Halloween Ranks As Biggest And Busiest Day For Sprint Picture Mail

Halloween Ranks As Biggest And Busiest Day For Sprint Picture Mail OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--Oct. 28, 2009-- It’s your little one’s first foray into the dark world of trick-or-treating and she’s literally as cute as a bug in her ladybug costume. Don’t lose a single memory – aim your mobile phone, snap, hit send – and continue to enjoy the evening without worrying if the photo got to Aunt Betty. That scenario is especially true if you’re using Picture Mail™ on the Now Network from Sprint.

Halloween is by far the most popular day for Sprint Picture Mail, with a 64 percent increase in traffic last year over 2007. This year, because Halloween falls on a Saturday, Sprint expects traffic to double. Through it all, Sprint’s powerful 3G network – named most reliable among major U.S. carriers in a 13-city test by PC World** –will stand tall and steady, just as it did in 2008 when millions of users sent photos without a single outage, hiccup or delay.

From photos of trick-or-treaters, to partygoers to smashed jack-o-lanterns, Sprint’s 3G network quickly and effectively enables customers to share precious Halloween memories with friends and family across the country. To prepare, Sprint regularly performs maintenance and capacity tests and has invested more than $17 billion in capital since 2006 to continue improving and expanding network performance. Sprint is also the first national carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology. Separate from its 3G investment, Sprint has announced plans to extend its 4G leadership by launching the next-generation service in numerous markets in 2009, including the recently launched markets of Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland and Philadelphia.

But it’s not just Sprint’s network that makes Halloween photo sharing so much fun. Sprint also offers the best selection of devices and calling plans with the most value. Whether it’s the Palm® Pre™, the Samsung Reclaim,™ the BlackBerry® Tour™ or the HTC Hero,™ Sprint offers the right device for your lifestyle.

And customers can send pictures and post them to Facebook® without worrying about additional cost. Sprint customers can enjoy Sprint’s Any Mobile, AnytimeSM, which breaks the restrictive calling circle paradigm by providing unlimited nationwide calling from the Sprint Network to any wireless phone regardless of carrier at no additional charge with Everything Data plans from Sprint. An Everything Data plan starts at just $69.99 per month. Or they can choose Simply Everything, which provides unlimited calling, unlimited text and unlimited data including e-mail, social networking, Web browsing, GPS navigation, Sprint TV, streaming music, NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile for only $99.99 per month. That’s a savings of $1,200 over two years vs. a comparable AT&T iPhone® plan*** (all price plans exclude taxes and surcharges).

Palm Pixi Available Nov. 15 For Just $99.99 Exclusively From Sprint

Palm Pixi Available Nov. 15 For Just $99.99 Exclusively From Sprint OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--Oct. 26, 2009-- Sprint today announced Nov. 15 as the first day of nationwide availability for Palm® Pixi™, exclusively available on America’s most dependable 3G network1 from Sprint2. It will cost just $99.99 with a two-year service agreement, after a $50 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate and be available at Sprint stores, online at www.sprint.com, through telesales at 1-800-SPRINT1, and at Best Buy, RadioShack and select Wal-Mart stores.

“We are excited to offer the new Palm Pixi to our customers in time for the holiday season, and it’s a great addition to Sprint’s industry-leading device portfolio,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president – Product Development, Sprint. “Simply put, this phone is fun and easy to use; with its multi-touch screen and full QWERTY keyboard, it’s a great device for messaging and social networking at a price everyone can enjoy, and delivers so many of the great features people love about Palm Pre™ in a fantastic new form factor, making it a huge hit for consumers.”

Running the Palm webOS™ mobile platform, Palm Pixi lets the user keep multiple activities open and move easily between them, like flipping through a deck of cards, using natural gestures. This allows for easy movement between messaging and email or searching the Web while listening to music, and items are rearranged simply by dragging them. Universal search also makes finding things easy, providing results from both the device and the Web.

Palm webOS brings together the user’s most important information from their phone, at work or on the Web into one logical view. In addition to linking information from Google™, Facebook®, Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® and LinkedIn®, Palm Pixi adds Yahoo!® integration to Palm Synergy™3. Palm Synergy offers:

• Linked contacts – A single view that links contacts from a variety of sources, so accessing them is easier than ever.

