Vodafone and Telecom today announced the new service between their networks, the result of a recently-signed commercial agreement.

Vodafone PXT™ or Telecom Photo Messaging enables customers to create, send and receive messages containing colour video messages, or photos with sounds and voice recordings from mobile to mobile.

Vodafone General Manager Consumer Marketing Larrie Moore said the move was great news for customers, who were enthusiastically adopting video and pxt or photo messaging as a fun, rich and compelling way to communicate.

Whether you're at the beach, at a concert, or in the middle of a huge party, you can share the moment. It’s also an effective business tool for illustration and clarification.

Sprint Extends Customer Choice And Flexibility With TeleNav GPS Navigator Offering

Sprint Extends Customer Choice And Flexibility With TeleNav GPS Navigator Offering SANTA CLARA, Calif. — 09/26/2005 — Sprint today announced the availability of TeleNav GPS Navigator on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network, making it the first GPS Java enabled handset offering available on both the Nextel National and Sprint PCS networks. TeleNav GPS Navigator application extends affordable and accessible Java enabled GPS services to Sprint customers, offering the ability to instantaneously receive destination location details and directions at the touch of a button or verbal command prompt.

TeleNav GPS Navigator is similar to in-car GPS navigation systems sold with luxury vehicles and provides audible turn-by-turn directions, displays maps and provides graphical driving cues to help drivers get to their desired locations easily, right over their mobile phone. Unlike in-vehicle systems, this application is portable, and updates to road information are automatic, saving time and expense. The TeleNav Java enabled GPS Navigator service is available on Sprint's Sanyo 5600, 7400 and LG 535 mobile handsets as well as all GPS and Java–enabled handsets currently in the Nextel portfolio, including the new BlackBerry 7520 from Nextel.

"The availability of TeleNav on both the Sprint and Nextel networks shows that we continue to stand by our mission of providing choice and flexibility to all of our customers," said Danny Bowman, vice president, product development and management, for Sprint. "Sprint's suite of Java enabled location solutions and data offerings for both the consumer and business marketplace will continue to be a focus and priority for the company moving forward."

"We are pleased to be working closely with Sprint to ensure TeleNav GPS Navigator is accessible to all their subscribers," said Dr. HP Jin, president and CEO of TeleNav. "With the addition of TeleNav GPS Navigator for CDMA, we now bring the convenience and safety of GPS navigation to Sprint's CDMA mobile handset subscribers, further enhancing the value subscribers derive from their Sprint service."

To use TeleNav GPS navigator, a customer specifies a destination via an interactive voice response (IVR) system, or by keying in the address on the handset or device. Once the destination is specified, a route is calculated and TeleNav GPS Navigator provides real-time, audible and graphical turn-by-turn directions over the mobile device. For trip planning, users can also enter multiple destination addresses using the TeleNav website at www.telenav.com. The TeleNav GPS Navigator service also includes a Business Finder that can help users find nearby banks, restaurants, hotels or other businesses, and get driving directions with the touch of a button.

The TeleNav GPS Navigator service is available for a fraction of the price of in-car GPS navigation systems, starting at just $9.99 per month.

Palm And Microsoft Join To Bring The Palm Experience To Windows Mobile; Verizon Wireless First To Market With New Treo Smartphone

Palm And Microsoft Join To Bring The Palm Experience To Windows Mobile; Verizon Wireless First To Market With New Treo Smartphone SAN FRANCISCO, CA — September 26, 2005 —Mobile-computing pioneer Palm, Inc. and software pioneer Microsoft Corp. today announced a strategic alliance to accelerate the smartphone market segment with a new device for mobile professionals and businesses. Palm has licensed the Microsoft® Windows Mobile® operating system for an expanded line of TreoTM smartphones, the first of which will be available on Verizon Wireless' national wireless broadband network. The news was revealed in a press conference with Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm, Inc.; Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corp.; and Denny Strigl, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless.

The collaboration gives customers more choices and marks a dedicated effort to deliver one of the world's most innovative smartphone solutions on the software platform favored by many businesses. Treo smartphones combine the hallmark Palm experience of a full-featured mobile phone with email, messaging, web access(1) and organizational software -- in an attractive, compact design. The new Treo smartphone takes advantage of the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform in multiple ways, offering Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile built into the smartphone, as well as direct access to Exchange Server 2003 for mobile access to information.(2) In addition, the new Treo will operate with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service, the largest high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States. Verizon Wireless expects the new Treo smartphone to be available to its customers in early 2006.

