Radiomóvel Deploys Telespree Communication’s Self-Service Activation Technology

Radiomóvel Deploys Telespree Communication’s Self-Service Activation Technology San Francisco, CA. November 30, 2005 - Telespree Communications, the leading developer of self-service solutions for wireless carriers, today announced the deployment of its automated instant activation solution with Radiomóvel, the leading CDMA operator in Portugal, known by the brand Zapp. Specialized telecommunications provider Radiomóvel recently launched their mobile broadband CDMA product in retail channels.

“Telespree’s innovative software solution significantly improves our activation processes, and is critical to our ability to rapidly deliver new wireless voice and data applications for our network,” said Pedro Coelho, Radiomóvel’s IT Director. “Automating the account set-up process, specifically the device activation process, is essential to providing a good customer experience.”

Radiomóvel deployed Telespree technology for first time activation of new wireless voice and data devices without customer care intervention. Customers purchase the mobile device off-the-shelf and complete the account establishment process when they first turn on the equipment, as the device is automatically programmed and activated without manual inputs. The initial mobile devices launched are the Flextronics Z010 EV-DO data modem, the Ubiquam Z315i PTT phone, and the Wide Telecom Z110 mobile phone.

“Today’s mobile operators expect efficient solutions that will enable them to reduce costs, increase customer service levels, and accelerate wireless adoption rates,” said Ellen Schwab, vice president for sales and business development for Telespree. “The Telespree self-service solution helps Radiomóvel achieve these goals through account set-up automation, thus eliminating manual device programming processes.“

Telespree’s self-service solution streamlines wireless activation and provisioning of voice and data devices. Using the 3G wireless data network, the Telespree platform delivers secure authentication and over-the-air (OTA) device programming and activation to any non-active wireless device without customer care or manual inputs, prior to OSS set-up. The self-service platform allows operators to offer 100% automated activation and account set-up to customers and retail channels, resulting in significantly lower customer support costs.

New 027 Coverage In Kaiteriteri

New 027 Coverage In Kaiteriteri November 22, 2005 -- Telecom is investing $500,000 to bring improvements to 027mobile coverage in Kaiteriteri.

The increased coverage will benefit local residents and businesses, as well as the many tourists who visit the area.

Telecom Acquisition Project Manager Kellie Ralfe said the new site is being established in response to interest from the local Kaiteriteri community.

Construction work is set to start this week and the site should be up and running by Christmas.

A temporary mobile site was removed from the Kaiteriteri camp ground earlier this year. The temporary equipment had been in place for more than two years while Telecom looked unsuccessfully for suitable property on which to build a permanent site.

”We then got a lot of feedback from locals who wanted coverage, so we re-opened the search for a property for a mobile site”, Ms Ralfe said.

In conjunction with the Tasman District Council and the Kaiteriteri Recreational Reserve Board (KRRB), Telecom found a site on reserve land on a hill known as the “ridgeline”. As part of the resource consent process for this site Telecom has obtained the written consent of the KRRB, Department of Conservation and local Iwi.

“Telecom wants to thank the residents and businesses of Kaiteriteri, the Council and KRRB for their support throughout this process.

We hope our customers will be pleased with the improved coverage the new site will bring to this area,” Ms Ralfe said.

Telecom Namibia Signs CDMA Development Deal With Huawei

Telecom Namibia Signs CDMA Development Deal With Huawei November 18, 2005 -- Telecom Namibia today signed a contract with Huawei for the piloting of a rural wireless local loop telecommunications system, popularly known as CDMA2000. Under the contract, Huawei Technologies will provide Telecom Namibia with CDMA network equipment for pilot implementation in Otjiwarongo for over a three months period.

The agreement was signed by the Telecom MD Frans Ndoroma and Mr. Sky Peng, General Manager of Huawei Telecommunication Technologies Namibia, in Windhoek this morning.

