Axesstel Supplies Zapp With 450 MHz Phones To Provide Affordable Voice And Data To Consumers And Businesses In Romania

Axesstel Supplies Zapp With 450 MHz Phones To Provide Affordable Voice And Data To Consumers And Businesses In Romania SAN DIEGO, Jul 31, 2006 -- Axesstel, Inc., a leader in the design and development of fixed wireless voice and broadband data products, today announced it has supplied Zapp, the leading 450 MHz band CDMA2000 operator in Romania, with its P450 Fixed Wireless Desktop Phone. Zapp successfully launched the phone nationwide in Romania as the Z1130 in late June 2006.

The Z1130 is being bundled with the Zapp FixTel service offering, a superior alternative to fixed telephony, which provides immediate and affordable voice and data services to businesses and consumers in rural Romania. Designed with a high intensity antenna, the Z1130 enables network connectivity in remote areas where other mobile devices cannot maintain a signal. The Z1130 is pre-provisioned to automatically authenticate with the Zapp network, providing instant availability to voice and data services in areas where no landline service is available or where long waits exist for a connection from a fixed line service provider.

"We saw a lack of landline telecommunications service in rural areas of Romania and a demand for affordable voice and data service in residential and business markets. Currently, customers are enduring a long wait to get connected in areas where fixed line service is available," said Mr. Piermario Di Pietro, general manager for Zapp. "Our 450 MHz band CDMA2000 network enables broad coverage with fewer cell cites, which allows us to pass on savings to our customers. The plug-and-play functionality of the Axesstel fixed wireless phone, bundled with our FixTel service, offers subscribers affordable voice and data service through one device and the convenience of service without the wait."

"Gaining Zapp as a valued customer enables us to penetrate Eastern Europe and build on the success we've had in the 450 MHz market in Asia. The 450 MHz market has proven to be very important for us and presents a competitive advantage to our customers," said Marv Tseu, chief executive officer for Axesstel. "We continue to experience demand from operators worldwide for our 450 MHz products and anticipate this market to play a key role as we strive towards further growth and profitability."

The Z1130 also has enhanced features including short messaging service (SMS), call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calling and access to data at speeds up to 153.6 kbps through a USB connection. The Z1130 is currently available through Zapp shops and its nationwide network of dealers.

Zapp has over 400,000 subscribers on its nationwide 450 MHz band CDMA2000 network covering 90% of the country, both from the point of view of the territory and number of listed cities throughout Romania.

Music For All: The Next Evolution Of V CAST Music From Verizon Wireless

Music For All: The Next Evolution Of V CAST Music From Verizon Wireless BASKING RIDGE, NJ — July 31, 2006 — Verizon Wireless, the wireless company that’s breaking down barriers in the world of mobile music, announced today the next evolution of V CAST Music. In conjunction with the launch of Chocolate by LG – the highly anticipated mobile music phone that is taking the world by storm – Verizon Wireless announced today that its customers have everything they need to have an extraordinary V CAST Music experience, including access to more than 1.3 million songs, a full line of music accessories that includes a 2GB microSDTM card that can hold up to 1,000 songs, the elimination of the V CAST VPak monthly charge for its V CAST Music customers and the ability to play their mp3 files with V CAST Music.

Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music is the world’s most comprehensive, over-the-air mobile music download service, and the new V CAST Music-enabled Chocolate by LG is this year’s must-have mobile music device. With its sleek slider design, powerful speaker and dedicated music keys for easy access to V CAST Music, Chocolate is the perfect choice for Verizon Wireless customers that want to maximize their music experience. With Chocolate, customers can browse, preview, download and play high-quality digital music from the V CAST Music catalog that boasts more than 1.3 million songs from thousands of artists from top labels and independent providers.

In an effort to give its customers unfettered access to the best mobile music service in the nation, Verizon Wireless has eliminated the need for customers to subscribe to the V CAST VPak for $15 per month to use V CAST Music. Now, anyone with a V CAST Music-enabled phone can pay-as-they-go to download songs on their phone for $1.99 per song plus airtime, download songs to their Windows XP® PC for as little as $0.99 and transfer their existing compatible digital music collection to their V CAST Music-enabled phone or memory card for free from their PC. Purchases from the phone include two copies of every song – one for the phone and one for the Windows XP PC. In addition, V CAST Music customers with Chocolates can listen to their existing mp3 files, a new functionality enabled by new V CAST Music software on the phone.

John Harrobin, vice president of marketing and digital media for Verizon Wireless, said “Verizon Wireless is launching the next phase of V CAST Music with the exclusive launch of Chocolate by LG that marries breakthrough industrial design and music functionality with the best of a wireless phone. With the new V CAST Music pay-as-you-go pricing structure, Verizon Wireless’ millions of customers with V CAST Music-enabled phones can now call their music whenever the urge strikes, giving them easy access to mobile music.”

Chocolate by LG and V CAST Music from Verizon Wireless have changed the mobile music landscape, offering music customers the ability to personalize their music – either by selecting full-track downloads, ring tones, Ringback Tones, music videos and more – and play their music for others. Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music runs on Verizon Wireless’ broadband network.

With the launch of Chocolate and enhancements to V CAST Music, artists can reach a larger, targeted and more engaged audience than ever before with traditional media, such as television and radio. Artists including the Fugees, Shakira, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Sean Paul and Nelly Furtado have selected Verizon Wireless to give their fans unprecedented exclusives because they recognize that mobile music can bring their music to fans quickly and offers a unique opportunity to promote their music. For example, in March 2006, Verizon Wireless unveiled the simultaneous world premiere of the full-length song, music video, ring tone, Ringback Tone, wallpaper and behind-the-scenes footage of the video shoot for “Hips Don’t Lie,” the song that marked the unique collaboration of global artists Shakira and Wyclef Jean. The “Hips Don’t Lie” single and other content became available for purchase exclusively on V CAST – two months prior to being sold at any Web retailer, music store or other music distribution channel. Immediately after the Verizon Wireless exclusive of “Hips Don’t Lie” was over, the single jumped to number one and continues to break records.

Harrobin continued, “V CAST Music lets artists get their music in the palms of their fans’ hands quickly – while driving traditional music sales rather than cannibalizing them – and lets their fans choose the ways they want to personalize their music experience. With the combination of artist exclusives, true mobile music players such as Chocolate, and the immediacy of V CAST Music, we are now way beyond ring tones and Ringback Tones on phones.”

Chocolate by LG is available today for $149.99 after a $50 instant rebate and new two-year customer agreement online at www.verizonwireless.com and will be available in more than 2,100 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores including those within Circuit City on August 7 for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and new two-year customer agreement. V CAST Music songs cost as little as $0.99 if purchased from the PC or $1.99 if purchased and downloaded over the air onto a V CAST Music phone. The compatible microSD memory cards that can hold up to 1,000 songs are available for $99.99 online and at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores.

QUALCOMM And Indonesia's Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Bring Voice And Data Access To Rural Areas Of Lampung, Indonesia

QUALCOMM And Indonesia''s Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Bring Voice And Data Access To Rural Areas Of Lampung, Indonesia LAMPUNG, INDONESIA — July 21, 2006 — QUALCOMM Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the program launch of the QUALCOMM Wireless Reach™ initiative in Way Kanan, Lampung.

QUALCOMM worked with Sampoerna Telekom (STI), Axesstel Inc., IndoNet, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the State Ministry for the Accelerated Development of Disadvantaged Regions to introduce CDMA450 wireless technology into Way Kanan, giving the area access to broadband wireless voice and data services. The cornerstone of the program is the establishment of computer laboratories with Internet access in five high schools in Way Kanan: Buay Bahuga; Negeri Besar; Negara Batin; Rebang Tangkas; and Pakuan Ratu. In addition, cellular kiosks or "warsels" are being established in 59 villages and in the five high schools to provide increased access to telecommunications. In April, QUALCOMM announced a similar initiative in Pacitan, East Java.

"Today's launch of the QUALCOMM Wireless Reach initiative in Lampung demonstrates the Company's continued commitment to providing greater access to wireless technology in underserved communities, and we are proud to work with the Indonesian government and leading companies to help connect the citizens of Lampung," said Shawn A. Covell, senior director, International Government Affairs, QUALCOMM. "We are confident that greater access to wireless technology will enable better communication in rural communities and ultimately improve the lives of its residents, both economically and socially."

