Alcatel-Lucent and Airvana To Jointly Demonstrate A CDMA Femtocell Solution At CTIA 2008

Alcatel-Lucent and Airvana To Jointly Demonstrate A CDMA Femtocell Solution At CTIA 2008 Las Vegas, March 31, 2008 — Airvana, Inc., and Alcatel-Lucent today announced they will jointly demonstrate an end-to-end third- generation (3G) CDMA/EV-DO femtocell solution, supporting voice and mobile high-speed data services, at the CTIA Wireless 2008 tradeshow and exhibition. The demonstration is taking place April 1-3, 2008 in Alcatel-Lucent’s booth (#2613) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Femtocells are small cellular access points that leverage existing broadband connectivity to provide consumers with enhanced mobile voice, video and data services, especially in the home using existing mobile phones and other wireless devices. They will enable operators to cost-effectively increase their network coverage and capacity to meet the growing demand for mobile voice and data services, particularly in difficult-to-serve indoor environments as well as to ultimately offer new services and service packages to users.

To provide femtocell-based services, mobile operators will deploy end-to-end solutions that incorporate the femtocell device, femto network gateways, and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core network infrastructure. The joint demonstration by Alcatel-Lucent and Airvana is an example of vendors cooperating to deliver just such a solution.

The advanced CDMA femtocell solution envisioned by both companies combines Airvana’s radio access technology, including the femto access point and Femto Network Gateway services provided by the Universal Access Gateway (UAG), together with Alcatel-Lucent’s IMS core supporting CDMA—SIP convergence. Built on an innovative flat IP architecture using IMS and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standards, this solution provides support for both CDMA2000 1X and EV-DO Rev. A service, together with unique capabilities to allow seamless inter-working between the femtocell and the broader macro network, in order to ensure that users have a consistent, high-quality mobile experience for voice, data, and video services as they move between the indoor and outdoor environments. By working together the two companies can offer operators the benefits of advanced femto radio access capabilities together with a full suite of IMS products and features in an integrated solution that leverages the combined expertise of Airvana and Alcatel-Lucent.

Thx 4 Ur Msg: Verizon Wireless Customers Send And Receive 20 Billion Messages In A Single Month

Thx 4 Ur Msg: Verizon Wireless Customers Send And Receive 20 Billion Messages In A Single Month LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, NJ — March 31, 2008 — Seven years after the launch of basic text messaging, Verizon Wireless customers sent and received more than 10 billion messages in a single month – June 2007.

Eight short months later, the number of text messages on the Verizon Wireless network in a month (Feb. 2008) doubled to nearly 20 billion.

“The volume of text messages being sent and received by Verizon Wireless customers is growing exponentially,” said Mike Lanman, chief marketing officer of Verizon Wireless. “Whether it’s sports scores, news updates, the latest weather forecast, or the ‘joke of the day’, text messages are a tremendous way for anyone to stay on top of what’s happening in the world.

“Not to mention all of the parents – and grandparents – keeping up with their kids, or kids texting each other throughout the day, text messaging is becoming an increasingly important way to communicate for people of all ages,” Lanman added.

Benefits of Text Messaging

As texting grows into a more mainstream communications channel, opportunities grow for new and innovative messaging programs – some involving short codes – that allow citizens to participate in activities of their choice.

Hundreds of contests, promotions and other “opt-in” campaigns have been launched in the past few years, giving marketers and advocates other ways to reach consumers with unique offers or information. Since 2005, wireless service providers have offered Wireless AMBER Alerts, allowing consumers to “opt-in” to receive a text message when an AMBER Alert about a missing or abducted child is issued in their area.

Using text messaging to fundraise for charity is another of those opportunities. Verizon Wireless believes it’s time to create a set of best practices around mobile giving, so Americans who contribute are protected and there is a solid framework in place for these campaigns.

Stopping Unwanted Text Messages and Wireless Spam

As the use and popularity of text messaging has increased, Verizon Wireless has been increasingly vigilant in its efforts to thwart wireless spam. Network filters prevent as many as 200 million spam messages per month from reaching customers’ handsets. When spam messages do get through, the company investigates outbreaks and in some cases, brings lawsuits against the spammers.

