providing us with an advanced OTA solution on our nationwide EV-DO network,” said Richard Tan, Deputy CEO, PT Smartfren. “As a result, we've been able to deliver a differentiated solution in one of the most competitive markets globally, and improve customer satisfaction while reducing our operational costs.” Smartfren is widely recognized as the first wireless operator in the world to launch CDMA 2000 1X-EVDO Rev. B services commercially.

Iridium can provide them reliable, near real-time, low-cost, two-way data services everywhere.”

The complexities and frustrations of managing multiple relationships – and the associated costs – have been a significant barrier for many organizations. With KORE Global Connect, users have completely harmonized services, from data session management to billing and service visibility to technical resolution. This is all delivered to users across the KORE geo-dispersed high-availability network and platform services.

Sprint and Google to Launch Integrated Google Voice Experience on All Sprint Phones, Including Upcoming Nexus S 4G

Sprint and Google to Launch Integrated Google Voice Experience on All Sprint Phones, Including Upcoming Nexus S 4G OVERLAND PARK, Kan., March 21, 2011 - Sprint and Google announced today a new integrated Google Voice™ experience that will allow Sprint customers to set their existing Sprint wireless phone number as their Google Voice number. Sprint customers will be able to take advantage of all the features and benefits of Google Voice without the hassle and fees associated with porting their number. Sprint is the first and only carrier to offer this capability, which will be available soon on all Sprint CDMA phones.

In addition, Nexus S 4G1, announced today by Sprint, Google and Samsung, will allow Sprint customers to enable the integrated Google Voice experience and will come preloaded with the Google Voice Android app.

“As part of our partnership with Google, our customers will appreciate having the easiest set-up experience of any wireless carrier for Google Voice across all of our CDMA phones, using their existing Sprint phone number,” said Kevin McGinnis, vice president-Product and Technology Development, Sprint. “It’s now easier than ever to truly live a mobile lifestyle with the ability to manage multiple devices through intelligent call routing and online controls using just one phone number – your existing Sprint number.”

"With this integration, we have made Google Voice simple to use with a Sprint phone," said Dave Girouard, president at Google. "Sprint subscribers now have access to all the benefits of Google Voice behind their existing mobile number without the need for porting or, if they already have a Google Voice number, they can display that number from their Sprint phone without the need for a separate application."

Manage multiple devices with Google Voice

Google Voice makes it easy for people to manage and access most of their voice-based communication. It lets users manage up to six different devices through one phone number with intelligent call routing and advanced features like call screening, blocking and recording using the phone’s dial pad. Sprint subscribers will be able to use their Sprint number across their office, home and wireless phones, and personalize settings so calls from friends ring their wireless device and home phone, while calls from the boss only ring at the office. Google Voice users can receive transcribed voicemails and read or listen to them online. They can also read, send and search text messages and call logs online at www.google.com/voice.

Sprint is the only carrier that allows the user to assign their existing mobile phone number as their Google Voice number without having to port their number, avoiding porting charges, potential service disruptions and the hassle of calling their carrier to terminate and port their number to Google Voice and then re-subscribe with another number. Sprint’s integration with Google simplifies and shortens the process of moving a phone number to Google Voice to mere minutes.

Integrated Google Voice Experience from Sprint

One number for all your devices: Work, home, mobile; no need to change numbers after a move or new job

Route phone calls and text messages: Send work calls to the office, personal to home or mobile

Conditional call presentation: Hear caller info before answering or send straight to voicemail

In-call options: Record calls, switch phones during a call, conference calling

Manage it all online: Manage call history, texts and voicemail; listen to voicemail and read transcribed messages; view threaded text messaging history and continue the conversation online

Keep your existing wireless phone number without porting: Only with Sprint

Customers can sign up to be notified when the integrated Google Voice experience for Sprint phones is available at www.google.com/voice/sprint.

