NextMail(R) Now Available on All Sprint Devices

NextMail(R) Now Available on All Sprint Devices OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jul 26, 2010 -- To further enable fast and easy communications for mobile workers, Sprint today announced the expanded availability of NextMail(R), powered by Pacific DataVision, to all Sprint devices, including the new HTC EVOTM 4G.

NextMail allows mobile professionals to instantaneously send a recorded voice message to up to 50 e-mail addresses, or also send the voice message via text message to up to 50 mobile devices and receive a "Listen to" notification. The message can easily be sent with the push of a button (Direct Connect on a Nextel device, or Send on any Sprint or Nextel device). It is a quick and simple way to record, document and share information from the field to office colleagues - no more need for handwritten notes or thumb-typing on small keypads.

In addition, NextMail Professional (previously known as NextMail Locator) enhances the standard service by offering users the ability to include location information and pictures with a NextMail message. For example, first responders, inspectors and others can use this tool to document, validate and share the details involved in an incident, including its GPS location and interactive map, photos and provide their command centers with real-time situational awareness.

NextMail is available for $7.50 per month per user and NextMail Professional is $19.99 per month per user. "In today's business climate, companies need solutions that improve productivity, increase profitability and enhance customer satisfaction," said Tom Roberts, vice president of Business Marketing, Sprint. "Historically available only on Nextel devices as an extension of Nextel Direct Connect, NextMail is an ideal solution for companies with highly mobile workers. Industries like construction, field services, distribution and many public sector entities will find NextMail to be a critical business tool to communicate with many people instantly, especially in places where typing isn't convenient, and to document thorough and accurate information."

NextMail Delivers Power to Users' Fingertips

NextMail's collaborative messaging features enable recipients to easily respond by voice to a voice, text or e-mail message, thereby allowing fast, seamless and unobtrusive two-way communication. When used as a workforce solution, the technology provides a way to significantly improve the lines of communications between large teams, including field representatives. Other powerful field force functionality includes mobile time and attendance reporting, appointment scheduling, customized mobile forms, job ticket and customer information management, and an advanced communications console, all improving the productivity and efficiency of the mobile worker.

"NextMail's Intelligent Queuing provides businesses a valuable triage tool for their field workers, finally allowing dispatchers and call center operators to quickly prioritize inbound voice communication from the field," said John Pescatore, CEO of Pacific DataVision Inc. "This allows for a significant reduction in unproductive hold time, which results in increased productivity and revenue."

Spirent Verifies LTE to CDMA Handover to Ensure Seamless Service Experience on New Generation of Mobile Networks

Spirent Verifies LTE to CDMA Handover to Ensure Seamless Service Experience on New Generation of Mobile Networks Sunnyvale, Calif. - (July 20, 2010) — Spirent Communications, a global leader in wireless networks, devices and services testing, today announced testing capability that enables companies in the LTE ecosystem to verify LTE to CDMA handover of mobile device signals using lab-based test equipment. A live demonstration, using Spirent’s eAirAccess wireless network emulator, to an audience of network operator and device manufacturer representatives highlighted how Spirent ensures that subscribers experience seamless service even when transitioning across different types of wireless networks.

“Some early LTE network deployments will use multi-mode devices that support LTE, CDMA, and EV-DO,” said Will Stofega, program director, Mobile Device Technology and Trends, IDC. “Testing handover between two radio access technologies is critical to ensuring transitions between those technologies will occur without the subscriber experiencing any glitches.”

An LTE-to-CDMA handover, known as Inter-Radio Access Technology (I-RAT) handover, occurs when a mobile device equipped to use both technologies moves away from an LTE service area during a call or application session. Early LTE deployments will need to coexist with legacy networks such as CDMA/EV-DO or UMTS/HSPA for many years and users will expect seamless mobility across technologies and networks.

“LTE is not a natural evolution from CDMA/EV-DO,” said Hesham ElHamahmy, vice-president at Spirent’s wireless division. “It evolved from WCDMA and HSPA technology and deploying a CDMA/LTE network requires the use of evolved High Rate Packet Data, a ‘helper’ technology which acts as both a translator and ‘traffic cop’ between technologies. This technology evolution lends itself to a significant amount of complexity, something that Spirent is particularly well-positioned to address with our cutting-edge testing solution.”