Verizon Wireless offers numerous ways for customers to block text messages – everything from stopping messages that originate on the Internet or e-mail (where most spam is generated) from being delivered, to blocking short code-based text message campaigns that involve premium charges, to completely turning off messaging to and from a handset. For example:

• Vtext.com: Customers can log in with their mobile number and password, choose preferences, and choose text blocking, where they will see several options: 1) block all messages from the Web/Internet; 2) block all messages from e-mail; 3) block messages from up to 15 specific domain names or e-mail addresses. Customers can also choose to allow only texts sent to a nickname@vtext.com. Nicknames can be created by choosing the “nickname” tab on the left-hand side of the screen. The Web site can be accessed at www.vtext.com or text.vzw.com.

• Premium SMS Blocking: Beginning in Jan. 2008, Verizon Wireless made available this feature which enables customers to block only text messages for short code campaigns that involve premium charges. Customers can add this option by visiting the “My Account” page on www.verizonwireless.com, then selecting features and choosing the add/delete button. They can also contact Customer Service.

• V-BLOCK: This feature prevents incoming and outgoing text messages from being sent or received from a certain mobile number/handset. The only messages the customer will receive are voicemail alerts. Customers can add this option by calling Customer Service. Federal Communications Commission regulations prohibit the use of automated dialers to call or send unsolicited text messages to cellphone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the telemarketing industry; so most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cellphones without their consent. Customers who want to add their cellphone number to the national Do Not Call registry may do so online at www.donotcall.gov.

Motorola Demonstrates CDMA Femtocell Solution At CTIA

Motorola Demonstrates CDMA Femtocell Solution At CTIA ARLINGTON HTS., Ill., March 26, 2008 -- Motorola, Inc. will demonstrate its expanded femtocell portfolio, including its CDMA solution, at Motorola's booth #1806 at CTIA Wireless 2008 Apr. 1-3 in Las Vegas. An expansion to its current line of femtocell customer premises equipment (CPE), including the company's first 3G UMTS femtocell CPE announced at Mobile World Congress last month, the CDMA-based femtocell enhances the company's end-to-end femtocell portfolio.

The addition of the CDMA femtocell combined with the previously announced 3G UMTS solution means Motorola offers a portfolio of femtocell solutions for both technologies. The CDMA femtocell solution is expected to be commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2008.

"From infrastructure to CPE, Motorola's experience in leading the development of femtocell technology is further fuelling the deployment and adoption of femtocells as a smart solution to connect to a consumer's existing broadband service and provide higher-quality, higher-performance wireless voice and real-time data services inside the home," said Darren McQueen, vice president, IMS, Cellular and Broadband Network Technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. "With the addition of our CDMA femtocell portfolio, we can offer a fully tested and integrated, low-risk, fast-to-market solution to an even broader range of wireless and broadband users."

Motorola is a leader in bridging IP and wireless networks. By utilizing standard communication protocols such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Motorola's femtocell solution will enable CDMA wireless carriers to accelerate the use of their IP-based core networks to immediately take advance of cost and service advantages that IP delivers. Motorola's CDMA femtocell uniquely supports both 1xRTT and EV-DO technologies and can be deployed in a vendor's CDMA network. The solution also leverages a Femto Network Gateway designed to address the mobility, performance and security issues facing wireless carriers that use the Internet to extend their radio access network.

Designed for high quality service levels, Motorola's femtocell portfolio is enhanced by Motorola's NBBS device management system. The NBBS platform is a highly scaleable service and CPE management system that enables an excellent end user experience while minimizing WiMAX, GSM and CDMA operators' support cost, helping them to accelerate the introduction of new services and devices.

Femtocells are small, low-cost and low-power cellular access points that connect to a consumer's existing broadband Internet service, enabling operators to provide higher-quality and higher-performance wireless voice and real-time data services to their customers inside their homes. In addition, they enable a lower cost of delivery for wireless traffic in comparison to a macrocell network. For consumers, femtocells enable a seamless communication experience as they roam from inside to outside their homes, reduced "in-home" call charges, improved indoor coverage and consolidated billing.

Motorola is a member of the Femto Forum, the independent industry association that supports femtocell deployment worldwide. In addition, Motorola leverages its leadership in fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) deployments and experience in delivering convergence solutions to major operators worldwide.