With a few simple steps, any Sprint CDMA phone will be able to use Google Voice to simplify the customer’s wireless experience:

1. Customers can simply go to www.google.com/voice/sprint and sign-up for the integrated service from Sprint.

2. Google will then confirm the customer would like to use their existing Sprint number as their Google Voice number.

3. Customers do not need to notify Sprint that they plan to use Google Voice. A notification is automatically sent to Sprint to provision the necessary services on the network required for the Google Voice integrated experience.

4. Within minutes, all of the customer’s phone calls, text messages and voicemail run through Google Voice, and all inbound and outbound calls show up with the customer’s existing Sprint number with all of the benefits of Google Voice. For more information on Sprint’s Google Voice integration, watch the video and visit www.sprint.com/googlevoice.2

Use of Google Voice is available at no additional charge with Sprint plans including Sprint’s Everything Data plans. Sprint’s Everything Data plans with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM include unlimited Web, texting and calling to and from any mobile in America while on the Sprint network, starting at just $69.99 per month plus required $10 Premium Data add-on charge for smartphones – a savings of $39.99 per month versus Verizon’s comparable plan with unlimited talk, text and Web (excluding Verizon’s Southern California plan; pricing excludes surcharges and taxes).

Ericsson Makes Industry's First HD Voice Call on CDMA

Ericsson Makes Industry''s First HD Voice Call on CDMA March 17, 2011 - Ericsson has successfully completed a CDMA wideband High Definition (HD) voice call using the Enhanced Variable Rate Codec Narrowband-Wideband (EVRC-NW) codec, demonstrating a technical first for the CDMA industry. CDMA HD voice delivers speech in a wider spectral range of 50Hz to 7000Hz, which increases voice quality, intelligibility and decreases listening fatigue, even in environments with high background noise.

Ericsson leads the industry in introducing new technologies with superior voice quality. Ericsson consumer research shows that voice quality provides a key differentiator between operator networks by improving subscriber retention and increasing mobile usage.

"We have demonstrated the first high-definition CDMA voice call in the world over an Ericsson network utilizing the new EVRC-NW 3GPP2 standard codec and ensuring interoperability with existing functionality while easing the rollout of future wideband services." says Surya Bommakanti, Vice President, Product Area Core, BU CDMA Mobile Systems, Ericsson. "This is the starting point of a voice quality revolution that will significantly enhance CDMA networks as we know them today."

The Ericsson CDMA development team in collaboration with Qualcomm Incorporated has reached this important milestone by successfully completing HD voice calls in a lab environment on a CDMA voice network.

Ericsson is continuously enhancing its CDMA product portfolio to bring superior voice capabilities to market for the benefit of CDMA subscribers and operators.

Sprint Unveils New Gold Standard in Push-to-Talk

Sprint Unveils New Gold Standard in Push-to-Talk OVERLAND PARK, Kan., March 16, 2011 - Sprint today announced plans to expand its gold-standard push-to-talk leadership, unveiling fourth-quarter launch plans for next-generation push-to-talk capabilities powered by Sprint’s broadband CDMA network. As part of the launch, Sprint will offer an initial set of handsets packed with features designed for workgroups that rely on push-to-talk and establish a new push-to-talk brand – Sprint® Direct Connect®.

Sprint Direct Connect service is being built to deliver higher bandwidth capacity to keep up with customers’ demand for data. Sprint also is working to deliver enhanced applications on Sprint Direct Connect, best-ever in-building coverage and is planning to provide triple the square-mile reach of Sprint’s current push-to-talk service.

Sprint Direct Connect will launch with an initial portfolio of rugged devices from Motorola Mobility and Kyocera. The devices will feature most of the capabilities available on current Sprint push-to-talk phones, plus next-generation push-to-talk applications and functionality including high-speed data access, high-resolution cameras and Bluetooth®. The planned portfolio will include an ultra-rugged camera flip phone and an Android™ Smartphone with a touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard. In 2012, Sprint expects to deepen its push-to-talk portfolio, adding more devices with new form factors and features.

The devices are expected to enable group push-to-talk for up to 200 participants, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) interoperability, and availability notification. In early 2012, Sprint Direct Connect is expected to add more capabilities, including international push-to-talk.

