Axesstel Supplies STI With Fixed Wireless Phones To Expand Access To Voice And Data Services In Indonesia

Axesstel Supplies STI With Fixed Wireless Phones To Expand Access To Voice And Data Services In Indonesia SAN DIEGO & JAKARTA, Indonesia, Feb 28, 2006 -- Axesstel, Inc., a leader in the design and development of fixed wireless voice and broadband data products, today announced it is supplying PT Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Indonesia (STI) with its P450R and L450R fixed wireless phones. STI will offer the phones in conjunction with the expansion of its fixed wireless service to make quality, affordable telecommunication services available to individuals and businesses in urban and rural areas in Indonesia. Shipments of the Axesstel P450R and L450R to STI have already begun.

STI will utilize its expanded 450 MHz band CDMA2000 1X network to re-launch fixed wireless service under the new CERIA brand name. The CERIA service will be launched on March 1, 2006 in the province of Lampung, followed by a launch in the province of Bali a few weeks later. "We evaluated a number of terminal vendors and chose Axesstel for the robust features and quality of the phones at an affordable price," said Harry Santoso, head of sales and marketing for STI. "We needed a strong device manufacturer that understands the fixed wireless market as well as our goals and strategy in the region and Axesstel fit the bill."

The population in Indonesia is over 240 million with a total telecommunications penetration rate of less than 20% including landline and mobile phone lines. Indonesia encompasses over 6,000 inhabited islands, making fixed wireless networks a far superior solution to costly landline networks in terms of physical deployment, capital expenditures for infrastructure and time to market.

"We look forward to providing STI with the high quality fixed wireless devices it needs to increase its reach and meet market demand in Indonesia," said Mike Kwon, chairman and chief executive officer of Axesstel. "Indonesia is one of the largest fixed wireless markets and our new products are enabling us to expand into this region, build our customer base in Asia and increase our addressable market."

The L450R and P450R are designed to accept a removable user identification module (RUIM) that enables operators to streamline the activation process. The rugged, dust-resistant L450R will be targeted for rural areas and as an entry level, low cost phone for first time phone users. The P450R will be offered to subscribers looking for voice and high speed data services for their home or office. When connected to a laptop or desktop computer, the P450R will provide data at speeds up to 153.6 kbps over STI's 450 MHz band, fixed wireless CDMA2000 1X network.

Snap A Photo, Share With Your Clique Using Sprint PCS Picture Mail Groups

Snap A Photo, Share With Your Clique Using Sprint PCS Picture Mail Groups ORLANDO, Fla. at PMA — 02/24/2006 — Sprint will make it easier for customers to share personal media about a favorite hobby, passion or common interest with a select group of friends, family, colleagues or suppliers with the launch of Sprint PCS Picture Mail groups. Sprint PCS Picture Mail subscribers will be able to create an online community about any subject and invite friends with an email address or Sprint phone to add pictures, video clips and text of their own, whenever they want, at no additional cost. Community members can stay on top of the action with instant notification whenever new content gets posted.

Sprint PCS Picture Mail groups, launching in the spring, will be the first picture groups service designed with the mobile phone user in mind, making the sharing of pictures and video clips from a mobile phone to an online community a smooth, hassle-free process.

"As camera phones have become mainstream, wireless phone users are looking for new, creative ways to communicate with pictures," said Pierre Barbeau, general manager of visual communications for Sprint. "Sprint PCS Picture Mail Groups is the next innovation in the mobile imaging evolution, enabling customers to create a forum where they can communicate via pictures, video clips, text messages and audio clips while on the go."

The interest and usage of camera phones continues to grow. According to the Sprint U.S. Consumer Wireless Usage Study, 55 percent of wireless phone users have an interest in using a camera phone. Showing further evidence of the interest in camera phones, 53 percent of camera phone owners take pictures with their phone. The overwhelming majority of these "phone-tographers" (96 percent) use their camera phones for spontaneous pictures; nearly one-third take pictures at family gatherings (32 percent) or of their pets (30 percent), while more than one-quarter (27 percent) snap shots at celebrations or on vacation. Respondents also use their camera phone while shopping (18 percent), at concerts (15 percent) and for business purposes (15 percent).

Sprint is keeping ahead of the demand for mobile imaging applications and improved service by offering industry-leading innovations, including:

Picture messaging across carriers – In February 2004, Sprint was the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer picture messaging interoperability with another carrier, Bell Mobility in Canada. Today, Sprint is interoperable with all major U.S. carriers and three Canadian carriers, making it easier for customers to share their camera phone images with family and friends who have camera phones with other carriers. Millions of picture messages are sent and received between Sprint and other carriers every month. Improved picture quality – Sprint was the first wireless carrier to offer a 1 megapixel camera phone in 2004 and a 2 megapixel camera phone in 2005, and continues to work with handset manufacturers and software developers to improve picture quality. Today, Sprint offers two 2 megapixel camera phones, and five 1 megapixel camera phones.

Easy printing – Sprint offers its customers more picture printing options than any other wireless provider, resulting in millions of pictures being printed at home, at more than 3,000 retail stores nationwide and by mail delivery. Most one and two megapixel camera phones from Sprint also have removable memory cards and PictBridge capabilities, giving consumers even more options to easily move images from camera phones to printers.