"We've long believed that the future of personal computing is mobile computing, and our collaboration with Microsoft is a historic step in delivering that vision to a larger market," said Colligan. "We're confident customers will see a differentiated smartphone that delivers our world-class usability on Microsoft's flexible and robust Windows Mobile operating system. We collaborated with Verizon Wireless first because of its high-speed wireless network and growing footprint of BroadbandAccess cities."

"This is a landmark alliance that will help businesses remain on the cutting edge of competitiveness," Gates said. "Demand for accessing information on mobile devices is soaring, and businesses want a low-cost, scalable solution. We're excited to team with Palm and Verizon Wireless to deliver a winning Windows Mobile solution that connects professionals to their critical information while on the go."

The Treo smartphone on Windows Mobile is a CDMA-based phone targeted for the U.S. market and takes advantage of Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service on its EV-DO network with download speeds averaging 400-700 kilobits per second. Today, about half the U.S. population, in more than 84 metropolitan areas and in hundreds of airports across the nation, can access download speeds comparable to DSL or cable-modem connections. Verizon Wireless has been expanding its BroadbandAccess service area steadily since its debut in the fall of 2003.

"The new Treo smartphone running Windows Mobile will highlight the speed and power of our BroadbandAccess service," said Strigl. "The Treo will deliver fast downloading of email and attachments as well as quick access to critical-business information, providing businesses with a great return on investment. Our strong relationships with Microsoft and Palm continue to provide real value for our customers."

The new Treo smartphone is powered by an Intel processor and joins Palm's award-winning family of Treo smartphones, which includes the Treo 600 and Treo 650, both offered today to Verizon Wireless customers.

The Palm Experience on Windows Mobile

During the press conference, the companies demonstrated the Palm experience now brought to life on Windows Mobile. The audience saw a sampling of Palm's award-winning hardware design integrated thoughtfully with a rich Palm software suite, including the ability to:

• Contact someone quickly from the Today Screen and choose between home, office or mobile numbers, or select email or SMS. With only two letters entered, a customer can find a record from among thousands of contacts;

• Reach people most often called via photo speed dials visible as a band of images on the Today Screen;

• Decline a call with a friendly SMS, signaling "In a meeting" or "Talking with the boss" instead of simply ignoring the call; and

• Rewind, delete or fast-forward through work or cell phone voicemail with familiar and consistent on-screen icons.

Full product details will be disclosed when the product is available for purchase in early calendar 2006. No plans were revealed for additional mobile operators. Palm indicated that a Treo smartphone using Windows Mobile based on other wireless technologies was not anticipated to be released earlier than the second half of 2006.

Sprint Customers Can Now Create Their Own Ringers For Their Mobile Phones

Sprint Customers Can Now Create Their Own Ringers For Their Mobile Phones OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — 09/26/2005 — Sprint today announced the launch of ToneMaker DJ, a new and unique mobile Music Tone application by Sonic Branding Solutions, which puts power and creativity in the hands of Sprint PCS customers by allowing them to easily create original Music Tones, right on their phones. With ToneMaker DJ's compelling library of thousands of stylish and interchangeable music parts, customers can produce and save their own personal Music Tones for use on their Sprint PCS Vision Phones. In addition, the application's "DJ Lounge" community offers powerful features that allow the best ringers to gain recognition, be heard and even purchased by the application's subscribers.

"Sprint customers now have more choice and flexibility in making their mobile phone more their own," said Jeff Hallock, vice president of consumer product marketing and strategy for Sprint. "ToneMaker DJ is an exciting application that is suitable for people of all ages, and with many different musical styles and a simple user interface, ToneMaker DJ makes music-making a fun and rewarding experience."

To create custom ringers, customers can use different mixing methods, or 'Modes', offered by the application. With 'Step Mode', sounds for the Drum, Bass, Rhythm and Lead tracks are chosen in order, and a Music Tone is built piece by piece. With 'Jam Mode', the user begins with a complete Music Tone and can swap sounds in and out at will. There's even an 'Auto Mode' where customers only have to press a button and a unique Music Tone is generated just for them! In each Mode, customers choose sounds from the application's sound library, which is organized by style. Part of the fun is mixing the styles together - HipHop, Rock, Funk, Electronic and Dancehall – and creating unique ringers that reflect the individual style of the maker. Customers can also subscribe to regular SMS notifications that provide updates on new celebrity DJs, artists, music styles and other content as they are added to the ToneMaker DJ library. Along with the ability to produce original Music Tones, ToneMaker DJ offers a robust community experience, providing customers with access to the DJ Lounge where custom-made ringers are ranked and shared. Within this community, customers can view, listen to and purchase Top Tones, Latest Tones, Favorite Tones and Celeb Tones or Browse by DJ.