According to Mr. Jason Lin, Product Manager of Huawei Regional Division in Southern Africa, the equipment would arrive in Namibia by the end of December this year. The pilot project is expected to connect 1000 customers and will run over three consecutive billing cycles.

CDMA2000 1x technology represents one step above current second generation (2G) CDMA and is generally referred to as a 2.5G technology. It allows data transmission at speeds up to 153K bps (bits per second) and is backwards-compatible with earlier CDMA technology, making it easy to upgrade for both carriers and consumers.

Telecom Namibia selected Huawei Technologies for its capability to provide not only advanced CDMA equipment and end to end solutions, but also quickly-responsive technical support service.

"We are deeply grateful to Telecom Namibia for trusting our company and selecting Huawei as their strategic partner to build the CDMA network." said Mr. Sky Peng. "We will finish the job and enable the Namibian people to enjoy CDMA products and services.”

On his part, Mr. Ndoroma expressed his delight that the CDMA project is finally kicking off and urged both parties to ensure on-time completion of the pilot phase.

“The country is waiting for this project to kick-off. The news about the CDMA project has reached many of our customers. The signing of this agreement augers well for future relations between Telecom Namibia and Huawei,” said Mr. Ndoroma.

Currently, Huawei`s CDMA products have been deployed in more than 50 countries by over 70 carriers, including developed markets of Portugal and the United States, and have been serving 17 million users across the globe. With its rapid growth in the CDMA field, Huawei Technologies has become one of the major CDMA suppliers in the world.

Verizon Wireless Introduces New Field Communications Solution For Enterprise Customers

Verizon Wireless Introduces New Field Communications Solution For Enterprise Customers BEDMINSTER, NJ and BELLEVUE, WA — November 17, 2005 — Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless service provider, and Wireless Services Corporation today announced the availability of the iTXT Enterprise Messaging Service, allowing Verizon Wireless' enterprise customers to communicate more efficiently and effectively with their mobile employees. Using iTXT, Verizon Wireless business customers can deliver mission critical messages up to 500 characters long directly and simultaneously to the text messaging-enabled wireless handsets of their field employees.

iTXT Enterprise Messaging allows enterprises to focus on the delivery of critical, time sensitive communications required for dispatch of field service personnel, sales force automation, IT monitoring and alarming and financial services. iTXT also delivers wireless alerts from existing CRM and ERP systems and other communications applications.

iTXT translates major messaging protocols (including SNPP, WCTP and TAP) into TXT Messages, delivers these messages simultaneously to one or more handsets and then provides a confirmation when messages are delivered successfully. To further meet the needs of Verizon Wireless enterprise customers, iTXT Messages can be 500 characters in length rather than the 160-character limit of standard TXT Messaging, and can be used immediately after activation by most TXT Messaging-capable phones in use today.

Additionally, iTXT uses a Web-based message control center to compose, dispatch, track and view responses, making it easier for companies to use TXT Messages. The service secures enterprise messaging within Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to and from the enterprise, and a virtual private network (VPN) connection to the wireless network.

“Wireless Services Corporation designed iTXT as the next evolution in messaging that delivers a reliable and scalable service,” said Rich Begert, president and CEO of Wireless Services Corporation. “This solution gives Verizon Wireless business customers another tool to enhance their field communications.”

iTXT is available to Verizon Wireless enterprise customers for $7.95 monthly access per handset with standardized discounts for volume, and a one-time fee to connect each employee to the service. Motorola Showcases Seamless Mobility Capability Using CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A Solution At 3G World Congress & Exhibition 2005

Motorola Showcases Seamless Mobility Capability Using CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A Solution At 3G World Congress & Exhibition 2005 HONG KONG - 3G World Congress – 16 November 2005 – Motorola Inc. unveiled its prototype CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A solution at 3G World Congress and Exhibition 2005, demonstrating some of the advanced multimedia wireless broadband services that will be possible with this next generation technology. With downlink speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps and uplink speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps, CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A provides new capability for operators to offer enhanced services such as simultaneous video, voice and data applications. These new services can help wireless operators earn incremental revenue, reach new user segments and compete with those services offered by other broadband providers.