Network Vision

Sprint Direct Connect service is a tangible benefit of Network Vision, Sprint’s blueprint to deploy a cost-effective and innovative network. Announced in December, Network Vision is expected to consolidate multiple network technologies into one seamless network resulting in enhanced coverage, quality and speed; better network flexibility; reduced operating costs; and improved environmental sustainability. The plan includes a complete upgrade of Sprint’s current wireless networks accompanied by changes in device chipsets and network infrastructure.

The benefits of Network Vision to Sprint’s PTT customers will be wide-ranging:

Better coverage and capacity • Push-to-talk coverage footprint is planned to increase to nearly 2.7 million square miles and is expected to cover a population of 309 million (with the addition of 1xrtt and roaming coverage) – an increase from the iDEN network’s 908,370 square miles covering a population 278 million.

• In-building coverage is expected to improve significantly through investment in the most advanced CDMA technology and radio equipment.

• Voice and data capacity is expected to increase significantly as Sprint will be able to fully leverage its industry leading spectrum holdings in 800 MHz, 1.9 GHz, and – through its partnership with Clearwire – 2.5 GHz. With Sprint Direct Connect, Sprint expects:

• More push-to-talk enabled devices including handsets, rugged devices, and PDAs that combine industry leading push-to-talk and mobile broadband data services over a larger coverage area. • Enhanced features for push-to-talk users on the new CDMA platform.

• Interoperability with all existing Sprint push-to-talk devices.

During the nationwide implementation of Network Vision, Sprint expects to continue operating the iDEN network at current best-ever performance levels. As the customer base shifts to more broadband-centric push-to-talk applications on the CDMA network and Sprint launches Sprint Direct Connect, iDEN cell sites are expected to be phased out in 2013.

“Our customers are asking for broadband push-to-talk now,” said Paget Alves, president-Sprint Business. “We’ve seen steadily increasing demand for faster data speeds, better and broader coverage, and more applications on push-to-talk devices. Sprint Direct Connect is designed to solve for all three, and is expected to come with sub-second push-to-talk call set-up time initially in Sprint CDMA RevA coverage areas. Sub-second call set up is expected to expand across the U.S. with the implementation of Network Vision.”

Alves added, “We believe the new push-to-talk service powered by a broadband network and featuring competitively priced rugged handsets and smart phones will represent an unmatched offering in the market.”

Sprint plans to identify customers who require custom push-to-talk solutions and assist with their migration to the CDMA network. The company also plans to engage partners in developing a robust portfolio of push-to-talk accessories and involve developers in the creation of new applications through its Sprint Gets Rugged application developers program. The program will provide information, support and tools needed to port developers’ applications to Sprint Direct Connect devices. More information on the Sprint Gets Rugged application developers program can be found at http://developer.sprint.com/SprintGetsRugged. Sprint will hold a conference on March 22 at the International CTIA WIRELESS® meeting in Orlando for developers who are interested.

Aircell Announces Technology Roadmap

Aircell Announces Technology Roadmap ITASCA, Ill., March 9, 2011 – Aircell, the world's leading provider of inflight connectivity, today unveiled an expanded technology roadmap for the delivery of its revolutionary and widely deployed Gogo® Inflight Internet service. In addition to Aircell’s existing and highly successful Air-to-Ground (ATG) technology, the company will enable connectivity via a next generation version of ATG (“ATG-4”) as well as Ka-band satellite technology. These technology options will be selectable at the aircraft or fleet level and enable attractive solutions for every airline, aircraft and mission.

“Between business and commercial aviation, there are currently more than 6,000 Aircell-equipped aircraft across ATG and satellite technology platforms,” said Michael Small, President and CEO of Aircell. “We’re thrilled to be the only inflight connectivity provider that can meet our partners’ full fleet needs in the United States today. With this announcement we strengthen our offerings domestically and begin to extend our leadership globally.”

The suite of technologies powering Gogo® Inflight Internet will consist of the following:

• Air-to-Ground (ATG): With a proven track record of performance, reliability and scalability, Aircell’s ATG-based service will continue to provide a rich user experience for connected travelers by featuring 3G wireless utilizing EV-DO Rev. A.