This I-RAT handover testing functionality has been added to Spirent’s 8100 family of automated device testing solutions. The 8100’s eAirAccess network emulator features powerful enhanced packet core (EPC) emulation for simultaneous support of multi-technology (LTE, CDMA/EV-DO, UMTS), multi-cell networks. This enables the broadest possible test coverage of LTE multi-mode device performance, including RF/MIMO, location-based services, data throughput and more.

For more information on LTE device testing and I-RAT handover testing visit http://www.spirent.com/Wireless/LTE_Testing.aspx.

More Satisfied Than Ever

Offering affordable plans to such feature-rich smartphones like Samsung Intercept is one of many reasons Sprint has excelled in customer satisfaction. Sprint is the most improved company in customer satisfaction, across all industries, over the last two years, according to results from the 2010 American Customer Satisfaction Index.

Sprint's improvement was driven in part by substantial gains in two aspects of the survey. In the area of customers' perceptions of value, Sprint now leads both AT&T and Verizon. The company also achieved an impressive improvement in the area of customer loyalty. With these gains, the company's overall ACSI score jumped 14 points during the last two years. In the last six years of the ACSI survey, no other company has improved its satisfaction score by that many points in a two-year period.

The improvements in the ACSI survey come as Sprint has seen nine consecutive quarters of improved customer satisfaction and first call resolution. The company's improvements have also been recognized by other independent third-parties, including Sprint winning the #1 spot for both overall satisfaction for wireless voice service providers and wireless data service providers in a Yankee Group and Mobile Enterprise magazine survey of large business decision makers. Sprint also ranked high in small and medium business customer satisfaction. Also noteworthy was Sprint's two-year Reputation Pulse(TM) score increase in Reputation Institute's 2010 U.S. Most Reputable Companies Study (published annually in Forbes). Sprint's 18.22 percent gain puts its improvement in the top 10 percent of the 150 largest U.S. companies, ahead of both AT&T and Verizon.

Sprint is also the first national wireless carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology, offering wireless 4G service today for select devices in 36 markets. In 2010, Sprint expects to launch 4G service in multiple markets, including Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Verizon Wireless Announces Open Catalog Program For Brew Developers

Verizon Wireless Announces Open Catalog Program For Brew Developers BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and SAN DIEGO, CA — July 1, 2010 — From the Uplinq 2010 Conference in San Diego, Verizon Wireless and Qualcomm Incorporated said today that Verizon Wireless will be the first to launch an Open Catalog program for Brew®, giving developers enhanced opportunities to bring more applications to millions of Verizon Wireless customers.

Verizon Wireless worked together with Qualcomm on Open Catalog, which will help reduce developers’ time to market while allowing them to market their applications directly to consumers. Verizon Wireless’ Open Catalog will also create a more streamlined process where applications that meet certain guidelines will flow through the process and reach consumers more quickly.

“The world of applications is growing, and our goal is to help developers get their applications and other content to our customers as fast and as easily as possible, so everyone benefits,” said Ryan Hughes, vice president of business development and partner management at Verizon Wireless. “Opening our catalog for Brew applications allows us to engage with many new developers and to address their needs to grow and expand their offers.”

Open Catalog will be available for Verizon Wireless’ wide variety of 3G Multimedia handsets and other Simple Feature phones that support the Brew platforms. There will be no device minimums, so developers only need to support those devices that make sense for their businesses, and other costs for validation, testing and authentication will be lower when associated with the Open Catalog.

“More than ever, Qualcomm is committed to fostering a strong and healthy ecosystem of mobile content, and we are able to facilitate this ecosystem by cultivating the mutually beneficial relationships between an operator and its developers at low operational costs with Open Catalog, which we feel is critical to creating the best possible end-user experiences,” said Mitch Oliver, vice president of ecosystem development for Qualcomm. “Given our long history of success with Verizon Wireless, we are very pleased that they are creating this new opportunity for Brew developers with their Open Catalog program.”

With Open Catalog, developers will gain more control of their content distribution and can still drive downloads through direct-to-consumer promotional campaigns such as SMS short codes. In addition, their content, regardless of whether it is free or paid, will be discoverable through search and on-deck browsing.

For more information about the Verizon Developer Community and the Open Catalog program, visit http://developer.verizon.com. For more information about Verizon Wireless, visit www.verizonwireless.com.