• Layered calendars – Calendars can be seen on their own or layered together in a single view, combining work, family, friends, sports teams or other interests, and the user can toggle to look at one calendar at a time, or see them all at a glance.

• Combined messaging – See all the conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, including MMS, even if it started in IM and switched to reply with text messaging. The user can also see who’s active in a buddy list right from contacts or email, and start a new conversation with just one touch.

A new Facebook application will be available with Palm Pixi, so users can see and comment on all the latest news from friends and easily update their status. Palm Pixi features an exposed full QWERTY keyboard, multi-touch screen and a durable, removable rubberized back cover.

While Palm Pixi comes with a charger included in the box, Palm recently introduced the Touchstone™ charging dock, the first inductive charging solution for phones. Touchstone, along with the Touchstone compatible back cover (both sold separately), allows Palm Pixi to be set on top of the dock without worrying about connection, orientation or fit. The device remains active while charging, allowing access to the touch screen, movies or video, or the speakerphone option. Touchstone is available in Sprint stores nationwide for $79.99 and includes a Touchstone charger and USB wall charger. The Pixi Touchstone back cover is also available for $19.99 (plus taxes).

Palm Pixi requires activation on a pricing plan including unlimited data, such as Sprint’s Everything Data plans with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM, which give customers unlimited mobile calling on the Sprint network to and from any U.S. wireless carrier, unlimited nationwide texting, email, Web browsing and much more, starting at just $69.99. The Simply EverythingSM plan from Sprint offers a truly unlimited experience for only $99.99 per month, a savings of $1,200 over two years versus a comparable AT&T iPhone® plan4. (All price plans exclude surcharges and taxes. Other exclusions apply.)

Customers who subscribe to an Everything Data plan are also automatically enrolled in Sprint Premier, the industry-leading loyalty program. The Premier program provides customers with great benefits such as annual upgrades, discounts on accessories, anniversary rewards, rate plan checkups and “first to know” information about the latest at Sprint.

Palm Pixi will take advantage of the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network (inclusive of data roaming), which reaches more than 269 million people, 18,652 cities and 1,838 airports. The Sprint Networks (inclusive of data roaming) have more than twice the coverage of AT&T’s current 3G network and more than 15 times the coverage of T-Mobile’s current 3G network, both based on square miles5.

Sprint is also the only wireless carrier to offer Ready Now with trained retail associates to work one-on-one with customers to personalize their Palm Pixi, set up features and demonstrate how it works before the customer leaves the store. Customers have the choice of sitting down with a Sprint retail associate at the time of purchase or they can schedule an appointment for a later time at www.sprint.com/storelocator.

Application developers will have a chance to learn more about Palm webOS at Sprint’s ninth annual developer conference beginning today in Santa Clara, Calif. The Sprint Open Developer Conference is open to all developers and will feature information through speaker sessions and coding camps on developing applications for a range of platforms, including webOS. Palm is a premier sponsor of the conference, and Ben Galbraith and Dion Almaer, directors of Developer Relations for Palm, will be giving a keynote address in addition to running several breakout sessions and coding camps focusing on the webOS platform. China Telecom Selects Alcatel-Lucent’s Multicarrier EV-DO Solution To Enhance End-Users’ 3G Experience

China Telecom Selects Alcatel-Lucent’s Multicarrier EV-DO Solution To Enhance End-Users’ 3G Experience Paris, October 9, 2009 - Alcatel-Lucent today announced that China Telecom, through its subsidiary Shanghai Telecom, successfully tested and validated Alcatel-Lucent’s multicarrier EV-DO solution, based on the Rev. B standard. Alcatel-Lucent’s world-leading solution, which is now installed, will enable Shanghai Telecom to boost its network speed by up to three times and offer increasingly sophisticated 3G services. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company.