For $4.99 a month, customers can put their own spin on six quality audio ringers (i.e., Music Tones) every month, along with a seventh custom ringer to share with a friend each month.

Sprint customers can access ToneMaker DJ by going to Menu/ Downloads/ Ringers/ Get New and then Create Your Own>ToneMaker DJ on their Sprint PCS Vision Phones.

Telespree Communications Introduces Industry’s First Integrated Platform That Delivers Self-Service Applications And OMA DM Capability

Telespree Communications Introduces Industry’s First Integrated Platform That Delivers Self-Service Applications And OMA DM Capability San Francisco, CA. September 26, 2005 - Telespree Communications, the leading provider of wireless self-service solutions, announced the availability of their new OMA DM solution for wireless carriers. The OMA DM (Open Mobile Alliance Device Management) functionality, combined with the self-service enrollment applications and account management functions inherent in Telespree’s platform, provides wireless service providers with a robust, single platform for device and customer lifecycle management. Telespree’s self-service wireless applications enable carrier and MVNO (mobile virtual network operators) customers to sign up for service and self-manage their account directly via their wireless device without customer care or retail agents.

Telespree is introducing a fully compliant OMA DM 1.1.2 server solution that includes a management system for all provisioning and device-related over-the-air (OTA) activity for OMA DM applications and services. The solution implements an OMA DM transport/framework for OTA functions and supports a unified platform for easy integration of other OMA DM applications and services via standards-based APIs. The Telespree solution delivers full device OTA programming of initial use parameters (CDMA NAM, MMS, and 3G data parameters), device- or network-initiated on-going device programming (e.g. PRL updates, enterprise application parameter downloads), and provides support for integration with OMA DM-based services (e.g. firmware updates (FOTA), device diagnostics, device sync).

Telespree’s solution is an integrated device and customer management platform that delivers consolidated reporting and standards based APIs for both OMA DM applications and OSS integrations through a very cost-effective implementation. Ideally suited for carriers who support MVNOs, as well as MVNO themselves, the platform provides inherent partitioning and support.

“Telespree’s support for OMA DM is another market indicator that open standards will drive a whole new mobile experience for consumers and a whole new mobile ecosystem for developers, manufacturers and carriers,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO of Funambol, the mobile open source company that supports the Sync4j project. “Telespree’s ability to deliver an important customer management solution with OMA DM functionality is a win for mobile carriers and consumers alike.” Telespree’s OMA DM 1.1.2 server solution is based on Sync4j, the mobile application server supported by Funambol. Verizon Wireless And Lenovo Team To Provide Integrated High-Speed Wireless Notebook Connectivity

Verizon Wireless And Lenovo Team To Provide Integrated High-Speed Wireless Notebook Connectivity BEDMINSTER, NJ — September 20, 2005 — Verizon Wireless and Lenovo today announced plans to integrate wireless technology using Verizon Wireless’ Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network in upcoming versions of ThinkPad notebooks, beginning with the new ThinkPad Z60m available Oct. 11. EV-DO-based high-speed wireless wide-area network (WWAN) transmits data at average speeds between 400-700 kbps.

For the first time, PC users will have wireless broadband access across Verizon Wireless’ nationwide EV-DO network – the largest high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States – without a separate PC card or additional hardware. Verizon Wireless’ network runs on EV-DO technology licensed from Qualcomm.

Through the relationship, ThinkPad notebooks will be preconfigured for Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network that delivers a more pervasive and secure Internet connection than traditional Wi-Fi, enabling access in more than 60 major metropolitan areas and airports. Users will no longer need to be centrally located near wireless hubs, or Wi-Fi “hot spots,” an ideal situation for mobile and small business professionals who are on the go and often located in areas where Wi-Fi hot spots are not readily available.

ThinkPad notebooks are already recognized as having the industry’s most advanced security features. Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network provides an additional layer of security with technology that encrypts each wireless transmission, providing a connection more secure than traditional Wi-Fi hot spots.

ThinkPad notebooks with integrated WWAN and EV-DO capabilities will enable IT departments to avoid hardware incompatibility issues, plus they can expect less hardware to troubleshoot and replace – as no PC card is necessary for connection – and improved data security for employees who frequently travel.

“As we continue to build out our wireless broadband network, we’re focusing on developing products and services for today’s enterprise customers and mobile professionals,” said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “Our relationship with Lenovo is part of our strategic plan to help serve these customers in a way that streamlines the purchasing process and gives them new wireless options to help them work more productively.”

With the upcoming ThinkPad notebooks, customers with any monthly Verizon Wireless voice plan can receive unlimited BroadbandAccess for $59.99 monthly access with a two-year customer agreement. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited use with a one- or two-year customer agreement. ThinkPad customers will need to contact Verizon Wireless to set up their service.1 For more information on Verizon Wireless EV-DO products and services, including BroadbandAccess, visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store, call 1-800-2 JOIN IN or go to www.verizonwireless.com. Business customers can contact a Verizon Wireless Business Sales Representative directly at 1-800-VZW-4-BIZ.

HP And Verizon Wireless Expand Mobile Broadband Boundaries

HP And Verizon Wireless Expand Mobile Broadband Boundaries PALO ALTO, CA & BEDMINSTER, NJ — September 19, 2005 — HP and Verizon Wireless today announced plans to bring mobile broadband connectivity to upcoming HP mobile business devices, offering users high-speed wireless data access(1) that extends beyond the reach of today's current patchwork of Wi-Fi hot spots.

As part of the collaboration, the companies will jointly market HP business notebooks and other mobile devices that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) network, the nation's largest high-speed wireless broadband network with data download speeds of 400 kbps to 700 kbps.

With the technology, HP customers will be able to enjoy secure broadband-comparable wireless access to email,(1) the Internet and critical business data when away from the office and home. No longer confined by Wi-Fi hotspot locations, users can work where they want to, even staying connected in a taxi cab as they head to an airport.

"Mobile broadband, which recently entered the U.S. market, is rapidly becoming the 'must have' technology in an industry already accelerating its shift away from desktop computers," said Rob Enderle, principal analyst, The Enderle Group. "This high-speed, broad-reach wireless technology opens up a serious set of future possibilities for both business and entertainment markets, creating one of the most powerful growth opportunities we have ever seen."

HP expects to make this mobile broadband technology available to customers through a PC Card solution this fall. Starting in early 2006, HP plans to begin offering business notebooks with integrated Verizon Wireless EV-DO modules that will be based on Qualcomm chipsets. "HP is pushing the boundaries of mobile computing with Verizon Wireless," said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Computing, HP. "The growing number of Wi-Fi hot spots is helping to drive more pervasive on-the-go computing, but our work with Verizon Wireless takes it a step further. Now, our customers will enjoy high-speed data connectivity in locations where public hotspot connections are unavailable."

The agreement between HP and Verizon Wireless calls for activities such as collaboration on product testing, product development and joint marketing.

"High-speed mobile connectivity will change the way many users stay connected and in doing so will set a new standard of productivity for users on the go," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer, Verizon Wireless. "Together with HP, we are expanding the range of mobile devices and options for customers who get true office mobility because of the breath and reliability of the Verizon Wireless network."

Verizon Wireless is continually fulfilling its promise to expand its EV-DO wireless broadband network. Today it is available in more than 60 major metropolitan areas and 65 of the nation's busiest airports. Customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess network, based on 1xRTT technology that allows download speeds of 60 kbps to 80 kbps.

HP is planning a technology demonstration of future HP mobile broadband notebooks with EV-DO wireless connectivity at the MobileFocus press showcase event, produced by Pepcom, which will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on Sept. 27.

Verizon Wireless And Vodafone Introduce GlobalAccess Wireless Broadband Service For International Travelers

Verizon Wireless And Vodafone Introduce GlobalAccess Wireless Broadband Service For International Travelers BEDMINSTER, NJ — September 15, 2005 — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the largest national wide-area wireless broadband network in the United States, in conjunction with Vodafone today announced GlobalAccess – a new service that gives business travelers unprecedented mobile versatility. GlobalAccess provides Verizon Wireless business customers with a two-card solution that gives them secure connection to the Internet in more than 60 major metropolitan markets in the United States, as well as in Canada and in 50 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.

