Twelve Days of Christmas? Who Needs 12 Days? Get Things Done Now on the Sprint Now Network

Twelve Days of Christmas? Who Needs 12 Days? Get Things Done Now on the Sprint Now Network OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Dec 15, 2009 -- The song keeps playing on the radio, on and on about those 12 days: "Nine ladies dancing, eight maids-a-milking... five golden rings" - all those people, all those cows, and the price of gold these days! Who can keep it all organized, who can clean up the mess, and how can anyone keep costs down - not to mention keeping it up for 12 days?

Sprint's gift to you: The Now Network, the nation's most dependable 3G network,1 which allows you to buy your gifts, gather your family, bake the cookies, see the sights, find the lights, stop the fights and handle everything else associated with the joy of the holidays now - not over 12 days - and from the palm of your hand.

The Now NetworkTM is the culmination of our ultra-fast networks, cutting-edge devices, game-changing price plans and a portfolio of products and capabilities that enable customers to do what they want, simply and immediately. With Sprint, customers can truly celebrate the simplicity and instant gratification of now.

Here are just 12 ways Sprint can help you find joy in every moment of the holidays, not tomorrow, not over 12 days, but having the best experience right now: ONE call to the bakery means you don't have to spend 90 minutes making cookies that your mother says your sister makes better anyway. A Google search will get you the number.

TWO GPS searches will get you to both holiday parties in one night, taking the shortcut across town. Lay your handset on the console and Sprint Navigation will talk you to your next stop where you'll be relaxed and ready to have fun.

THREE kids and three text messages tell you that none of them is going to be home when Grandma first arrives, but you'll have some quiet time, and texting is unlimited on many Sprint phone plans.

FOUR hours was how long it seemed to take last year to open that annoying hard plastic packaging, but the Sprint Samsung Reclaim eco-friendly handset comes in easy-to-open environmentally responsible packaging, and our accessories soon will, too. Sprint was ranked No. 15 among large companies in Newsweek's green rankings, and the highest ranked telecom company overall.2

FIVE golden rings. OK, you're not buying those this year, but how about some cool ring tones from the Sprint Digital Lounge at Sprint.com, or app stores like Android(TM) Market and Palm App Catalog?

SIX, what was it, geese? Instead of that bird, how about some Falcons, Cardinals or Seahawks? You can make sure you don't miss any of the action while you're out shopping, at holiday parties or putting up the tree by using NFL Mobile Live only from Sprint. Sprint devices are intuitive and easy to use - and we'll show you how to make the most of your device through our stores' Ready Now programs.

SEVEN - that's how many video games the spouse wants. One click on the Barcode application on one of Sprint Android phones - HTC Hero(TM) with Google(TM) or Samsung Moment(TM) with Google(TM) - gives you the best price available on each in an instant, and the ability to order them now for delivery. Android Market has more than 10,000 easy-to-download applications that can make your holidays stress free: keep track of your to-do list, manage your grocery shopping needs, and check Craigslist for your holiday gifts.

EIGHT lights are out on the string this year. How did that happen? Banish the darkness with the glow from the clear, bright AMOLED screen on the Samsung Moment and find replacements in the bottom of the box in a snap. Sprint has the industry's strongest handset lineup this season, with a choice of features and operating systems for anything you or you family need to do now.

NINE holiday songs, downloaded from the Sprint Music Store to your Samsung Rant TM or other Sprint feature phone, will ensure you and your family are in the holiday spirit. Downloads are just $0.99 per song with a data-included plan or add-on,3 and Sprint makes it easy and convenient. With the Palm(R) Pre(TM), you can buy songs from the Amazon MP3 store and listen using the built-in music player.

UP TO 10 times faster than 3G on download speeds4 - that's what Sprint 4G mobile broadband means to you. With Sprint 4G you can download a favorite video game, picture, holiday TV special or large video in seconds, not minutes, or watch live streaming video on your laptop - all while on the go, not just from the home or office. Today, Sprint offers 4G in 27 markets and expects to offer coverage in 80 markets by the end of 2010.