Airvana Spotlights CDMA Femtocell Leadership At CTIA Wireless 2008

Airvana Spotlights CDMA Femtocell Leadership At CTIA Wireless 2008 CHELMSFORD, MA, March 26, 2008 — Airvana, Inc., the company transforming the mobile experience, will showcase its comprehensive solutions for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) at CTIA Wireless 2008 (Booth 3321), taking place April 1-3, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. In live demonstrations, the company is highlighting the HubBub™ CDMA femtocell, the only femtocell to support both 1x RTT and EV-DO services; the Universal Access Gateway (UAG), a convergence gateway for innovative femtocell or Wi Fi-enabled FMC services; and the Femto Service Manager, which provides standards-based, highly scalable management and auto-configuration capabilities for femtocell deployments.

According to the CDMA Development Group (CDG), the number of CDMA subscribers exceeded 431 million globally at the close of 2007, a year-over-year increase of nearly 15 percent, and femtocells are expected to play a key role in CDMA network growth. Airvana offers the most comprehensive femtocell solution for CDMA networks, with in-home femtocells and a femto network gateway as well as the software to accelerate and scale deployments through automated configuration and remote management. In addition, Airvana’s HubBub femtocell supports up to six concurrent users, features powerful RF interference mitigation capabilities, has a software-defined feature set to enable remote provisioning of new services, and is the only CDMA femtocell that supports both 1x-RTT and EV-DO. Based on these factors, Airvana’s HubBub CDMA femtocell has been named a CTIA Emerging Technology Award finalist.

Another key factor in successful femtocell deployments is multi-vendor interoperability and the ability to leverage existing network investments, so Airvana is working closely with leading CDMA equipment manufacturers to provide operators with femtocell and gateway technologies optimized to work with their existing core mobile network infrastructures. To that end, Airvana and Motorola recently announced that the two companies have entered into an OEM agreement for CDMA femtocells.

“The customer desire to use their mobile phone as their primary communications device, coupled with the rise in 3G services, is the driving force behind FMC. And to provide customers with the best FMC experience possible, you need to support both 1x-RTT and EV-DO services,” said Dave Nowicki, vice president, Marketing, Airvana. “Our CDMA femtocells, which uniquely support both voice and mobile broadband services, and our advanced UAG technology, when paired with the core mobile network infrastructure of our partners, is a compelling solution for operators wishing to deliver FMC options that truly meet their subscribers’ requirements for features and performance.”

Motorola Demonstrates Industry's First CDMA/EV-DO Rev-A to LTE Network Handoffs

Motorola Demonstrates Industry''s First CDMA/EV-DO Rev-A to LTE Network Handoffs SCHAUMBURG, Ill., March 26, 2008 -- Motorola, Inc. today announced the first successful packet-switched network handoff between CDMA EV-DO Rev-A and Long Term Evolution (LTE) technologies in a demonstration with VoIP calls and streaming video. Motorola's handoff technique illustrates how service providers using CDMA-based networks today can smoothly integrate broadband OFDMA and IP packet-based wireless broadband technologies like LTE into their network, enabling the roll-out of more interactive services like HD mobile blogging and broadcasting, HD video-on-demand and online gaming.

Designed to encourage discussions and trials of high-performance, mobile broadband networks, Motorola's demonstration highlights LTE's potential for delivering multiple voice, video, data and wireless services with transparent mobility between LTE and legacy networks using multi-mode LTE/CDMA/EV-DO Rev-A enabled devices. The handoff also shows carriers interested in upgrading their networks the viability of deploying LTE while using their existing 3G network coverage and assets, without sacrificing service quality as consumers move between LTE and 3G network coverage zones.

"Technological enhancements such as the CDMA/EV-DO Rev-A to LTE handoff demonstration done by Motorola gives Alltel confidence that LTE is progressing in the right direction," said Chris Smith, executive vice president, Network Services, Alltel. "It is going to be incredibly important for LTE to inter-operate with our existing technology as this is one of many key functionalities that will play a critical role in our final decision making."

In this Motorola demonstration, laptops and mobile devices are equipped with dual radio transceivers that support both CDMA/EV-DO Rev-A and LTE and are active during the packet handoffs. As a device loses LTE connectivity, it automatically switches to EV-DO to ensure consistent streaming without dropping IP packets. The process is then reversed, and devices switch back to LTE when LTE connectivity is restored.

