Vodafone Offers High-speed Mobile Internet to Eighty Percent of the Czech Ppopulation

Vodafone Offers High-speed Mobile Internet to Eighty Percent of the Czech Ppopulation Prague, September 29, 2010 Vodafone, thanks to an agreement with MobilKom, significantly expands its high-speed mobile Internet. From today, its customers will be able to benefit not only from its expanding 3G network coverage, but also from MobilKom's data network based on CDMA technology. Vodafone also offers customers a special price combo modem to connect to a laptop computer that automatically, in areas covered by 3G signal connects to 3G and in other areas, it seeks a CDMA network. 80% of the population can thus benefit from Vodafone's data with a realistic speed of 300 Kbps to 2000 Kbps.

"Our current priority is to offer our customers the fastest mobile Internet possible, and to that end, we are now also using the CDMA network from MobilKom. At the same time, however, we are continuing the intensive construction of 3G networks and, by the end of 2010, we want this technology to cover 60 towns, including all the regional capitals," says Vice-President for Strategy and Planning at Vodafone, Colin Shea.

"We are pleased that Vodafone was the first of the big companies to take advantage of our wholesale offer, which shares the official infrastructure for MobilKom and allows them to offer mobile Internet to customers under their own brand name. Similar cooperation between two operators in the Czech Republic is quite unique, while bringing considerable benefits to customers," says Tomáš Budník, CEO of MobilKom.

Priced from only CZK 77, Vodafone customers can now buy a special Vodafone Mobile Connect modem combo, which supports EDGE, CDMA and 3G and therefore finds the fastest available mobile connection in the area and automatically connects to it. With CDMA technology, customers don't pay anything extra, they will be able to use the 'Steady Connect' tariff for the same price as before, i.e. CZK 525 per 3 gigabytes FUP or for CZK 472.50 with the 'My Way' service.

Vodafone’s current mobile Internet coverage in the Czech Republic:

• 3G - more than 30% of the population, by the end of 2010, sixty cities, including regional capitals

• CDMA – 75% population coverage by the U:fon mobile network

• EDGE – 95% of the Czech population

CDMA Spectral Efficiencies for Data Explosion

CDMA Spectral Efficiencies for Data Explosion September 23, 2010 - Ericsson has successfully completed a 1x Advanced call, demonstrating a technical first in the CDMA industry. 1x Advanced is an evolution of CDMA 2000 wireless technology specified by the international standardization body, 3GPP2. Ericsson is now actively demonstrating 1x Advanced call capabilities to customers.

This technology breakthrough meets the market demand for data services and paves the way for the adoption of LTE. 1x Advanced is the next major CDMA standard providing the latest quantum leap in CDMA capacity and network efficiency. With 1x Advanced, voice capacity is increased by 100-200% (which is 2-3 times greater), freeing up scarce spectrum resources for operators to deploy new and additional mobile data services. Having more spectrum available for data services will enable operators to increase their revenue potential by increasing their deployment and offering of bandwidth hungry data applications.

The Ericsson CDMA development team reached an important milestone in the development of 1x Advanced by successfully completing a 1x Advanced call. The 1x Advanced call utilized new Radio Configuration 11 (RC11) in a lab environment. Ericsson continues the development of its CDMA product portfolio and brings 1x Advanced capabilities to market for the benefit of our customers.

Bug Labs To Provide New Wireless Product Innovation Platform For Connected Devices

Bug Labs To Provide New Wireless Product Innovation Platform For Connected Devices BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and NEW YORK, NY — September 22, 2010 — Verizon Wireless and Bug Labs announced today a strategic relationship that will enable product designers, software engineers and others to build, program and deploy innovative new wireless devices to be used on the Verizon Wireless network. Devices that use Verizon Wireless approved Bug Labs’ modules and that connect to the Verizon Wireless network via pre-approved Verizon Wireless Broadband Access cards or removable modems do not need to be submitted for any testing by Verizon Wireless before they may be activated on the Verizon Wireless network.

The BUG platform is a collection of discrete hardware modules, Verizon Wireless network-ready 3G modems, and associated software that can be easily combined and re-combined to create new, custom wireless devices. This device can then be used as the basis for more integrated and cost-efficient, high-volume production versions to help reduce the time and costs of getting to market. The BUG platform is constantly evolving to include new hardware modules to increase the flexibility of the platform.

“Verizon Wireless has a demonstrated commitment to innovation, and we’re excited to combine our open product development platform with the nation’s best wireless broadband network,” said Peter Semmelhack, founder and chief executive officer of Bug Labs. “With the BUG platform, developers can explore whole new categories of wireless devices and bring them to market quickly and cost effectively by accelerating development, deployment, production and certification.”

“The BUG platform is a natural addition to our open development program, and it’s an innovative option for developers. Verizon Wireless continues to open its network to support a vibrant ecosystem of both software and hardware developers, and we’re delighted to be working with Bug Labs to help us achieve that mission,” said Aparna Khurjekar, executive director of business solutions for Verizon Wireless.

PC World’s test involved Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in 13 major cities in all regions of the country during December 2009 and January 2010. In all, roughly 9,000 individual tests of Sprint's 3G service were conducted from 280 testing locations. Sprint and Calgary Scientific Introduce First of Its Kind Mobile Medical Imaging Solution to Healthcare Providers

Sprint and Calgary Scientific Introduce First of Its Kind Mobile Medical Imaging Solution to Healthcare Providers OVERLAND PARK, Kan., September 15, 2010 - Sprint and Calgary Scientific have partnered to market a first of its kind medical imaging solution that could contribute to better patient outcomes, faster treatment decisions and a reduced financial burden on long-term patient care.

Calgary Scientific, a leading innovator in advanced visualization solutions and web-enabling platforms, and Sprint, will offer ResolutionMD™ Mobile, powered by PureWeb®, to provide physicians with advanced visualization of medical images directly on their HTC EVO™ 4G. ResolutionMD Mobile is HIPPA compliant and Calgary Scientific is seeking FDA approval for diagnostics in the hand-held device category.

In acute scenarios, ResolutionMD Mobile powered by PureWeb could speed access to patient information and medical images, potentially cutting healthcare administrative costs and improving the odds of saving lives. For example, in the United States, stroke is the number three leading cause of death and the number one discharge diagnosis to chronic care facilities, costing over $70 billion each year. One of the greatest challenges facing acute stroke care is access to neurological expertise, particularly in remote and rural settings. Without access to a neurologist, the vast majority of patients that would benefit from direct access to this expertise go untreated. With ResolutionMD Mobile provided on HTC EVO 4G, attending or acute care physicians can have real-time access to specialists such as neurologists, regardless of where the physicians and patients are located.

Sprint converged its wireline IP network and 3G and 4G wireless networks to create a single, secure platform for the breakthrough imaging solution. According to Tim Donahue, Sprint vice president-Industry Solutions, ResolutionMD Mobile and the PureWeb platform harness the power of the Sprint networks to provide state-of-the-art healthcare.

“As our nation’s population ages, and the number of people with acute care requirements and chronic illnesses continue to grow, mobile technologies can enable caregivers to treat patients remotely and in a more cost-effective manner,” said Donahue. “Our strategy is to provide a holistic communications environment that enables caregivers to access the information they need within the hospital or anywhere in the country covered by the Sprint 3G or 4G networks or Wi-Fi.”

In addition to providing instant access to patient images, ResolutionMD Mobile will also provide reports and high-quality video for clinical consultations so physicians can provide patients with bedside care from remote locations.

Providing physicians with remote access to medical records has traditionally been fraught with significant obstacles. One of the largest concerns is that data stored on laptops or hand-held devices could be easily copied, putting security and patient confidentiality at risk. PureWeb, the underlying technology, uses advanced architecture that doesn't require image data or confidential patient information to be transferred to the hand-held device. Patient or DICOM data is never removed from the on-site premises; it remains “in the cloud.” If an HTC EVO 4G or hand-held device is lost or stolen, the patient records and data remain safe.

“The mobile revolution we are seeing in healthcare is rivaled by few changes of this magnitude,” said Randy Rountree, EVP of Sales and Marketing, Calgary Scientific. “The change from film to digital imaging is one that comes to mind. The quality of the new devices such as the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic™ 4G both with 3G and 4G capabilities, coupled with the desire of Sprint to work with developers like Calgary Scientific, to continually improve the performance of advanced software applications using huge, security-sensitive data sets, over these amazing networks is impressive and long overdue. These types of partnerships could propel the utilization of mobile devices in medical specialties, delivering critical information to physicians all over the world, in real time, without over burdening communications networks and increasing storage requirements to unreasonable levels.”

The world’s first 3G/4G Android™ handset, exclusively from Sprint, HTC EVO 4G, built on the Android platform, includes a blazing-fast 1GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor, the award-winning HTC Sense™ user experience, an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. HTC EVO supports industry-leading features including simultaneous voice and data while in 4G coverage and a large, vibrant 4.3 inch display, built-in kickstand, 3.5 mm headset jack and HDMI output make HTC EVO 4G an unparalleled platform for wireless multimedia.