At its booth (# 1721), Motorola is featuring live Voice over IP (VoIP) and video telephony calls, two applications that are optimized for commercial service on a CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A network due to the higher bandwidth, lower data latency, and improved quality of service inherent with the technology. The demonstration uses Motorola’s prototype CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A solution and Motorola’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), (referred to as Multimedia Domain (MMD) by the 3GPP2), to demonstrate simultaneous video telephony calls using Motorola’s Ojo™ Personal Video Phone, VoIP, and video downloads from a media server. Test modems from Qualcomm provide the CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A link to a Motorola base station equipped with a CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A channel card.

“Motorola’s all-IP CDMA architecture is ready to support Rev. A, and our integrated radio access network solution lets operators leverage their existing investment as they make the migration to this new technology,” said Bruce Stone, senior vice president, Cellular Networks, Motorola. “Our CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A solution is another addition to Motorola’s growing portfolio of broadband access and core solutions, mobile devices, and services that will enable converged services and seamless mobility.”

CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A is an enhancement to CDMA 1xEV-DO mobile broadband access that combines voice and data on a single carrier, decreasing the burden of operating separate networks for circuit voice and packet data. This not only increases voice capacity, but also enables multiple concurrent data links. Motorola’s 1xEV-DO system, in service with operators in Brazil, Thailand, and the United States, can be migrated to Rev. A with hardware and software upgrades. Motorola’s CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A solution is planned for commercial availability in 2006.

Tensorcomm, Inc. Announces Significant Enhancements To Its ICT™ Solution DENVER, November 16, 2005 — TensorComm, (www.tensorcomm.com) a wireless technology company, whose interference cancellation core improves the performance of CDMA2000® and WCDMA terminals and allows operators to increase network capacity and utilize their spectrum more efficiently, announced today the availability of the next generation of its interference cancellation technology that will apply to CDMA2000 (1X and 1xEV-DO) and WCDMA (including HSDPA) networks.

The enhancement is specifically optimized to address a fully loaded code space; a condition often seen in EV-DO systems and at base stations on 2.5G and 3G networks. Further, it is also completely compatible with 1X, WCDMA and HSDPA networks, where the code space is not always fully utilized.

TensorComm’s patented Interference Cancellation Technology (ICT™) delivers a cost-effective, easily deployable CDMA and WCDMA component that fits in a mobile device without requiring form factor changes or radio frequency (RF) redesign. The previous version of ICT successfully completed operator commercial network field trials and yielded an average gain of 1.97 dB. It is well recognized that a 1.25 dB gain will provide an operator with a 40% increase in capacity, coverage and data throughput. With these latest improvements, average gains are now expected in the 2.5 - 4.0dB range. Field evaluations on both EV-DO and HSDPA networks will be conducted in the first quarter of 2006.

Given the relatively low cost of this technology compared to other commonly considered spectral efficiency tools, the operator community now has a viable option to deploy across the entire range of handsets, rather than just the high end where other solutions can be cost justified. TensorComm has also recently demonstrated additive gains when their technology is deployed in conjunction with other solutions, such as Mobile Receive Diversity.

“Our R&D investment in interference cancellation continues to produce hardware-efficient solutions for CDMA and WCDMA,” said Dr. Louis Scharf, Chief Scientist of TensorComm. “Today our engineering team announces a breakthrough in ICT™ that increases handset performance and network efficiency for voice and data networks, where the code space is heavily or fully loaded, and the channel is complex. This breakthrough solves an immediate problem for wireless networks and identifies a clear development path for continuing enhancements.”

“With the aggressive deployments of data centric wireless networks around the world, Carriers will be sharply focused on providing a superior customer experience,” said John Thomas, CEO and founder of TensorComm. “This latest round of improvements to our technology will allow customers to enjoy much higher data rates and more consistent coverage when using streaming applications. This provides wireless carriers the flexibility to improve network capacity, coverage and service quality while enhancing Internet services for high-end data users.

The network will be used to provide roaming voice and mobile high-speed data services such as high-quality video-on-demand (VoD), downloading of large files, and Internet and intranet access at speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second to the growing number of tourists and business people that visit the Bahamas each year.

The Lucent-supplied CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO network will be deployed on the islands of New Providence, Grand Bahamas, Bimini, Eleuthera and Exuma covering the main towns, hotels, resorts and airports with voice and mobile high-speed data services.

"We are very proud to have won this project based on strong customer relationships, product quality, dedicated support and perseverance,” said Heidy Frank, Lucent's regional sales director for the Caribbean. "We feel that this is the beginning of a long and very fruitful business relationship with BTC. We'll continue to work closely with BTC to ensure the successful completion of the network and provide them the required support as they roll out new 3G services. Lucent’s solution provides BTC with a cost-effective and easy way to manage the network and introduce new capabilities and services.”

Lucent’s Network Solutions Group is dedicated to helping wireline, mobile and converged service providers capture the market opportunities being created by the growing demand for “blended lifestyle” services. A global leader in the development of commercial 3G spread-spectrum solutions, Lucent's Network Solutions Group has deployed CDMA2000 and W-CDMA/UMTS networks with more than 35 customers on the continents of North and South America, Asia, Europe and in the Australia/New Zealand region. Airvana To Demonstrate 1xEV-DO Revision A At 2005 3G World Congress And Exhibition, Hong Kong

Airvana To Demonstrate 1xEV-DO Revision A At 2005 3G World Congress And Exhibition, Hong Kong Hong Kong, November 15, 2005 — Airvana, Inc. (www.airvananet.com), a market leader in CDMA2000 1xEV-DO radio access network infrastructure, today announced it will demonstrate 1xEV-DO Revision A and advanced 1xEV-DO multimedia services such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Multicasting at the 2005 3G World Congress and Exhibition. With the goal of enabling mobile broadband everywhere, these features will accelerate the delivery of innovative 3G services to consumers and mobile professionals. Airvana technology now powers 16 of the world’s most dynamic commercial EV-DO networks.

The 3G World Congress and Exhibition takes place November 14-18, 2005, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Airvana’s CEO, Randy Battat, will speak on the advantages of VoIP to operators, and CTO Vedat Eyuboglu will speak about the role of EV-DO broadcast and multicast in enabling mobile television. Airvana is located at booth #1021.

With over 18 million subscribers, 1xEV-DO is the world's leading 3G wireless technology. The advanced features on showcase will extend 1xEV-DO's lead over competing 3G technologies. By delivering these features to service providers, Airvana dramatically reduces the cost of delivering compelling mobile multimedia services to handsets and enables rapid adoption of 3G wireless technology.

“1xEV-DO is generating billions of dollars of additional revenue for CDMA operators worldwide and gives CDMA operators a competitive edge against other operators”, said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana, “1xEV-DO Revision A extends this lead by being the first 3G technology to offer carrier-grade, high-capacity VoIP.”

Airvana's 2005 3G World Congress and Exhibition demonstrations will include:

• CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision-A -- Rev-A provides the underlying technology to support new applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP), push-to-talk, push-to-multimedia, and video telephony. One of the key benefits of Rev-A is the 3-4x increase in uplink speeds. Since UMTS will not support a faster uplink until HSUPA is available, Rev-A will give CDMA operators a 2+ year advantage over UMTS operators. In addition, Rev-A is fully backward compatible with EV-DO Revision 0. With EV-DO Rev-A, service providers can seamlessly upgrade their networks to expand service offerings to deliver higher speed connections to their customer base.