• ATG-4: Aircell’s ATG-4 service will significantly enhance the existing ATG network and improve per aircraft capacity by approximately four times current performance through the addition of Directional Antenna, Dual Modem and EV-DO Rev. B technologies. ATG-4 is scheduled for commercial delivery beginning in the first half of 2012. This new platform is backwards compatible and allows for upgrades to existing ATG systems through low cost retrofits.

• Ka-band satellite: Aircell’s Ka-band satellite technology will provide additional capacity to supplement what is available through ATG, ATG-4 and current generation satellite technology, as well as enable Gogo service beyond the continental United States (CONUS). Based on satellite launch and antenna development schedules, Aircell expects its Ka-band technology to be available for CONUS in 2013 and globally by 2015. Aircell expects many aircraft to take advantage of its unique and proprietary ability to integrate air-to-ground solutions with satellite solutions for better performance, enhanced features and higher reliability.

By offering multiple technology platforms, Aircell is the only provider able to meet the needs of any aircraft and its mission. ATG’s combination of low cost, small equipment footprint and high performance will continue to delight travelers in the future. At the same time, many larger aircraft with higher capacity needs will benefit from the improvements enabled by ATG-4, again at a low cost and with a smaller equipment footprint as compared to satellite solutions. Aircraft with missions beyond CONUS will benefit from the geographic flexibility a satellite solution provides. In advance of the global availability of Ka-based satellite service, Aircell can provide a Ku-based satellite solution for the international needs of its airline partners.

For commercial airlines, Aircell’s technology roadmap will allow airlines to select the technology that best suits particular aircraft at a particular time, and to easily upgrade from one Aircell platform to another. In addition, all Aircell network technologies will utilize its enormous advantage in proprietary “know how” (including over 30 US and international patents for its inflight connectivity solutions), and will leverage its world-class systems for technical monitoring and support, customer care and billing.

In the business aviation market, Aircell currently offers three different inflight technologies, including Iridium Satellite, Inmarsat SwiftBroadband (satellite) and Gogo Biz™ (ATG). Specific details about ATG-4 and Ka-band Satellite technologies for the business aviation market will be released in the coming months.

Sprint Partners with WhitePages to Launch First Online Directory for Wireless Business Listings

Sprint Partners with WhitePages to Launch First Online Directory for Wireless Business Listings OVERLAND PARK, Kan. & SEATTLE, March 07, 2011 - As more businesses “cut the cord” from their local phone providers and operate in the increasingly popular “mobile only” mode, Sprint and WhitePages (www.whitepages.com) today announced the first directory for businesses to list their wireless phone numbers online. Sprint is the only telecommunications provider to offer the service. WhitePages is a top 50 website with more than 20 million unique visitors per month.

“Until now, businesses of all types – especially small ones – were limited to listing only local (landline) phone numbers in thick phone directories that printed annually. What businesses want is a place to list, customize and regularly update their business information – including wireless numbers. The old directories aren’t an option in today’s business environment, especially for small businesses that use only wireless phones,” said Judy Train, Sprint vice president – Small Business and Alternate Channels.

Sprint business customers can customize online wireless business listings with featured search engine results placements, photos, videos and detailed business information.

This opt-in-only service gives Sprint wireless business customers total control over listings and guarantees that nothing will be published without their permission.

Setting up a wireless listing is a simple process. Sprint wireless business customers simply need to go to sprint.whitepages.com to create an account and then use their wireless device to complete the setup. Each new listing will be reviewed directly by WhitePages and will earn a WhitePages Verified Listings badge that assures potential customers that the information presented is accurate and up to date.

According to Jason Milstead, director of Business Search at WhitePages, “The ability to list wireless numbers has long been requested by small business owners – from florists to limo drivers – and many others who solely use a mobile phone. Sprint business customers can now safely publicize their wireless contact information on one of the Web’s most trusted and visited sites, providing the perfect solution for business owners as they look to attract and retain customers.”

Pricing and Availability:

The service, available only to Sprint wireless business customers, is available in three core offerings:
