Star Solutions All-IP CDMA Network Solution Enables Telikom PNG to Launch X'Cess Fixed Wireless Services

Star Solutions All-IP CDMA Network Solution Enables Telikom PNG to Launch X'Cess Fixed Wireless Services Richmond, BC, Canada and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea -- September 29, 2009 -- Star Solutions, a global supplier of wireless solutions based on All-IP network architecture, is supplying its All-IP CDMA Network solution to Telikom PNG, the Incumbent Fixed Line Communication Service Provider in Papua New Guinea. The All-IP CDMA Network enables Telikom PNG to deploy voice and broadband data services over an IP based next generation network (NGN). X'cess Fixed Wireless Services allow subscribers in Papua New Guinea to gain access to voice & data services. The first stage of the network launch occurred in May.

The All-IP CDMA Network solution supplied to Telikom PNG is comprised of core network elements, the Sonata SE wireless softswitch and PDSN, enabling a mix of voice and data services, and IP based radio access equipment, the iCell CDMA IP-RAN, employing CDMA 1xRTT and EVDO Rev. A technology. The Sonata SE wireless softswitch platform enables Telikom PNG to cost-effectively plan, deploy and manage voice traffic over IP based connectivity and support CDMA radio resources deployed using terrestrial or in future satellite based connectivity. The solution also supports broadband wireless data service delivery via EVDO Rev. A technology allowing Telikom PNG to offer wireless data plans to its subscribers.

"This deployment allows Telikom PNG to reach into new market opportunities not only by reaching new subscribers with its wireless network," said Nataraj Sappany, VP of International Sales, Star Solutions, "but also by offering new services to subscribers. We are pleased to be a part of Telikom PNG's network growth plans."

"In Papua New Guinea we face unique challenges such as cable theft, vandalism, and challenging geographical terrain. Over 80% of our population is in the rural areas. We chose Star Solutions as our partner due to their proven experience in provisioning low cost IP based wireless telephony and data services. In addition Star Solutions has proven experience in use of IP based VSAT backhaul capability, which enables us to reach out to our rural population" said Peter Loko, CEO, Telikom PNG Ltd.

"This network deployment is an example of how network operators can leverage our IP-based solutions to deploy cost-effective CDMA access networks," said Jack Mar, CEO, Star Solutions. "Our All-IP Network solution enables operators to deploy resources where they most need and connect all network elements together using their NGN/IP network."

CDMA Certification Forum Now the Official Certification Authority for all CDMA2000 Devices

CDMA Certification Forum Now the Official Certification Authority for all CDMA2000 Devices San Diego, Calif., September 10th, 2009 – The CDMA Certification Forum (CCF) announced today that the CTIA CDMA Certification Program has been integrated into the CCF certification process by creating a CTIA Certification Market Endorsement. This latest milestone comes in addition to the CDMA Development Group (CDG) transferring its 1, 2 and 3 test guidelines and endorsing the CCF as the official certification authority for all CDMA2000® devices worldwide.

The successful integration of these two key components makes the CCF the only test and certification process available today for all single-mode and multi-mode CDMA2000 devices. Based on global standards, the CCF’s efficiencies and streamlined automation enable a device vendor to quickly and cost-effectively deliver to its customers products that have been thoroughly and independently tested.

The purpose of the CTIA Certification Market Endorsement is to verify that CDMA2000 wireless devices sold into North America conform to the industry standards specified by CTIA – The Wireless Association®. CDMA2000 devices that may be certified by the CCF include, but are not limited to, mobile phones, fixed wireless phones, smartphones, wireless data modems, PCMCIA cards, USB modems, telemetry devices and computing devices with embedded modules.

“We are pleased to be working with the CCF on the recently converged certification process that provides CDMA industry participants an even more efficient way to test and certify their wireless devices” said Mark Sargent, Assistant Vice President of Certification Programs at CTIA-The Wireless Association ®.

The CDG Stage 1, 2, and 3 recommended testing procedures for CDMA2000 devices were previously added to the CCF test and certification process by merging the CDG-recommended test guidelines into the state-of-the-art CCF test solution.

“By integrating the CTIA Certification Market Endorsement and the CDG 1, 2, and 3 recommended testing procedures into the CCF certification process, the CDG, CTIA and the CCF have realized the industry-wide directive to implement a single certification process that supports all CDMA2000 devices in all global markets”, says Thomas Erickson, President and CEO of the CCF. “The CDMA Certification Forum offers the most extensive library of test coverage available today to provide the fastest and lowest cost path to enter the market for any CDMA2000 device.”

Further information concerning the CCF converged process can be found at www.globalccf.org.