• Voice over IP (VoIP) – VoIP over 1xEV-DO will allow service providers to reduce their costs by converging their voice and data networks into one All-IP network, and to enhance their revenues by enabling the fast introduction of new services such as feature-rich voice, fixed-mobile convergence and high-performance push-to-talk.

• Broadcast and Multicast Service -- Airvana will demonstrate how operators can efficiently deliver rich multimedia content such as movie clips, news and sporting events simultaneously to a large number of mobile devices. Subscribers can either view live content or the content can be cached on the mobile device for later viewing.

In addition to the live demonstrations, on Thursday November 17th, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Airvana’s CEO, Randy Battat, will be a panelist on the plenary keynote session on network infrastructure, wireless devices and semiconductor initiatives; he will speak about the competitive advantages VoIP gives CDMA operators. Airvana’s CTO, Vedat Eyuboglu, will be a panelist on Thursday’s Track 4 program (2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.) on the role of broadcast and multicast in mobile TV and video streaming services.

Service providers are deploying CDMA2000 1xEV-DO worldwide as a high-speed mobile data service for cell phones, PDAs and laptops. It is flexible enough to support mobile multimedia applications or act as a low-cost, fixed wireless broadband data service. 1xEV-DO can be deployed very inexpensively, either by upgrading an existing base station with a channel card or by overlaying the existing network with low cost CDMA2000 1xEV-DO base stations.

TELUS Mobility Introduces National Wireless High Speed Network

TELUS Mobility Introduces National Wireless High Speed Network Scarborough, ON, November 14, 2005 - TELUS Mobility today launched its national Wireless High Speed Network, offering clients in five major urban centres across Canada access to the Internet, e-mail servers and other data networks at speeds at least six times faster than previous mobile data services.

Broadband data speeds

Wireless High Speed offers clients the broadband data access they've become accustomed to on their desktops, but now they can take that speed on the road. With typical download speeds of 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and possible speeds of more than 2 megabytes per second, TELUS Mobility's Wireless High Speed network offers clients the speed they need for powerful mobile computing applications.

"By uniting the broadband access speeds of our Wireless High Speed network with the newest portable computing products, TELUS Mobility is providing clients across Canada with the most powerful mobile data solution available today," said Wade Oosterman, TELUS Mobility's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

TELUS Mobility plans to extend Wireless High Speed service to other urban centres in 2006. TELUS Connection Manager Software also offers built-in acceleration software that can increase data access speeds by two to three times on Wireless High Speed or 1X data networks through data compression. TELUS Connection Manager software is available for download by clients at telusmobility.com/connectionmanager.

Wireless High Speed data products

TELUS Mobility has a wide variety of Wireless High Speed data devices available now and in the near future. All are "backward compatible" with the ability to operate on TELUS Mobility's national 1X data network, which covers more than 90% of the Canadian population, when outside Wireless High Speed coverage areas.

TELUS Mobility Enhances Global Roaming With New Mobile Communications Solutions

TELUS Mobility Enhances Global Roaming With New Mobile Communications Solutions Scarborough, ON, November 9 2005 - TELUS Mobility today announced the availability of two new mobile and global communications solutions: the Motorola A840 World Phone, operating on both Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Global System for Mobile (GSM) networks, and a GSM Global Roaming Card that lets TELUS Mobility postpaid PCS clients enhance their international roaming capabilities.

"With the addition of Motorola's powerful and versatile World Phone and our affordable new Global Roaming Card, we've greatly extended the ability of TELUS Mobility clients to roam the world," said Wade Oosterman, TELUS Mobility's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Combined with our enhanced global roaming agreements, these devices let TELUS Mobility clients make and take calls or send and receive text messages in more than 120 countries worldwide, including the international destinations most popular with Canadians - the United Kingdom, France, Hong Kong, China, Dominican Republic, Australia, Italy, Germany and Spain."