Alcatel-Lucent is the sole equipment provider for China’s first multicarrier EV-DO demo launched in Shanghai Telecom’s InfoSpace demonstration center. The demo showcases a 3G network environment with a download rate up to 9.3 Mbps and lower latencies on the application layer, which will greatly improve end-users’ experience when subscribing to bandwidth-consuming mobile services such as VoIP, video telephony and multimedia.

Leveraging CDMA’s upgrade advantages, Shanghai Telecom launched China’s first CDMA EV-DO commercial network in March and completed CDMA coverage of Shanghai’s rural and urban areas three months later. Alcatel-Lucent has provided all of Shanghai Telecom’s CDMA networks, except for Chongming island in Shanghai.

Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent is going to launch a field trial of multicarrier EV-DO with China Telecom in Q4 this year, to help the carrier provide high-quality 3G services during the World Expo.

As a leading provider of CDMA networks, Alcatel-Lucent is fully engaged in CDMA’s technology evolution and commercial deployment. In July ‘09, Alcatel-Lucent participated in China Telecom’s Multicarrier EV-DO Lab Test conducted at the Guangdong Telecom Research Institute, and successfully passed all the test items. At the beginning of the year, Alcatel-Lucent also joined a lab test held in North America, demonstrating that Alcatel-Lucent’s CDMA Rev. A system can be easily upgraded to Multicarrier EV-DO – by means of a simple software upgrade.

“Alcatel-Lucent is committed to helping Shanghai Telecom enhance the user experience of its 3G subscribers. Through a cost-effective CDMA software upgrade, Alcatel-Lucent enables our customers to supply state-of-the-art mobile broadband services,” said Olivia Qiu, President of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell and of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in East Asia.

Alcatel-Lucent is the global leader in CDMA with a 42% market share. Alcatel-Lucent is working with operators – such as Verizon Wireless - as they evolve their networks from CDMA/EV-DO to incorporate LTE technology, ensuring the smooth interoperability of their 3G and 4G network infrastructures.

'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?™ 2010' Goes To The Head Of The Class On Verizon Wireless Phones

''Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?™ 2010'' Goes To The Head Of The Class On Verizon Wireless Phones SAN DIEGO, BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and LOS ANGELES — October 7, 2009 — From CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2009® in San Diego, Verizon Wireless, builder and operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless voice and data network, and Capcom® Mobile in conjunction with Fox Mobile Entertainment today announced the release of the latest edition of the hit mobile game “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?™ 2010” for Verizon Wireless phones.

Based on the hit primetime game show, “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?™ 2010” features all the charm, humor and deceptively difficult questions that make the television show a household name. In the game, players are asked a series of up to 11 questions ranging from subjects such as U.S. history, math or social studies. Perform well, and players can work their way up to the $1 million question. Choke, and players will be forced to utter the unenviable phrase: “I am not smarter than a 5th grader.”

“Verizon Wireless has one of the best virtual storefronts in mobile, and we’re very excited to be premiering ‘ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?™ 2010’ on their network,” said Midori Yuasa, president, Capcom Interactive, Inc. “The 5TH Grader games have set the standard for mobile trivia, and our recent release ups the ante even more.”

The all-new, half-hour version of “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?” airs five days a week in national syndication, as well as on CMT. In addition, MyNetworkTV premiered the game show in primetime on Sept. 29 with back-to-back episodes now airing every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy hosts this atypical game show that measures adults’ lack of knowledge as revealed by how much they’ve forgotten since grammar school. Grownups find themselves in a classroom setting, revisiting their youth, as they tackle subjects they were taught years ago ranging from art to geography and math to social studies. In “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?” however, the players are not alone and there is a way for contestants to “cheat” in this classroom. The adults have the opportunity to get some help in the form of elementary advice from real fifth graders who always seem to know more than the contestants.

Verizon Wireless customers can purchase and download “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?™ 2010” from the TV/Movie/Music category on their Verizon Wireless phones. “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?™ 2010” is available for $7.99 for unlimited use or a $3.49 monthly subscription on more than 40 popular phones from Verizon Wireless, including the LG enV® TOUCH, the LG Versa™, and the Motorola Rival™. Download charges vary and airtime or megabyte charges may apply when browsing, downloading and using certain applications.