The companies are in the process of certifying ResolutionMD Mobile on the Samsung Epic 4G, Sprint’s second 4G-capable handset. Epic 4G is a Galaxy S smartphone and Samsung Mobile’s first 4G Android-powered device. It is part of a new breed of Samsung smartphones offering the very best in screen, speed and content quality on Samsung’s industry-leading 4 inch Super AMOLED touch-screen display. Samsung Epic 4G’s user interface also supports a series of advanced touch-screen gestures and provides HD-like video in the palm of your hand; accessory cable available separately.

Sprint's 4G network has been serving customers since 2008 and is available today to customers in more than 50 markets in cities like Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and Seattle.

Second 3G/4G Phone, Samsung Epic 4G, Launches with One of the Best First-Day Sales for Any Sprint Device

Second 3G/4G Phone, Samsung Epic 4G, Launches with One of the Best First-Day Sales for Any Sprint Device OVERLAND PARK, Kan., September 03, 2010 - Sprint retail stores celebrated the arrival of America’s second 3G/4G phone Tuesday by opening their doors early to accommodate anxious customers interested in getting their hands on the acclaimed Samsung Epic™ 4G, the only Galaxy S™ smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard and front-facing camera along with a brilliant Super AMOLED touch-screen. Samsung Epic 4G didn’t disappoint as it became one of Sprint’s best-selling devices for first-day sales.

Tuesday marked another historic milestone as Sprint continues to lead the 4G revolution. In addition to two award-winning Android™ phones, Sprint offers Overdrive™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, enabling 4G connectivity for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices, as well as five Sprint mobile broadband devices that can access Sprint 4G data speeds.

“We’re very excited by the customer response to Samsung Epic 4G and the capabilities of our 4G network,” said Fared Adib, vice president of product development for Sprint. “With its beautiful Super AMOLED touch-screen, full QWERTY keyboard and two cameras, Samsung Epic 4G is a terrific smartphone that delivers the promise of the Sprint 4G network. As we continue to build out our 4G network, more and more of our customers will realize the benefits of these amazing devices and the realities of life at these blazing-fast speeds.”

Samsung Epic 4G is available in all Sprint retail channels, including Sprint.com, Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) and national retail partners, RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart. It costs $249.99 (taxes excluded) with a new line or eligible upgrade after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new service agreement on select plan with Premium Data add-on. Customers can use the Reserve Now process if their local company-owned retail store temporarily runs out of inventory. Reserve Now allows them to purchase a $50 gift card to hold a Samsung Epic 4G when the smartphones arrive back in stock.

Samsung Epic 4G works on Sprint’s 3G and 4G networks. This flexibility allows customers to enjoy 4G performance in any Sprint 4G market or to use Sprint’s reliable 3G mobile broadband network when outside a 4G area. Sprint 4G is already available in 51 markets and continues to expand to new cities, bringing wireless speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G1.

Customers also praised Samsung Epic 4G:

• “I've been an Android user since the very beginning and I'm switching to Sprint because I want 4G. I can't wait to have a phone with a flash for one thing, definitely the Hummingbird processor, the super AMOLED screen, 4G.” – Mike Huntington

• “The main thing is just that full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It's going to give me a bigger keyboard, and it's going to give me faster processing speeds.” – Jason Von Moss

• “I just heard a lot about the Google Android system and the operating system so I'm excited to try something new. I think the integration with social networking sites, e-mail, just the transition taking video, pictures and post them directly to your networking sites is probably the biggest feature I'm looking forward to using.” – Sean Powell

• “I really like the slide-out keyboard, the fact that it seems to be a really fast, bright LED screen.” – Keith Gray

Accolades Continue to Roll In

Samsung Epic 4G received Editor’s Choice awards from Laptop and PCMag. Respected technology and telecommunications media and analysts lauded Samsung Epic 4G:

• Epic 4G's 4-inch Super AMOLED display absolutely mesmerized us. – CNET

• Like the EVO 4G before it, the Epic 4G sort of blows everything out of the water on paper: 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording paired with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1GHz Hummingbird core. – Engadget

• Overall it's Samsung's best Galaxy S series phone and yet another compelling reason to switch to Sprint. – Laptop

• The one stand-out feature that the Epic will offer you that the Vibrant, Fascinate or Captivate won’t is the front-facing camera that will allow videoconferencing. – IntoMobile
