PCCW Enables Visitors From Mainland China And Other Geographies To Use Their CDMA2000-Standard Mobile Phones In Hong Kong HONG KONG, November 20, 2008 - PCCW today announced the launch of a new service that enables visitors from mainland China and other parts of the world to use their home-based CDMA2000/CDMA IS-95 mobile phones to roam onto the Company's CDMA2000 network in Hong Kong.

PCCW Wireless Business Managing Director Richard Midgett said: "Following successful launch of PCCW's 3G service, we are pleased to deliver Hong Kong's first 3G network deployment based on CDMA2000 technology to serve visitors from mainland China and other parts of the world. Hong Kong's mobile communications networks are based on the GSM standard and its 3G evolution, the number of GSM connections operating worldwide broke the 3 billion mark in 2008. The CDMA2000 standard was originated in the US and has been adopted in geographies such as mainland China, Korea, and Japan, as well as the US.

ZTE, Qualcomm And Aircell Collaborate On Industry-First In-flight Mobile Broadband System Dallas – November 18, 2008 - ZTE USA, Inc. a subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, and Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced their collaboration with Aircell® to create the networking platform for Aircell’s new Inflight Internet service, Gogo®, which first began service in August on select American Airlines flights. Aircell’s Air-to-Ground (ATG) service relies on ZTE’s EV-DO Rev. A base stations and IP switching platform and Qualcomm’s aircraft-mounted modems. ZTE, Aircell and Qualcomm’s R&D group worked closely to engineer a custom solution that would maximize the performance of the in-flight service.

ZTE’s base stations are stationed across the U.S. to support service for Aircell’s airline customers. While en route, subscriber WiFi traffic is transmitted to ZTE’s CDMA EV-DO Rev. A networking equipment via Qualcomm’s aircraft-mounted modems. The technology was engineered to accommodate the high speed and high altitude of aircraft connecting with the base station. As a result, the service dramatically improves upon previous in-flight wireless services, which were slow, expensive and complex.