The Sprint Picture Store – Customers can share their favorite pictures with family and friends as gifts, such as mugs, mouse pads, postage stamps, magnets, prints and greeting cards. They simply upload digital pictures from their phone or PC and order directly from their Sprint PCS Picture Mail account for delivery to their home.

"Solutions like these are changing the way camera phones are used everyday," Barbeau said. "At first, camera phones were primarily looked at as a fun way to instantly send spontaneous pictures. While camera phones are still widely used this way, people are also using them when they plan to take pictures to stay connected with friends and family and for practical applications such as to comparison shop, for scrap booking, to keep a picture diary and to improve business productivity. Camera phone usage will continue to grow as Picture Mail is integrated with other consumer and business applications that will make sharing, managing, preserving, creating, and presenting more convenient and easier than ever."

Reporters attending the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show can see a demonstration of Sprint PCS Picture Mail services at Sneak Peak on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center, West Building and at Pep Com's Digital Focus from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Walt Disney Dolphin Hotel, 1500 Epcot Resorts Blvd.

The service will be available in other urban centres throughout the region later this year, and by the end of 2007, will be available to approximately 60 per cent of customers in Atlantic Canada.

Aliant conducted a High-Speed Wireless (EV-DO) technology trial over the past few months. The trial provided an opportunity for Aliant to gain valuable information towards enhancing their customers' experience.

"I'm really impressed with the fast speeds and the instant access to my work email and company files," says Rick Varner, President, Offshore-Telecom, and Aliant High-Speed Wireless trial participant. "The service definitely exceeded my expectations and allowed me to do much more in my day."

Nortel is providing equipment and services including EV-DO radio base stations, base station controllers and a variety of professional services to Aliant. The technology will be incorporated seamlessly onto Aliant's existing digital wireless data network.

"Aliant's EV-DO upgrade will effectively transform its wireless network to deliver true mobile broadband services to Atlantic Canadians," said Ken McIver, Major Account Vice President, Nortel. "As a supplier to more than half of the world's commercially-launched EV-DO networks, Nortel has seen the potential this technology has for improving and changing the way people communicate."

Sprint And Global Care Quest Introduce Mobile Access To Patient Data

Sprint And Global Care Quest Introduce Mobile Access To Patient Data San Diego, Calif. — 02/13/2006 — Sprint and Global Care Quest Inc. today made a significant step in the healthcare industry, by announcing their agreement to offer the Integrated Clinical Information System Mobile (ICIS Mobile) solution to healthcare providers. This secure remote solution, available on select Sprint handheld devices and smart phones, delivers critical real-time patient information to intensivists - physicians specializing in the care of intensive care patients - both inside and outside the hospital.

With ICIS Mobile, a physician attending their son's soccer league game can respond instantly to emergencies by accessing complete patient data on their handheld device - delivering the right care, right away.

"Sprint is committed to improving the quality and safety of patient care by providing cutting edge wireless mobility solutions in healthcare and extending the workplace outside of hospitals, thus helping physicians address patient needs instantly," said Bill Montgomery, director of healthcare for Sprint. "Our relationship with Global Care Quest represents the next generation of wireless medical communication. Sprint continues to work with key partners to address the multiple challenges faced by the healthcare industry."

Under this new agreement, ICIS Mobile will be available on select Sprint phones, including the Sprint PCS VisionSM Smart Device PPC-6700. In a typical hospital intensive care unit (ICU) setting physicians have to rely on multiple sources to retrieve patient information, which can be time consuming. With ICIS Mobile, physicians have instant access to comprehensive patient information, securely and remotely, on their handheld devices.

The Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) functionality, available on the Sprint PCS VisionSM Smart Device PPC-6700, provides faster speeds to download data and leverage mobile applications, allowing physicians to respond instantly to emergencies from any location, anytime. Information is presented in a series of clinical windows that include diagnostic images, real-time vital signs, lab results, trend data, patient demographic data, live video feeds, clinical notes, rounding lists and remote bedside monitoring.

"Anytime access to real-time patient information is the key to high-quality and cost-effective patient care, and Global Care Quest is proud to work with Sprint, an industry leader in providing mobility solutions to the healthcare industry," said Cleve Adams, CEO, Global Care Quest. "Our mobile solutions increase patient safety, improve physician mobility and workflow, and substantially reduce the time spent gathering patient information."

The Global Care Quest mobile solution integrates into a hospital's existing clinical information system through wireless networks, accessible on Pocket PC devices, as well as the standard MS Windows-based desktop and tablet computers. Using this mobile solution, physicians have the ability to remotely access and view the operation room and surgical video on their smart phones, thus enabling them to take control of their time, while being more responsive to the needs of their patients. Patient privacy is protected through use of authentication codes and data encryption that meets standards set by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Sprint is showcasing new and emerging solutions for the healthcare industry in San Diego, CA, Feb 12-16, at the 2006 HIMSS Annual Conference, booth number 5301. Solutions will showcase how physicians can mobilize various applications on wireless handheld devices in order to access and capture information at the point of care.