While the LTE standards are still under development, the handover mechanisms employed in this demonstration leverage concepts which are part of the non-optimized handover procedures in LTE core network SAE standard 3GPP TS 23.402.

The Motorola mobile devices and networks product and advanced technology teams collaborated to develop the necessary application software for the base station trial equipment and the mobile device used in the demonstration.

A network operator, Iusacell has embarked on a strategic and differentiating approach that focuses on mobile data products and services, which places the company as a leading-edge technology operator. Customers can send and receive email with large file attachments, receive and send high-resolution pictures and video and wirelessly connect to the Internet anytime, anywhere. EV-DO Rev. Users also have enough space to store downloaded music files, documents and installation guide. Another unique feature includes a swiveling USB connector, which allows the modem to be raised vertically for improved radio frequency performance or folded away when not in use.

“With the CDU-680 USB modem, Franklin Wireless continues to push the envelope with high-end features and capabilities for wireless broadband USB modems,” said Mr. O.C. Kim, president of Franklin Wireless. “We are pleased to offer Iusacell’s users a multi-platform connectivity solution that will enable them to connect anywhere, anytime.”

Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach Initiative Brings Advanced 3G Technology to Vietnam Communities

Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach Initiative Brings Advanced 3G Technology to Vietnam Communities DONG ANH, VIETNAM — March 24, 2008 — Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, announced today it is working to improve access to education tools and resources through the provision of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO wireless broadband services at the Community Technology and Learning Center (CTLC) in Dong Anh, Vietnam. The CTLC is part of the Training Online Programs and Incubation for Communities (TOPIC64) initiative, supported by USAID's public/private partnership agreement with Qualcomm through its Wireless Reach™ initiative and other TOPIC64 partners.

Wireless Reach, along with United States Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr. Michael Michalak, and TOPIC64 partners from Electricity Vietnam Telecom (EVNTelecom), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and the Center for Research and Consulting on Management (CRC), are working together to empower underserved communities in each of Vietnam's 64 provinces by establishing CTLCs with computers, software and Internet connectivity via 3G CDMA wireless technology. Each organization contributed to the project by providing software, equipment, technical support, management fees for implementing and administrating the project and wireless equipment.

“One of my primary goals as the U.S. Ambassador is to actively pursue initiatives for enhancing educational opportunities for Vietnamese citizens,” said Michael Michalak, United States Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. “TOPIC64 is an excellent example of the power of public-private partnerships to facilitate education in Vietnam by bringing affordable wireless voice and data services to rural areas and creating learning opportunities for Vietnamese communities.”

“Wireless Reach is committed to actively support the Vietnamese government in improving Internet penetration rates and the overall educational environment,” said Ming Li, vice-president of business development for Qualcomm. “TOPIC64 cultivates new learning opportunities in Vietnam through the provision of 3G Internet access and Microsoft materials that have been translated into Vietnamese with corresponding training. The CTLCs offer an avenue for local people to get trained on practical applications and skills that hopefully can translate into jobs for them.”

TOPIC64 was launched in April 2006 as one of Qualcomm's first Wireless Reach projects. It seeks to educate Vietnamese citizens in basic IT, management and marketing skills by providing technical expertise via teacher training and technical support at each of the CTLCs. With the project's 64 CTLCs established, Qualcomm and EVNTelecom have invested in upgrading the Dong Anh center to EV-DO to enable additional services and enhanced educational learning opportunities on EVNTelecom's new broadband wireless network. In 2006, the Development Gateway Award selected TOPIC64 from 160 projects worldwide into the seven finalists for excellence in application of ICT for communities. In 2007, the Stockholm Challenge Award also named TOPIC64 among the three international finalists for ICT application in education.

“To date, approximately 24,000 students have been trained with the centers' basic IT training program, about 840 teachers have been tested and trained about the new curriculum and teaching methodology,” said Dr. Tuan Pham, director of CRC. “The importance of ICT in Vietnam's education has increased significantly over the past few years, and with the upgrade to EV-DO technology, we hope to promote other online learning opportunities for rural citizens, as well as potentially work with the Vietnamese government to provide government services online.”