CDMA, used by the most subscribers and employed by the largest wireless carriers in North America, has become the dominant wireless network technology in Canada and the United States. GSM technology, meanwhile, predominates in Europe and other regions. By combining access to the two technologies in its World Phone and Global Roaming Card, TELUS Mobility offers clients full access to both North America's superior CDMA coverage and GSM's broad worldwide coverage footprint.

The Motorola A840

The Motorola A840 World Phone combines access to CDMA and GSM networks, ensuring clients the best wireless signal available wherever they may travel. For globetrotting professionals, the Motorola A840's built-in scheduler, calculator, speaker-independent speech recognition, integrated speakerphone and currency converter work to ease daily tasks. The stylish clamshell design also integrates an MP3 player, removable Trans-Flash memory, large colour display and a 1.2-megapixel digital camera with flash.

The Motorola A840 also lets clients transfer the phone's on-board Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card to a separate GSM phone so they can use their regular Canadian phone number while traveling. Similarly, the Motorola A840 can accept a GSM card so clients can have a local phone number in foreign destinations, a feature not available with other GSM-capable phones available in Canada. "The Motorola A840 is another example of Motorola's continued commitment in bringing innovative technological advancements to the wireless world," said Mike Hortie, President, Motorola Canada. "This handset enables the mobile professional to stay connected with colleagues, friends and family while traveling globally, maximizing their productivity."

The Motorola A840 World Phone is available at TELUS Mobility retail locations across Canada for $249.99 on a three-year contract or $399.99 with no contract.

Global Roaming Card

For clients who don't need the power of a full-time World Phone, TELUS Mobility now offers an affordable GSM Global Roaming Card to its postpaid PCS clients (the service is not available to Pay & Talk prepaid clients). When inserted into an unlocked GSM phone, widely available from retailers around the world, the card replicates a client's TELUS Mobility PCS account, meaning all international calls and text messages are recorded on their regular monthly invoice.

Like the Motorola A840 World Phone, the card allows roaming in more than 120 countries worldwide. Available at TELUS Mobility retail locations across Canada, the Global Roaming Card costs $24.99.

Business Mobility Benefits Follow Expansion Of Sprint Power Vision(SM) Mobile Broadband Service

Business Mobility Benefits Follow Expansion Of Sprint Power Vision(SM) Mobile Broadband Service OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — 11/08/2005 — Enterprise customers are seeing new business mobility benefits as Sprint continues an aggressive build-out of its Power Vision(SM) high-speed network. Launched in July, the Power Vision EV-DO (evolution, data optimized) wireless service has expanded to more than 141 major markets and more than 250 airports nationwide, and will be accessible on various devices to about 150 million people in over 220 major markets by early 2006.

With increased coverage and new devices, Sprint helps enterprises to wirelessly enable mobile workers and others who desire information access on the go. "Our customers are rapidly gaining new means and places to be productive," remarked Vicki Warker, Sprint vice president for business solutions marketing. "With our network momentum we're adding millions of people to our network coverage area weekly. The Power Vision network meets the remote connectivity needs of the mobile broadband customer and will help widen Sprint's industry leadership in wireless data."

Among the early beneficiaries is American Republic Insurance of Des Moines, Iowa, which began a pilot program using Sprint's Power Vision service. "Our initial results were exceptional and we are reviewing rolling out the technology to 500 field sales people who often go to customers' homes," said Randy Cairns, assistant vice president for distributed technology. "Having online access when talking to prospective customers is a big benefit. With average connection speeds of between 480 Kbps and 960 Kbps, our sales people have excellent response times and are more productive. We haven't run into a single issue and have been pleased with the low cost and ease of the mobile broadband data deployment."