Eleven co-workers, and you can wish them all Happy Holidays at the same time in one push-to-talk action with Nextel Group Connect(R), one of the many group services and other features that allow you to communicate instantly on Nextel Direct Connect handsets on the fastest national push-to-talk network.5

Twelve...well, actually, 24 hours a day, every day: That's how long Sprint is working to make sure the Now Network is performing at its best-ever levels. Indeed, Sprint tested as the most reliable 3G network in comparison to AT&T and Verizon in a 13-city 3G performance test conducted by PC World.6

Twelve ways the Sprint Now Network can make your life easier and more joyful - during the holidays and all year long. And, with calling plans like Sprint Everything Data with Any Mobile, Anytime, you can do it affordably. Happy Holidays from Sprint!

Verizon Wi-Fi Gives Mobile Broadband Customers More Ways To Connect To The Internet

Verizon Wi-Fi Gives Mobile Broadband Customers More Ways To Connect To The Internet BASKING RIDGE, NJ — December 15, 2009 — With more and more people and businesses wanting and needing to stay connected, and more and more laptops being sold every day, Verizon Wireless today gave its customers another choice to do just that. Verizon Wireless introduced Verizon Wi-Fi, a way for Mobile Broadband customers to access thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots at no additional charge and to move easily from the nation’s most reliable 3G wireless network to those hotspots.

Verizon Wi-Fi is available in locations across the United States, including airports, bookstores, coffee shops, hotels and other public locations. The service is also available at locations in Canada and Mexico, so customers can reduce data roaming charges in those countries when connected to a Verizon Wi-Fi hotspot. Customers can search for local hotspots – either by address or type of location such as a hotel or café – at www.verizonwireless.com/wi-fi. Search results will provide the location’s address, a map and driving directions.

When within range of a Verizon Wi-Fi hotspot, customers can use VZAccess Manager to connect with a Wi-Fi-enabled notebook or netbook computer. When they are ready to move, but want to remain connected, or if they want the added security of the Verizon Wireless network, customers can simply switch back to Verizon Wireless’ 3G wireless network, which is the largest and most reliable in the country. These choices can help them manage their monthly data allowance by potentially preventing overage charges and saving the allowance for when mobility is needed.

Verizon Wi-Fi allows customers to access the Internet, making it easy to browse the Web, stay on top of social networks, or complete business tasks whenever they need to be done. To take advantage of Verizon Wi-Fi, customers must have a monthly Mobile Broadband or GlobalAccess plan. They must also have a Verizon Wi-Fi supported device, including a Mobile Broadband USB modem, PC Card, ExpressCard®, Verizon Wireless MiFi™ 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, or a notebook or netbook with Mobile Broadband Built-In running Windows® 7, 2000, XP or Vista. A full list of Verizon Wi-Fi supported devices can be found at www.vzam.net.

To use Verizon Wi-Fi, customers must also have VZAccess Manager version 7.2 or higher installed on their PCs. To upgrade to VZAccess Manager 7.2, visit www.vzam.net or select “Check for Upgrades” from the Help menu of VZAccess Manager.

Cox Communications Announces Hampton Roads, Omaha and Orange County as First Wireless Markets

Cox Communications Announces Hampton Roads, Omaha and Orange County as First Wireless Markets ATLANTA –December 8, 2009 – Cox Communications, Inc. announced today that it is first introducing its new wireless phone and mobile high speed Internet services in Hampton Roads, Va., Omaha, Neb.; and Orange County, Calif. Today’s announcement continues the company’s long history of introducing competitive telecommunications services to the marketplace. Cox was the first cable company to begin offering traditional landline telephone services in 1997 and Cox customers were among the first in the nation to enjoy a competitive choice among providers. Today, Cox is the number one phone company in many markets it serves. In September, Cox received highest honors in J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Residential Telephone Customer Satisfaction StudySM in the East and West, marking the seventh consecutive honor in the West.

Cox is now also the first U.S. cable company to launch fully-integrated wireless phone and mobile high speed Internet services. To celebrate Cox’s landmark entry to the wireless business, Cox is donating brand new computer technology centers, valued at $25,000 each to a local Boys & Girls Club in Hampton Roads, Omaha and Orange County. The local Centers will include new computers, access to Cox High-Speed Internet and education about the safe and responsible use of digital technology. The Boys & Girls Clubs were selected to receive this donation because of their great need for advanced technology and because of their commitment to enriching the lives of young people, a commitment Cox shares.

“More than forty percent of our residential customers trust us to be their telephone service provider and two-thirds of our subscribers take all three of our existing services. Our customers have asked us to include wireless services as part of their bundle and we’ve listened,” said Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications. “We’re excited to let consumers know that they will soon have a better choice for wireless service. We’ve carefully considered the unmet needs of wireless customers and we’ll be delivering a service that is uniquely Cox to address those needs.”