“Being well aware of TOPIC64's importance and social benefit and its reliance on our cutting-edge CDMA technology network, EVNTelecom is pleased to be providing high-speed Internet access, free CPE, one-year free services for CTLC and 24/7 technical support for the project,” said Mr Nguyen Manh Bang, CEO of EVNTelecom, a subsidiary of EVN Group now operating a CDMA2000 450Mhz cellular mobile network nationwide, and one of three full-licensed telecom operators in Vietnam.

EV-DO is a data-optimized, all-IP evolution of CDMA2000® that provides multi-megabit-per-second peak rates and average rates of hundreds of kilobits per second at a lower cost per bit than any other 3G technology available today, an increasingly important factor as wireless services become richer in content. EV-DO makes wireless broadband possible, leading to exciting multimedia capabilities for consumers, productivity benefits for corporate users and cost efficiencies, as well as revenue opportunities and improved ROI for operators. Since EV-DO offers higher system throughput, the cost of transferring each bit of data is lower, enabling low-cost offerings for consumers, mobile professionals and residential customers alike.

Currently, Sprint distributes content from all of FIM's leading sites, including FOXSports.com, IGN, Photobucket and the network of MyFOX local sites.

Sprint Teams With China Telecom To Expand Global MPLS Capabilities In China For Businesses

Sprint Teams With China Telecom To Expand Global MPLS Capabilities In China For Businesses OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--March 19, 2008--China Telecom Corporation Limited and Sprint are collaborating to complement Sprint's Global MPLS capabilities for customers in China by interconnecting the IP VPN networks of the two companies. This strategy includes establishing multiple, redundant network-to-network interconnection (NNI) agreements between Sprint and China Telecom in the Asia-Pacific region so customers can experience the same congestion-free connectivity within China and the security, redundancy and quality of service they have come to expect on the Sprint Global MPLS network.

This relationship allows Sprint to extend its existing capabilities and footprint in China by giving Sprint customers access to the full range of capabilities inherent in China Telecom's Next Convergence Network (CN2) with coverage in more than 200 cities and 600 routers across the country.

"This collaboration enables businesses to simplify network operations worldwide by allowing them to converge data, voice and video on a single, secure network platform, and experience ubiquitous connectivity across Sprint and partner networks," said Dan Dooley, vice president of international and wholesale markets, Sprint. "Collaborating with China Telecom allows Sprint to extend the reach of robust MPLS capabilities as more and more businesses look to expand operations to and within China."

Sprint's Global MPLS capabilities reach 137 countries worldwide. Sprint continues to grow IP business domestically and internationally, helping customers plan for the future by enhancing the capabilities available and enabling connectivity to wherever customers conduct business. As part of this growth, Sprint has established NNI relationships with multiple partners in Canada, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Sprint Customers To Get A PC-Like Experience Of The Open Internet On Their Phones

Sprint Customers To Get A PC-Like Experience Of The Open Internet On Their Phones OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- March 18, 2008--As customers increasingly look to their wireless phones for their Internet "on the go," Sprint will continue its leadership in employing an open Internet model with the launch of an enhanced mobile Web browsing experience on virtually all Web-capable Sprint phones. As the first U.S. carrier to launch the OpenWeb solution from Openwave Systems Inc., Sprint customers will be able to get faster, more user-friendly renderings of Internet sites, even those not optimized for the mobile device. This enhancement will be automatic for customers who currently access the Internet on their phones and will require no additional action on their part.

"Whether clicking through the Sprint portal or typing in a URL, both new and existing customers can use their Sprint phones to search virtually any Web site and it will appear quickly and in a format they're used to seeing on their computer screens," said Kevin Packingham, vice president of wireless product management for Sprint. "By working with Openwave, we're making that Internet experience even more customer-friendly and useful by enhancing the ability to translate non-mobile sites onto the mobile phone. While other carriers are just beginning to talk about open ecosystem initiatives, Sprint is continuing its efforts to give customers an even better experience with the Internet that we have always allowed."

Each month, millions of Sprint customers visit Web sites using their mobile phones. With Openwave OpenWeb, these pages will automatically appear on data-enabled Sprint phones in an easy-to-read format that's closer to a desktop experience of the Internet, regardless of the memory or processing power of the device. The enhancement is designed to adapt the standard layout of a Web site and reconstruct it to properly fit the screen of the user's particular phone, providing automatic in-page navigation so users can reach the most important data from the Web site faster.

Available nationwide in the coming weeks, this enhancement follows Sprint's launch of a more user-friendly mobile search product, Microsoft's enhanced Live Search for mobile, in 2007. Sprint plans to launch additional mobile Web innovations in 2008 that will further enhance users' experience on their mobile device. To access the mobile Web, customers should click on the Web icon on their phone's main menu.

Sprint is committed to offering its customers an enhanced mobile Internet experience, along with mobile content and applications, when, where and how they want them:

• Sprint has employed an open Internet approach since first launching the Wireless Web on its phones in 2001.

• Through relationships with third parties, dozens of non-Sprint branded applications, games and other digital media operate on the Sprint network.

• Sprint will hold its eighth annual Application Developer Conference later this year to provide third-party developers with tools and resources for creating innovative products and services for Sprint customers.

• Sprint recently joined the Open Handset Alliance, along with more than 30 other participating companies, to support the free and open mobile applications platform named Android.

• As part of the planned 2008 commercial availability of our next-generation mobile data network, Xohm(SM), Sprint has commitments from ecosystem partners for WiMAX network access on new and innovative devices, including connection cards, Internet tablets, ultramobile PCs and other consumer electronic devices.

There are no limits to the number of remixes participants can submit, and colleges may opt out of the contest at any time.

In addition, the top 20 individuals with the remixes that receive the most props will be selected as finalists for the cash prize. The band will select the individual with the best remix, who will be awarded $4,000.

“We are thrilled to work with Verizon Wireless and we challenge our fans to make the best remix,” said Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased and excited to offer Linkin Park’s fans an opportunity to win a campus concert,” said Ed Ruth, director of digital music for Verizon. “Linkin Park is a band that enjoys interacting with their fans and sharing their passion for music. This contest lets fans channel their creativity, share the fun and create a lasting piece of music themselves.”

Reuters Teams Up With Cannon U.S.A. And Sprint To Move Images Of Shuttle Launches Moments After Launch

Reuters Teams Up With Cannon U.S.A. And Sprint To Move Images Of Shuttle Launches Moments After Launch NEW YORK, March 12, 2008 – Reuters has teamed up with Canon U.S.A., Inc. and Sprint to develop a system that captures shuttle launch images from multiple remote cameras moments after they are taken and quickly retrieves and moves images across the Reuters wire, thus reducing the time it takes for wire transmission by 95 percent.

By using Canon's digital cameras and short telephoto lenses, images were captured from within a few hundred yards of the actual launch pad. The process was powered by Sprint Mobile Broadband, the nation's largest mobile broadband network with super fast wireless data speeds.

During the past two launches of Atlantis and Endeavour on Feb. 7 and March 11, 2008, the system developed by Reuters, Canon and Sprint successfully retrieved shuttle launch images from multiple cameras around the launch pad almost instantaneously, and placed the images on the Reuters wire in record-breaking time, giving Reuters photo clients a competitive edge.

Historically, photographers were forced to wait for hours after lift-off before retrieving their cameras from the launch pad area. The introduction of digital cameras in 2005 reduced the processing time for photos after launch, but not the delay in retrieving equipment. In July 2005 Reuters took up the challenge of securing digital images from the remote cameras in real-time, and was able to accomplish the task by working with Canon and Sprint.

Wireless internet access, compliments of Sprint, allows the cameras to be placed in any location near the launch pad and still be connected to a high-speed internet network. Using a special, provided antenna to connect to the closet cell tower, the digital images were sent from all four Canon EOS cameras at over 500 mps.

"Reuters picture-clients now have near-instantaneous access to images that for 55 years have taken hours to receive and transmit," said Gary Hershorn, News Pictures Editor, North America, Reuters. "We have been delighted to work with both Canon and Sprint, who have brought to the project much time, effort and expertise."

"Thanks to our camera and camera transmitter combination, we offer the capability of retrieving pictures from our cameras in seconds rather then hours," said Yuichi Ishizuka, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "The Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR, EOS 1D Mark III Digital SLR, EOS 1Ds Mark III Digital SLR and EOS 1D Mark IIN Digital SLR Cameras and the variety of short telephoto lenses used to demonstrate the traditions of imaging excellence and extend the boundaries of technological ease that is always at the heart of the Canon brand."

Leon Frazier, Senior Vice resident of Enterprise and Public Sector at Sprint, added, "this innovative new approach to providing shuttle launch images to the world in an instant is a perfect example of our vision of delivering information at SprintSpeedTM. The power of Sprint Mobile Broadband enables connectivity virtually wherever and whenever internet access is required."

Utilizing a uniquely designed transmitter from Canon and newly Reuter developed picture-editing software from Reuters exclusive product Paneikon, Reuters editing computers now receive images just minutes after a shuttle's launch directly from the cameras, thus providing clients with images two-three hours before its competitors.

Plans are on the horizon to use remote imaging capture technology more extensively for coverage at the Kennedy Space Center and in various other areas where using a "live" remote camera can put Reuters far ahead of the competition.

Sprint Enhances Networks, Expands Coverage Throughout Connecticut HARTFORD, Conn.--March 10, 2008--Sprint (Ncustomers throughout Connecticut can enjoy the benefits of speed with Sprint in more places than ever. During 2007, Sprint added 36 new cell sites to its Nationwide Sprint Network and Nextel National Network statewide.

"Sprint is constantly working to enhance and expand its networks throughout Connecticut and across the country," said Maureen Link, area vice president for Sprint. "Sprint offers customers the largest voice calling area, the nation's largest mobile broadband network, the world's fastest push-to talk network and the largest push-to-talk community. This gives our customers the ability and tools they need to stay in touch with their family, friends and business associates on the go."

Sprint customers in the Connecticut area can take advantage of the recent enhancements at the following key locations in the market:

• Bridgeport • Bristol • Colchester • Danbury • Dayville • East Windsor • Greenwich • Litchfield • Manchester • Middletown • New Fairfield • New Haven • North Franklin • Norwalk • Old Lyme • Roxbury • Shelton • Sherman • Southbury • Stamford • Suffield • Trumbull • Weston • Waterbury • Woodbridge

"Sprint continues to make great strides in network performance, and nationally, Sprint's wireless networks are performing at best-ever levels," Link said. "We continue to invest in Connecticut and work aggressively to ensure Sprint customers have the enhanced networks they want and need."

Nationally during 2007, Sprint added more than 4,000 cell sites to the Nationwide Sprint Network and Nextel National Network. Internal performance metrics show double-digit percent improvement year-over-year for dropped and blocked calls on both the Nationwide Sprint Network and Nextel National Network. For the Nextel National Network, customer issues related to dropped and blocked calls, and voice quality, have decreased more than 60 percent from December 2006 to December 2007.

Additionally, Sprint offers the nation's largest mobile broadband network. And, the vast majority of the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network has been upgraded to faster EV-DO Rev. A technology.

Sprint Delivers First EV-DO Rev. A-Capable Handset with Enhancements for the Mogul(TM) by HTC

Sprint Delivers First EV-DO Rev. A-Capable Handset with Enhancements for the Mogul(TM) by HTC OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--March 10, 2008--Today Sprint announced that it is offering the industry's first EV-DO Rev. A-capable handset as part of a software upgrade available for the Mogul(TM) by HTC. Introduced in June 2007, the Mogul is a Windows Mobile(R) device operating on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and is packed with advanced wireless capabilities to keep users productive and connected for personal and professional reasons - all at SprintSpeed(TM). The new software ROM and downloading instructions are available at www.america.htc.com/mogulupdate.

EV-DO Rev. A technology supports faster data rates and higher system capacity enabling users to send and receive large amounts of data at broadband speeds (speeds comparable to basic DSL). Wherever EV-DO Rev. A coverage is available, average download speeds will increase from 400-700 Kbps to 600 Kbps-1.4 Mbps and average upload speeds will increase from 50-70 Kbps to 350-500 Kbps. These increased data speeds provide customers the instant gratification of quickly downloading large e-mail files on their phone while in a taxi cab, finishing and sending the sales report before their plane takes off and wirelessly downloading music to listen to directly from a Sprint handset. Because Sprint embraces an open approach to mobile Web access, customers may access the Web sites of their choice and download third party applications to enjoy anytime, anywhere. The Sprint Mobile Broadband Network (inclusive of data roaming) reaches more than 234 million people, 13,453 cities and 1,321 airports, with the vast majority upgraded to the faster EV-DO Rev. A technology.

Besides enabling increased data speeds for e-mail, Web, document management and other tasks, the free software download also provides advanced GPS functionality allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation. Sprint Navigation provides audio and visual turn-by-turn directions, more than 10 million local listings, and one-click traffic rerouting on compatible phones, similar to an in-vehicle GPS system.

"The Mogul by HTC now delivers the full power of the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network from the convenience of a handset, giving our customers a speed and capacity advantage unavailable anywhere else in the marketplace," said Danny Bowman, vice president of customer equipment for Sprint. "Besides accessing core capabilities like calendar management, contact lists, personal and corporate email, and viewing documents, customers can use the benefits of SprintSpeed to stay connected, informed and entertained at anytime."

The enhanced capabilities of the Mogul combined with Sprint's recently launched $99.99 Simply Everything pricing plan delivers undeniable value to Sprint customers. The $99.99 Simply Everything plan offers customers unlimited voice and data and is available for any Sprint or Nextel Direct Connect handset. Pricing complexity and concerns about overage charges are virtually eliminated letting customers think more about how they can use their wireless device for work and play and less about their bill. For families, Simply Everything includes an incremental $5 discount for each incremental line, up to five lines on the same bill. For example, two lines would amount to $194.98 ($99.99 + $94.99); a third line would cost an additional $89.99. This is in sharp contrast to the multi-line savings offered by some other carriers. Existing Sprint customers can switch to the "Simply Everything" plan without extending their current contract. New line activations require a two-year agreement.

The Mogul continues to be a premium Windows Mobile device in the Sprint device portfolio replicating the familiar Windows PC-based experience and utilizing the Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R) 6 Professional Edition to deliver key benefits including increased security and added support for HTML email and Microsoft Office Mobile. Other key features include:

-- Innovative design with slide-out QWERTY keyboard, large touch screen, a thumbwheel and five-way navigation button.

-- Support for Sprint applications including Sprint Music Store and OnDemand.

-- ActiveSync software allowing fast and accurate synching of Outlook Mobile applications included on the device such as e-mail, calendar, task lists and contacts.

-- Phone as Modem capabilities to use the phone as a wireless modem with a laptop.

-- A 2-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and camcorder capabilities.

-- Stereo Bluetooth wireless technology.

The Mogul(TM) by HTC is available in Sprint Stores, online at www.sprint.com and in Sprint business sales channels for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $100 mail-in-rebate.

Verizon Wireless And Michael Eisner’s Vuguru Introduce “The All-For-Nots” Series On V CAST Video

Verizon Wireless And Michael Eisner’s Vuguru Introduce “The All-For-Nots” Series On V CAST Video BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and BEVERLY HILLS, CA — March 10, 2008 — Verizon Wireless, the builder and owner of the nation’s most reliable wireless voice and data network, and Michael Eisner’s independent new media studio, Vuguru, today announced “The All-For-Nots” will air on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Video service. “The All-For-Nots,” Vuguru’s second original series, will debut tomorrow on V CAST in the Music and Showcase categories on V CAST Video-enabled phones. “The All-For-Nots” program, created by Thom Woodley and Kathleen Grace of Dinosaur Diorama, is an original Internet comedy series that follows a documentary crew filming a fictional indie rock band called “The All-For-Nots” as they travel the U.S. on an under-funded and poorly planned tour. “The All-For-Nots” will visit 24 cities on the band’s U.S. tour during each of the seven- to 10-minute episodes in the series.

“Verizon Wireless’ V CAST service is a clear leader in the mobile video space and partnering with them for the second time on an original Web series was an objective from the very start of this production,” said Michael Eisner. “Short-form video is a popular source of entertainment for young, early adopters of new media, and that feature of ‘The All-For-Nots’ makes it perfect for viewing on a mobile platform.”

Weekly episodes of “The All-For-Nots” series will be available on V CAST Video through August 2008, and will include documentary-style narratives, concert footage from the band, and interviews with fans and special guests.

Customers with select V CAST-enabled phones can check out V CAST whenever they want for just $3.00 for 24-hour use or by signing up for the $15.00 V CAST VPak monthly subscription, which also includes access to Verizon Wireless’ ESPN MVP, Get It Now® and Mobile Web 2.0SM services.
