Alltel Wireless Rolls Out Faster Broadband Network In Northwest Arkansas

Alltel Wireless Rolls Out Faster Broadband Network In Northwest Arkansas SPRINGDALE, Ark. – June 27, 2008 – Alltel Wireless today announced that it will continue expanding its wireless broadband network in 2008 with the launch of EVDO (evolution data optimized) Revision A technology in Springdale, Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville and surrounding areas of Northwest Arkansas, enabling customers to upload files five to 10 times faster than before.

“Alltel Wireless is committed to bringing our customers the fast wireless broadband service they expect in their business and personal lives,” said Joanna Miller, vice president of business solutions for Alltel. “This network upgrade will give our customers secure, reliable access to the latest wireless technology.”

Alltel’s existing broadband Wireless Internet service enables remote access to corporate intranets, productivity enhancing applications and a variety of consumer products, such as Alltel TV and XM Radio Mobile. Rev. A will enhance the performance of all of those services.

Customers using Rev. A will experience average upload speeds of 500-800 Kbps with bursts up to 1.8 Mbps. Upload speeds on the company’s existing broadband network average 50-70 Kbps, with bursts up to 144 Kbps, so the enhanced network will be five to 10 times faster.

Download speeds also will increase. Rev. A download speeds average 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps, with bursts up to 3.1 Mbps. By comparison, downloads on the existing broadband network average 400-700 Kbps with bursts up to 2.4 Mbps.

Using Rev. A, customers can expect to download a 1 Megabyte e-mail file attachment – the equivalent of a small Power Point® presentation or a large PDF file - in less than 15 seconds and upload the same file in less than 25 seconds.

Alltel Wireless customers will need a Rev. A-capable device to access the company’s enhanced broadband network. Rev. A-capable Wireless Internet cards for laptops include the Huawei EC228 USB and the UTStarcom UM 150. Customers with an HTC PPC6800 or the HTC Touch smartphone can make their phones Rev. A-capable by visiting www.htc.com/us/ and downloading the appropriate software. The software is free.

Alltel Wireless has one of the largest EVDO footprints of any U.S. carrier, covering cities such as Cleveland, Charlotte and Tampa, as well as many smaller communities. In addition to the extensive coverage provided by its own network, Alltel’s roaming agreements give its customers with data-card equipped laptops Wireless Internet access in all of the nation’s major metropolitan areas, including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Both versions of Alltel’s Wireless Internet service - EVDO and Rev. A - are available for $59.99 a month and do not require a voice plan in order to qualify.

Customers also can add unlimited access to 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots to any Alltel Wireless Internet plan for $9.99 per month.

Multi-Links Selects Nortel To Expand Mobile Broadband Services In Nigeria

Multi-Links Selects Nortel To Expand Mobile Broadband Services In Nigeria LAGOS, Nigeria – June 25, 2008 – Multi-Links Telecommunications Ltd., one of Nigeria's leading service providers, has entered into a three-year frame contract with Nortel to expand and upgrade its wireless network.

The initial phase of the contract has been awarded and is valued at US $45 million. The enhanced network will use Nortel's CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev A solution to bring high-speed mobile broadband services to Multi-Links' growing subscriber base in the metropolitan region of Lagos, the prime economic center of the country.

Lagos is the most populous urban area in Africa with more than eight million people and Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with a population of over 140 million. However, even with large numbers of potential subscribers, the country has an Internet penetration of only 6.75 percent, according to International Telecommunications Union statistics. Nigeria is listed by Goldman Sachs as one of the "Next Eleven**" economies with high growth potential, and is one of the fastest growing in the world according to the International Monetary Fund.

Nortel's 1xEV-DO Rev A solution will give Multi-Links the network capacity to grow its subscriber base by bringing wireless communications to more people in Lagos. This broader network coverage is expected to fulfil subscriber demand of people in Nigeria for access to the internet from work, home and on the move.

"Multi-Links has begun an aggressive rollout program to increase network capacity with plans to provide broadband coverage for 80 percent of the Nigerian population by 2011 and 100 percent of the population by 2013," said Justin Ramayia, CEO, Multi-Links. "We've been working with Nortel since our early beginnings in 1996. With this deployment, Nortel is helping to ensure that Multi-Links can meet growing market demand in Nigeria for reliable voice and broadband services that will strengthen our competitive edge."

"Multi-Links will be one of the first service providers to bring mobile broadband services to consumers and businesses in Nigeria," said Michel Clement, president, Nortel Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Nortel is continually enhancing its CDMA offerings enabling customers like Multi-Links to improve voice and data services for their subscribers while putting in place the building blocks for evolving to 4G mobile broadband."