CDMA450 provides an efficient wireless telecommunications solution by offering wide coverage, superior voice quality and high-speed data services. According to the CDMA Development Group, CDMA450 networks are now deployed in 35 countries around the world and additional networks will soon be launched or are undergoing trials. In Southeast Asia, commercial CDMA450 networks have already been deployed in Indonesia (by STI), Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

"This innovative project serves as a model for how the government can partner with the private sector to address Indonesia's challenges in providing telecommunications for rural and underserved communities. We appreciate companies like QUALCOMM, Sampoerna Telekom, IndoNet and Axesstel for their initiative and support," said Sofyan Djalil, Minister for Information and Communication Technology.

"Increasing rural teledensity in Indonesia, particularly in what we call underdeveloped regions, is one of the top priorities of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration. This project in Way Kanan is a creative effort on the part of the private sector to support the government's program to increase access to telecommunications and other services in these areas," added Saifullah Jusuf, State Minister for the Accelerated Development of Disadvantaged Regions.

"Sampoerna Telekom is pleased to be a part of this initiative. CDMA450 is an ideal telecommunications solution for Indonesia, especially given the country's uniquely challenging terrain in rural areas," said Michael Sampoerna, president director, Sampoerna Telekom. "STI believes that CDMA450 is an excellent proposition for the provision of wireless voice and data services in this region."

"Axesstel contributed our D450 broadband modems to the Way Kanan project to enable the high schools' computer laboratories to wirelessly connect to email and the Internet over STI's 450 MHz band CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network at speeds up to 2.4 Mbps," said Marv Tseu, chief executive officer for Axesstel. "The Way Kanan project is a great example of improving higher level education in rural communities, and we look forward to partnering with other organizations in underserved regions to further extend voice and broadband data access through QUALCOMM's Wireless Reach initiative."

QUALCOMM's Wireless Reach initiative seeks to connect communities that have limited or no telecommunications access through the use of 3G technologies. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen economic and social development with a focus on education, government, healthcare and public safety. Wireless Reach creates sustainable 3G projects through partnerships with non-government organizations, universities, government institutions, development agencies and other private sector companies.

Kyocera And Movistar Announce New Slider Jet™ Multimedia EV-DO Cell Phone With High-Speed Internet Connection Capability

Kyocera And Movistar Announce New Slider Jet™ Multimedia EV-DO Cell Phone With High-Speed Internet Connection Capability Caracas - (July 20, 2006) - Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones and devices, today announced along with Movistar the introduction of the Kyocera Slider Jet™ KX18 into the Venezuelan market. The new handset is Kyocera's first cell phone designed with 1xEV-DO wireless access for high-speed Internet connection and offers a broad selection of advanced multimedia features.

Julio Jordan, Kyocera's Regional Manager in Venezuela, explained that the phone, which will be marketed exclusively by Movistar, is Kyocera's first EV-DO phone in the domestic market and the first to be sold by Kyocera Wireless outside of the United States. The introduction of the Slider Jet KX18, which follows on the heels of the Kyocera Passport KPC650 wireless PC card, was designed to meet the growing demand for EV-DO technology in Venezuela. "Kyocera is actually the only mobile-phone manufacturer that makes both EV-DO cards and phones. Our goal is to satisfy the needs of both our operators and end users by delivering reliable devices that offer high-speed Internet capabilities, along with the all the other added-value features our mobile phones are known for," said Jordan.

The Slider Jet KX18 not only offers standard voice-service features, but it is also equipped with a WAP 2.0 browser; a 262,000-color TFT screen for viewing high-resolution images and videos; text messaging (SMS) capabilities; Multimedia messaging (MMS); speakerphone for hands-free talking; a built in music player capable of playing MP3, AAC, MP4, 3GP, and M4A formats; a memory-expansion slot for up to 1 GB; and a VGA camera with a dedicated camera key, flash, digital zoom and video recording with playback. The handset also offers BREW 3.1.3 technology, providing users the ability to download their favorite television programs and video clips from the Internet.