Sprint is dedicated to providing integrated communication solutions that help healthcare providers balance patient care, operational efficiency, cost management and regulatory compliance. Sprint has been offering voice and data services for more than 30 years and has a full data-services portfolio including business-continuity, wireless, wireline, and managed services. In addition, Sprint's strong portfolio of security products and services can also help healthcare organizations address HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) security requirements. Sprint Nextel is widely recognized for developing, engineering and deploying state-of-the-art network technologies, including two robust wireless networks offering reliable, seamless and superior service to its customers and the United States' first nationwide-all-digital, fiber-optic network and an award-winning Tier 1 Internet backbone. ZTE To Expand Mali´s CDMA WLL Network

ZTE To Expand Mali´s CDMA WLL Network February 9, 2006 -- ZTE Corporation, the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is to install the first wireless telecommunications system in Timbouctou, for centuries a by-word for the most remote places on earth.

ZTE has signed an agreement to install Mali´s first Wireless Local Loop (WLL) network for Sotelma, the state owned fix-line telecoms operator, which will expand an existing network in Mali´s capital city Bamako and cover important centres in Mali including Mopti, Segou, Sikasso and Timboutcou. The agreement was signed during the time when China foreign minister Mr. Li Zhaoxing visited Mali and the agreement signing was witnessed by Mali´s telecommunication minister Mr. Gaoussou Darabo and the Chinese ambassador to Mali Mr. Wei Wenhua.

WLL technology provided by ZTE enables a telecoms network to be set up without installing cables, avoiding the construction costs of poles, trenches and cables reaching the home of every potential phone customer.

This network expansion follows the installation by ZTE of a 6000 line CDMA2000 1X WLL in Bamako in 2005. The network will enable homes in Timbouctou to communicate with the worldwide telephone system, removing in one stroke the centuries-old isolation of this town surrounded by hundreds of miles of desert.

"ZTE has brought affordable modern telecommunications to many millions of people who were previously unable to make telephone calls or access the internet. Bringing wireless telecoms to Mali including Timbouctou is just the latest example of this," said Miss Zhang Jie, ZTE´s representative in Mali.

"Mali is a big country with a relatively small population and ZTE´s CDMA WLL technology is ideal for telecommunications networks in environments like this. As China´s largest wireless telecoms equipment exporter, ZTE has extensive experience and proven technology to support Mali´s telecommunication development."

ZTE´s CDMA telecommunications products have successfully entered 60 countries through 100 operators´ network with 30 million lines around the world, becoming one of the Tier one CDMA equipment manufacturers in the world.

CDMA (code division multiple access) technology is a telecommunications technology standard used around the world to enable mobile and wireless communications.

The program allows wireless-phone users to opt in to receive a daily Black History factoid with a link to Sprint's Black History Month Web site, www.sprint.com/blackhistory. Here, users can find additional information on that fact of the day and other compelling narratives about African Americans.

The new service is available via text message to Sprint subscribers on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network and the Nextel Nationwide Network. "This project is innovative to say the least," said Tammy Edwards, director of inclusion and diversity for Sprint. Blair, attorney.

Founder and Executive Director of The HistoryMakers, Julianna Richardson said, "We are enthused about our partnership with Sprint. On our website, we not only feature the more popular Black History makers like Ossie Davis and Marion Wright Edelman, but we also acknowledge lesser known African Americans for the impact they have made as well. Teaming with Sprint is a new and innovative way to tell these stories of success, triumph, and in all cases… stories of inspiration."

"The Sprint 'Moments in Black History' program is our way of demonstrating our commitment to our diverse customer base," added Edwards. "We are the first in the industry to use text messaging to celebrate Black History Month, and we hope to extend this technology to all occasions that celebrate diversity and inclusion."

Verizon Wireless has increased the quality of its wireless network coverage through the airport’s new distributed antenna system. The system has enhanced the Verizon Wireless network’s already strong existing voice and EV-DO data networks with more than 700 antennas throughout the airport providing wireless coverage to more than 5.8 million square-feet.

This state-of-the-art system is an optical fiber-based system that enables the distribution of wireless signals to remote locations to serve more than 240,000 passengers that pass every day through Hartsfield-Jackson. With 86 million travelers having passed through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International in 2005 and more than 55,000 airport employees on-site, this wireless system improves the passenger and employee experience and allows travelers to use their mobile phones virtually anywhere in the airport. Passengers will now be able to stay in touch with improved call clarity and higher data throughput from the ticketing and baggage area to the concourses.

“This technology solution will improve the passenger experience at Atlanta Airport by allowing travelers to use their mobile phones and data devices anywhere in the airport,” said Lance Lyttle, CIO, Department of Aviation, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. “The strong and reliable network offered by the in-building distributed antenna system makes the airport a premier launching pad for these next generation technologies.”

Jim McGean, regional president for Verizon Wireless, said: “At Verizon Wireless, we are squarely focused on exceeding our customer expectations and delivering the nation’s best, most reliable wireless network. We are thrilled to work with Hartsfield-Jackson Airport to bring this important, advanced wireless network to those who travel through the airport.”