The combination of next-generation network components provided by Nortel will allow Multi-Links to reliably serve more customers on the same spectrum while delivering advanced broadband services that can enhance the end user experience and increase subscriber loyalty. The new Nortel network will be based on upgrades to Multi-Links' current network assets thereby maximizing the value of their prior investments and providing a simple and cost-effective evolution path to 1xEV-DO Rev A. The faster data rates offered by 1xEV-DO Rev A (up to 3.1 Mbps in the forward link and 1.8 Mbps in the reverse link) combined with Nortel's high Quality of Service (QoS) and the Nortel Packet Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) will support 3G services such as video-on-demand, large file uploads/downloads and high performance push-to-talk/see capability.

The Multi-Links network will include Nortel's industry leading Enhanced Base Station Controller, EV-DO Radio Network Controller and suite of base stations that support 1x and 1xEV-DO Rev A. Nortel's base stations are designed and built with unique innovations in Power Amplifiers and transceivers which provide significant reductions in power consumption while creating a more environmentally friendly network that is less expensive to run.

Nortel will provide skilled resources from its Global Services to conduct the global project management from network design and planning to implementation, including installation, RF planning, commissioning and integration with other third parties.

Nortel has provided equipment for over 50 percent of all commercially deployed 1x EV-DO networks worldwide including Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel in the United States, Peoplenet in Ukraine and Movicel in Angola. Nortel was the first to commercially offer 1xEV-DO in South America with Embratel (Brazil), in Central America with Telefonica Guatemala, and the first to commercially offer EV-DO in 450 MHz in Eastern Europe with Telefónica - O2. Nortel is conducting LTE trials in 2008 and has conducted the world's first LTE Live-Air and Mobility demonstrations.

Pearl Jam Offers First Mobile Bootlegs To Verizon Wireless Customers

Pearl Jam Offers First Mobile Bootlegs To Verizon Wireless Customers BASKING RIDGE, NJ — June 11, 2008 — Pearl Jam, one of the most respected and sought-after bands in the world, is expanding the band’s bootleg program for their 12-city U.S. tour and joining forces with Verizon Wireless to further connect with fans through mobile music. Beginning with the first show of the Pearl Jam 2008 tour in West Palm Beach, Fla., on June 11, Verizon Wireless customers will have exclusive mobile access to the globally acclaimed band’s first-ever mobile bootleg recordings. In addition, Pearl Jam will also be supporting Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program that turns unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence by holding phone collection drives at each venue.

The Pearl Jam Mobile Bootleg Program

Every night of the tour, Pearl Jam’s live concert performance will be recorded. After each performance, Pearl Jam’s studio engineer will mix three songs on the Verizon Mobile Recording Studio Bus that will be re leased on V CAST Music. Verizon Wireless will offer one of the full-length tracks for free on V CAST Music; the other two full-length songs will be available, as well as the ringtones and ringback tones for all three songs, at standard costs. Each free mobile bootleg will be available until the following show; however, customers will be able to access and purchase all of the mobile bootlegs as they become available through the end of the tour. Fans can download Pearl Jam’s songs as ringtones, ringback tones and full-song downloads either over-the-air onto their phones or on their PCs with V CAST Music from Verizon Wireless under the Pearl Jam category.

HopeLine

Fans will have the opportunity to donate their old wireless phones at each stop of the tour by simply bringing no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories with them and dropping them in the HopeLine donation area at each venue. The first 50 people making a donation to HopeLine will receive a special Pearl Jam VIP gift bag. All Verizon Wirel! ess cust omers making donations at each concert venue will receive a free Pearl Jam ringtone and ringback tone for bringing their old phones and accessories to the show. People not attending the show can bring their donation into Verizon Wireless Communications Stores. Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program puts the nation’s most reliable wireless network to work in communities by turning unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence. Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones in any condition from any wireless service provider and recycles them or refurbishes them for resale and reuse.

Mobile Tickets

Verizon Wireless customers in each of the tour cities who have downloaded any type of Pearl Jam mobile content from V CAST since the beginning of the year will be entered for a chance to win tickets to the show. The mobile tickets – containing a unique barcode and good for two seats at the most sought-after show in town – will be de livered to the customers’ mobile phones two weeks prior to the show and will be scanned at the entrance, just as paper tickets are scanned when fans enter a venue.

Ed Ruth, director of digital music for Verizon, said, “Pearl Jam has long been at the forefront of generations of talented artists taking action and speaking out on what’s important to them, and mobile technology is a large part of that movement. Verizon Wireless delivers the opportunity for artists to interact directly with fans – they can download music, win tickets to the show and now get the world’s first mobile bootlegs from this legendary band.”