Cox’s wireless service launched to a test group of Cox customers in the first three markets, and the company will expand the service across Hampton Roads, Omaha and Orange County in 2010. While Cox is initially offering an integrated wireless service to residential customers, it will deliver business class services to Cox Business customers in the future. Cox will also be introducing a new retail experience in Hampton Roads, Omaha and Orange County and is increasing its commercial space presence significantly. Over time, the company estimates it will grow its workforce in these markets by about 20 percent throughout its retail locations.

Cox is encouraging consumers to tell the company what they’d like to change about their current wireless services by visiting http://budurl.com/FBWirelessBoard.

Mobile Web 2.0 Now In The Hands Of The Mass Market Youth

Mobile Web 2.0 Now In The Hands Of The Mass Market Youth HONG KONG — December 8, 2009 — Indonesia’s Bakrie Telecom (one of the fastest growing CDMA operators globally), supported by Huawei (a world leading telecom solutions provider), Qualcomm Incorporated (the leading developer of advanced wireless chipset technologies), Miyowa (the global leader in rich mobile messaging and social network aggregation solutions), Facebook® (gives people the power to communicate and share information through the social graph) and Opera Software (a leader in browser for desktop and mobile devices) announce the launch of the HP Esia Online (C6100), one of the world’s most accessible and full-featured QWERTY messaging phone that is custom built for emerging markets. The launch was announced at the CDMA Summit 2009 in Hong Kong on December 8, 2009. The CDMA summit is an annual event focused on device procurements that is attended by hundreds of executives from the CDMA ecosystem, including CDMA2000 operators, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) and other stakeholders from across the globe.

The HP Esia Online (C6100) is a custom-developed smartphone targeting the mass market. It is a stylish and sleek CDMA2000 1X bar-type phone, with a full QWERTY keypad and 2.4-inch QVGA display, based on Qualcomm’s QSC1110 platform. The phone has a digital camera, micro SD card slot, supports MP4/MP3/AAC music playback and can be used as a modem to access the Internet.

The key differentiator, which makes this phone unique and attractive to mass market consumers, is the fact that the phone is preloaded with services addressing new-age consumer needs like email, social networking, instant messaging, browsing, entertainment and information access. The suite of applications includes Opera Mini microbrowser, and a messaging suite of consumer email (POP3/IMAP), Yahoo!® Messenger, Windows Live™ Messenger, Facebook and Google Talk™ custom-developed for C6100 by Miyowa, a premier mobile social networks aggregation company.

The service suite is available to end-users at affordable weekly or daily ‘all inclusive’ price points, on a per service basis. This a-la-carte is a market innovation, since it gives the power of consumption back to the customer by letting them decide what they want, when they want it and for how long. This stand alone bite size pricing has been a proven strategy for Bakrie Telecom in Indonesia for enrichment of the ARPU.

Erik Meijer, Deputy President Director of Bakrie Telecom said, “The basic needs of the mass market youth are evolving beyond vanilla Voice & SMS. The emergence of Web 2.0 has been one of the primary driving forces for this evolution, which is emerging across all social economic segments. HP Esia Online, with the end-user price well below USD100, is part of the next wave of Bakrie Telecom’s disruptive innovations that addresses this need gap and will further drive the company’s growth.”

“This phone with its embedded service suite comprising best of breed applications will ensure revenue expansion as well as enable us to create customer loyalty and stickiness through community-based services in a predominantly prepaid service market. It also makes browsing, social networking and messaging accessible to a much wider audience than ever before,” remarked Meijer.

Glory Cheung, spokesperson for the Huawei Device Company, explained “this latest smart phone reflects our strategy of customer-centric innovation. Huawei has partnered with Bakrie Telecom for devices for three years, and we together have launched many successful thematic feature phones like the world’s most complete Muslim phones, Christian phones, Hindu phones, ethnic Chinese phones, rock group phones, music phones and social networking phones especially for the Indonesian market.”

“This latest C6100 messaging phone combines the currently popular applications with the convenience of a QWERTY keypad to bring an amazing new experience for customers" said Glory.