"All these features combine to make the Kyocera Slider Jet KX18 a true technological leader in the mobile phone industry. We are proud to make it available to all Venezuelans," stated Jordan.

Roberto Casado, Movistar's Vice President of Marketing, indicated that with the addition of the Slider Jet KX18, the company is significantly expanding its portfolio of high-technology products. "At Movistar, we focus on maintaining our product lines on the cutting edge. We are constantly evaluating the new product options available and choose only the best in the market to meet our marketing strategies. We are pleased to add the Kyocera Slider Jet KX18 to our portfolio, since it provides a great technological offering to the Venezuelan market."

Kyocera's Jordan emphasized that there is a great demand for EV-DO technology in Venezuela and that the company is proactively responding to this demand through its Slider Jet KX18 and its popular wireless card, the Kyocera Passport KPC650.

Jordan explained, "Since the Passport KPC650 wireless card is compatible with EV-DO and CDMA2000 1x service connections, the card is able to reach a speed of 2.4 Mbps on EV-DO networks, with data-transfer speeds of up to 400-700 Kbps, which is up to 40 times faster than a dial-up connection. Its modem offers 2G data transfer at 14.4 kilobytes per second (Kbps) and 3G data transfer for 1xRTT at speeds up to 143 Kbps."

He also pointed that CDMA cellular technology has been growing significantly in the country. In 2005 alone, more than four-and-a-half million CDMA cell phones were sold, and based on forecasts and present levels of penetration, this market is expected to grow to more than 15 million users before the end of 2006. The latest statistical report on the telecommunications sector from Conatel shows that almost 51% of the Venezuelan population already has a cell phone and that CDMA technology (represented by the two main operators, Movistar and Movilnet) has expanded to more than 85% of the market.

The same thing has happened with EV-DO technology. Its growth has been sustained since 2005, and based on this trend, it is estimated that by 2008 there will be about one million users of this technology in Venezuela and more than 6 million will use it throughout Latin America.

Recently, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) reported that 22 operators in 17 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean have deployed or built CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks. The report reads, "Capitalizing on high-speed data-transfer capabilities, operators have introduced a wide range of broadband services for cell-phone users aimed at various market needs, from internet access in unserved areas to the most advanced applications, such as 3D games and TV. Operators are seeing a significant rise in demand for 1xEV-DO services, with a subscriber growth of 40% per quarter."

KDDI To Develop Integrated Platform For Mobile Phones

KDDI To Develop Integrated Platform For Mobile Phones July 19, 2006 -- KDDI, in collaboration with Qualcomm, Inc., has decided to develop an integrated platform for mobile phones and, in the uniform development of basic software, to encourage commonality among mobile phone manufacturers. The Company aims to strengthen its cost competitiveness in the development of mobile phones, an industry characterized by the continuous advancement and ever-increasing complexity of its software.

In the development of basic applications for mobile Internet, such as browsers and mailers, for its au mobile phones, KDDI conventionally attained commonality of software among various models through the KDDI Common Platform (KCP), using Qualcomm's MSM™ chip set and BREW® as its base.

The new integrated platform is not limited to basic applications, but expands the range of commonality for mobile phone software to almost all areas, including OS and middleware. In addition, KDDI will provide the integrated platform to mobile phone manufacturers, contributing to a reduction in costs and development time. The platform's introduction will also allow mobile phone manufacturers to concentrate development resources on elements that distinguish phones from one another, such as design, user interface and mounted devices.

The integrated platform employs the MSM7500™, a highly efficient single-chip LSI developed by Qualcomm, and is expected to significantly enhance multimedia functions while accelerating response to the EV-DO Rev. A, the latest wireless communications system.

Based on its partnership with Qualcomm, KDDI is collaborating with Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. and Toshiba Corporation on platform development, and will provide the platform to both existing and emerging mobile phone manufacturers.

* CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev.A: Standard that further improved and accelerated the "1xEV-DO system" for au's CDMA 1X WIN mobile phones, enabling data transmission speeds of 3.1 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps for downloads (base station to mobile phone) and uploads (mobile phone to base station), respectively.

* BREW ® and related trademarks are trademarks or registered trademarks of Qualcomm, Inc.