“Pearl Jam continues to explore new and innovative ways to get their music to their fans,” said Ten Club President Tim Bierman. “As we have learned from our younger fans, more and more listeners are accessing their music through their mobile handsets. Third Mobile Operator Arrives, Focuses On Simplicity And Transparency: Wana Launches Its Mobile With An Exclusive Prepaid Offer

Third Mobile Operator Arrives, Focuses On Simplicity And Transparency: Wana Launches Its Mobile With An Exclusive Prepaid Offer (Casablanca, June, 5th 2008). Wana’s new national mobile offer will become officially available in all of the operator’s retail outlets starting Tuesday, June, 10th. After eight years of mobile duopoly in Morocco, the new offer reflects the company’s firm bet for higher transparency and simplicity in the mobile market, and aims to constitute a practical alternative to all current and future mobile users.

Wana’s pro-consumer stance

Wana wants customers to make the « right choice », to understand offers, to be convinced of what they buy. What is beneficial for consumers is thus beneficial for Wana. In this spirit, Wana wants to build a relationship based on honesty with all its customers: no more asterisks, illegible footnotes, cross-references to pre-established conditions or any other “small print” of the kind that routinely brings bad surprises to most mobile users.

In addition to transparency, Wana wants to give customers full decision-making control all along their relationship with the operator: « In a context of high cost of living, we are determined to contribute to protect the purchasing power of Moroccans by giving them control of their communication expenses, all at extremely competitive prices » said Mr. Karim Zaz, CEO of Wana.

One full year preparing for today’s launch

Launching the mobile offer presented today has taken 12 full months of preparation. From the start, Wana aspired to a high-quality launch integrating the full experience acquired as a mass-market operator since its start in early 2007. The new mobile service is supported by a cutting edge network covering the entire country, from Tangier to Laayoune; a renewed distribution channel with more than 500 retail outlets throuhgout Morocco, and a dedicated customer service available 7/7.

Right from the start, the company is offering 20 stylish mobile phones fitting all budgets, from world-class manufacturers such as Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and LG.

Also, subscribers to Wana’s new mobile service will be able to use their phone line in more than 200 countries thanks to a world-wide roaming agreement with Vodafone, the world’s largest (non-Chinese) mobile operator. Mr. Zaz said, « we have made every effort to guarantee the success of our mobile offer and, specially, to fully satisfy the needs of our customers. Their satisfaction is our primary goal ».

The ‘Mobile à la carte’ : A single TTC price plus a permanent Extra

In the prepaid segment, Wana ’s ‘mobile à la carte’ constitutes a true breakthrough in the current mobile market. In an environment dominated by unclear tariffs, strong price differences as a function of time of the day, high prices when calling other mobile operators, exceptions, conditions, on-and-off promotions and small print, Wana arrives with an unbeatable offer: a unique 3 Dh TTC price valid 24/24, 7/7 to all fixed and mobile numbers in Morroco.

Complementing this simple, all-inclusive tariff, Wana introduces another breakthrough concept: the “Extra”: for each 50 Dh TTC consumed, customers automatically (and immediately) receive another 50 Dh worth of free credit, also valid 24/24, 7/7 to all operators, and usable

during 1 full month. Access to this bonus is automatic, so users don’t need to do anything to receive it. And permanent: contrary to other promotions currently in the market, Wana’s Extra is continuous and for life.

As another innovation benefiting consumers, Wana announces the first free credit check-up in the market, reflecting the company’s genuine drive towards transparency and honesty-based customer relationships.

The offer goes on with all the practical services expected from a modern mobile operator (SMS, MMS….) plus a range of mobile phones enabling multimedia applications such as video, photo, MP3, etc.

Top-ups for the mobile offer will be available at all operator points of sale at 20, 50, 100 and 200 DH for physical scratch-cards.

The ‘Mobile pour les entreprises’

In parallel to the mass-market offer, starting June 10 Wana is also launching a business offer through Wana Entreprises (www.wanaentreprises.ma), therefore becoming the 1st triple-play operator in Morroco with a fully integrated offer (fixed, mobile and data). Here, the aim is the democratisation of mobile service within Morocco’s enterprises and SMEs, by offering entrepreneurs the possibility to extend mobility to all employees in order to improve the competitiveness of their companies without any bad surprises in the costs department.

In order to do this, Wana’s professional mobile offer is based on the principle of free and unlimited communications between a company’s fixed and mobile phones, without any limitations.

Through these mass-market and professional offers, Wana confirms its stance as a truly global telecom operator with the ambition and the future potential to contribute to the wellbeing of the Moroccan people and the competitiveness of the country.