Sprint's mobile broadband service, devices and applications can change how and where business is done while providing the additional advantage of the industry's best value pricing. Various devices provide users faster speeds to download e-mails and leverage mobile applications when in Power Vision (EV-DO) coverage areas, such as the Sprint PCS VisionSM Smart Device (PPC- 6700, the only Windows Mobile 5.0 smart phone on the market) and laptop connection cards from Novatel Wireless and Sierra Wireless. A third card manufactured by UT Starcom, the Sprint PCS connection card (PC-5740), will become available later this month. Flexible pricing plans start at $39.99 per month or $59.99 monthly for unlimited access (with a voice subscription) coupled with a free connection card offer until Dec. 31, 2005. *

"Sprint's high-speed wireless offering can bring measurable benefits to businesses in terms of remote access and improved productivity," commented Gene Signorini, director, Yankee Group. "There's more to broadband wireless as a foundation for business mobility. Sprint has also been aggressive in providing the applications and services that rest on the network foundation, which business customers need to fully realize the transformational power of wireless."

The Sprint Power Vision Network is based on state-of-the-art EV-DO CDMA technology. Users with EV-DO capable devices will be able to access wireless data at average download speeds of 400-700 kbs and a peak rate of up to 2 Mbs. EV-DO is up to 10 times faster than the current Sprint Nationwide PCS network. Sprint Power Vision mobile broadband information can be found at http://www.sprint.com/wirelesshighspeeddata.

QUALCOMM Extends Family Of Single-Chip Solutions For CDMA2000 1X Dual-Band Networks

QUALCOMM Extends Family Of Single-Chip Solutions For CDMA2000 1X Dual-Band Networks LONDON — November 08, 2005 — QUALCOMM Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced that the Company has expanded its family of QUALCOMM Single Chip™ (QSC™ ) solutions for dual-band (800, 1900 MHz) CDMA2000® 1X networks. Significant improvements in network capacity and power consumption are combined with new, advanced multimedia and position-location capabilities in the dual-band, single-chip solutions. The highly integrated QSC solutions combine baseband modem, multimedia, radio transceiver, GPS and power management functionality, enabling device manufacturers to create smaller and sleeker CDMA2000 1X mainstream devices at reduced cost. Sampling is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2006.

"QUALCOMM's new QSC solutions enable slimmer devices with feature-rich multimedia, advanced GPS capabilities, and low power consumption for wider mainstream markets," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "These products also deliver significant capacity benefits for CDMA2000 1X network operators, reinforcing our commitment to continuously innovate in both existing and developing CDMA markets around the world."

The QSC family of integrated solutions is designed to eliminate the need for certain discrete components in handset designs to lower development and manufacturing costs, reduce bill-of-materials costs and accelerate time to market. Because the QSC solutions have fewer components and are highly integrated, they enable richer functionality on smaller, sleeker, and thinner devices with optimized power consumption. QUALCOMM's new QSC products are targeted primarily for mainstream markets in North America, as well as markets in India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The new QSC solutions deliver:

• Multi-band functionality, including support for PCS and cellular bands

• Advanced 65 nanometer (nm) process technology for further improvements in power consumption

• Multiple technologies to improve CDMA2000 1X network capacity:

o QLIC (quasi-linear interference cancellation including pilot and traffic interference cancellation)

o Fourth Generation Vocoder™ (4GV™) - a core voice codec suite giving network operators the flexibility to prioritize voice quality or network capacity

• Advanced position-location capabilities for high-end positioning functionality in mainstream markets:

o State-of-the-art -159 dBm GPS sensitivity for enhanced performance indoors and in dense urban areas

o Simultaneous-GPS capabilities supporting concurrent voice and positioning, enabling seamless E911 calls and voice-based location services

o Enhanced GPS navigation algorithms to boost the precision of navigation applications for automobiles and pedestrians

o Standalone-GPS functionality for off-network navigation, asset management and recreational applications

The second generation of QUALCOMM's QSC solutions enables CDMA2000 1X network operators to realize significant gains in network capacity. The combination of QLIC and 4GV on handsets allows up to a 60% increase in total network capacity, and also enhances network performance on the forward link. The additional implementation of four-way receive diversity at the base station can deliver up to double the system capacity within the same spectrum.