"Qualcomm is delighted to collaborate with Bakrie Telecom on their introduction of the C6100," said Harry K. Nugraha, senior director and country manager of Indonesia, Qualcomm. "The C6100, a 3G device, leverages Qualcomm's single-chip solution, enabling smaller device form factors and providing better power management. Furthermore, the device is based on our Brew® technology, providing Bakrie subscribers access to some of the leading applications and services from around the world."

Pascal Lorne, Miyowa's CEO added, "this first deployment of our InTouch 5™ platform for Bakrie Telecom is a fantastic achievement for Miyowa, because it is the first time that such a mobile multi-community service is being commercialized in Asia. Our solution provides operators with a unique one-stop-shop, which gives users access to Yahoo!® Messenger, Facebook, Windows Live™ Messenger, Google Talk™ and standard mail, at the same time. Miyowa is the first to provide a multi-headed and stand-alone community service for BREW® and Java™ handsets. We thank all our partners including Bakrie Telecom, Qualcomm and Huawei for this shared success."

“Facebook Mobile’s mission is to ensure our users are able to share and connect, including when they are away from their computer”, said Alison Rosenthal, Head of Business Development, Facebook Mobile. “Working with leaders in the mobile industry such as Qualcomm, enables Bakrie Telecom to offer a unique Facebook experience for the Indonesia market on the C6100 device.”

“Opera Mini’s unique compression and customization feature offers one of the best mobile browsing experience for users and has made it the world’s most popular mobile browser in emerging markets including Indonesia” said James Wei, President Asia/Pacific Opera Software. “Bakrie Telecom’s commitment to preload Opera Mini on all its data enabled phones is a significant step to offer a unique, fast and cost-effective browsing experience for all its users.”

“Services enabled by mobile devices are a key differentiator for CDMA2000 operators in Indonesia,” said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDMA Development Group (CDG). “Bakrie is providing the applications that users want on an affordable smartphone, introducing consumers in the region to wireless data services and driving operator ARPU.”

Bakrie Telecom is certain that this device-service bundle will be the tipping point in other CDMA markets across the globe, with a similar emerging mass market youth segment.

Visafone Becomes The First OMH Compliant Network In Africa

Visafone Becomes The First OMH Compliant Network In Africa
December 7, 2009 – Visafone announced today that it has met all of the requirements to comply with the CDMA Development Group’s (CDG) OMH Initiative, and is the first operator in Africa to do so. In cooperation with Qualcomm Incorporated to ready its CDMA network in Nigeria, Visafone completed the applicable network testing to declare its network OMH-compliance.

With this certification, Visafone is expected to offer SIM cards that can be purchased separately from handsets, thus offering subscribers more freedom of choice between selecting a handset. As an OMH-compliant operator, Visafone will support OMH devices that will be sold across the entire CDMA ecosystem.

OMH is a CDG Initiative that opens distribution channels and increases CDMA device variety. It aims to do so by separating a subscriber’s decision to buy a handset and a decision to buy an OMH SIM card from their preferred CDMA services provider. Visafone’s network now allows subscribers to continue utilizing their existing data services when they switch handsets and helps to increase handset availability by optimizing distribution channels. Subscribers can now walk into a mobile phone shop and purchase an OMH handset and separately purchase a SIM card from their preferred OMH-enabled operator, knowing that their data services will be supported by other OMH handsets. OMH handsets, already available in India, are expected to be in Nigeria in the first half 2010.

Mr. R. Balachandran, Managing Director and CEO of Visafone, stated: “OMH increases CDMA handset variety, as it creates a framework where vendors can distribute handsets across many different markets. The OMH initiative encourages Telecom providers such as Visafone to rollout OMH so that dealers and subscribers have more flexibility, more choice and more access to CDMA devices. OMH definitely optimizes CDMA device distribution and model availability, making it easier for handset models to make their way to the Nigerian market faster.” To ready their network for OMH, Visafone collaborated with Qualcomm Incorporated and CDG. “As the first OMH-Compliant operator in Africa, Visafone is at the forefront of a global initiative,” said Perry LaForge, Executive Director of the CDMA Development Group (CDG).

Visafone customers now have the flexibility to choose from a larger, more affordable selection of CDMA devices.” Visafone prides itself as Nigeria’s fastest growing mobile communications provider with presence in 22 states and over 170 cities across the nation. The wholly Nigerian Company operates with the service ideals of quality, clarity and coverage. The network which promises to renew the joy of communication and give Nigerians the passport to reach the world was awarded ‘The Most Innovated Telecoms Company of the Year’ for 2008.