In the United States, Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess, the company’s premier service for businesses, gives mobile professionals a fast resource to help them be productive and in touch with the office and customers while traveling domestically. Running on Verizon Wireless’ Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network, BroadbandAccess gives mobile professionals the ability to use their laptops to tap into applications and tasks with typical user download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps) – making it ideal for downloading files residing behind corporate firewalls, accessing e-mail, intranets and the Internet.

While operating outside of the United States, GlobalAccess runs on Vodafone’s high-speed 3G network with data rates of up to 384 kbps using the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS where available, acting as an extension of Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess service. This high-speed connection allows Verizon Wireless customers to download complex files and large e-mail attachments quickly and easily – while traveling abroad. As with Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess service for business customers, GlobalAccess is a wide-area wireless data service. With GlobalAccess, customers are not limited to the 300-foot range of Wi-Fi or confined to working in a hotel room – they can work when and where they need to and experience the freedom of mobility. For ease of use, the two-card solution – one for accessing Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO BroadbandAccess service and the other for Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS – includes software that detects which data card has been inserted in the laptop and launches the dashboard client for connection to the appropriate service. Through Vodafone’s networks and its roaming agreements, GlobalAccess can be used in up to 50 countries.

Cindy Patterson, vice president of enterprise data for Verizon Wireless, said “Many of our enterprise customers have large numbers of employees who spend time traveling internationally. Our relationship with Vodafone allows us to offer our customers access to our industry-leading wireless broadband network in the U.S. and Vodafone’s highly-successful Mobile Connect 3G data card and dashboard software, resulting in a best-in-class wireless experience when they travel – domestically or abroad.”

BREW® Application Downloads In China Surpass 25 Million By The More Than 2 Million Customers Who Have Used BREW Since Its Launch

BREW® Application Downloads In China Surpass 25 Million By The More Than 2 Million Customers Who Have Used BREW Since Its Launch SAN DIEGO — SEPTEMBER 15, 2005 — QUALCOMM Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, China United Telecommunications Corporation (China Unicom), China's major telecom operator, and the two parties' joint venture Unicom-BREW Telecommunication Technologies Ltd., today jointly announced more than two million of China Unicom's wireless subscribers have securely downloaded more than 25 million BREW-based applications since China Unicom's launch of BREW services in July 2003. This achievement marks yet another landmark milestone for the BREW solution since China Unicom announced 1.5 million downloads in June 2004.

According to the China Centre for Information Industry Development, a research firm in China, there have been more than 70 BREW handset models available to wireless subscribers in China since China Unicom launched BREW services, with sales of BREW devices totaling more than 4.5 million units. Unicom-BREW continues to be very active in attracting additional applications and developers and has reported that there are now more than 1,000 applications and more than 300 developers supporting the BREW platform on mobile devices available to China Unicom subscribers. Operators, publishers, developers and device manufacturers in China continue to realize growing revenues for wireless applications and services based on the BREW solution.

In honor of this important milestone, China Unicom and QUALCOMM organized the “Bravo for BREW 2005” event, which brings together more than 200 representatives of the Chinese BREW community, including handset manufacturers, publishers, developers, operators and wireless subscribers, including Li Zhengmao, vice president of China Unicom and Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of QUALCOMM. The event will be held on September 15, 2005.

In addition to recognizing the significant growth of BREW application downloads made available by China Unicom, the event also honors various members of the entire wireless value chain for notable achievements in the Chinese wireless data industry.

• BREW handset manufacturers will be honored for various achievements in handset design that further enable the development of high quality and advanced mobile devices. LG will be honored with the “Best Design Award,” Samsung with the “Most Models Award” and Daxian with the “Most Popular Model Award.”

• BREW publishers and developers also will receive honors, including PDAger with the “Award of Creativity,” Sichuan Great Wall with the “Fastest Growing Award” and Tencent with the “Most Downloads Award.”

• Three of China Unicom's provincial branches in Shaanxi, Shanghai and Guizhou will be awarded the “Best BREW Business Development Award,” for the facilitation of the availability of BREW products and services in their various regions.

• Three of China Unicom's subscribers will be honored with the “Golden Thumb Award” for the most BREW applications downloaded to their individual mobile devices.

“China Unicom's CDMA network has achieved breakthrough development in the past year,” said Zhengmao. “The 25 million downloads show the booming popularity of BREW applications and content. China Unicom will continue to work closely with QUALCOMM and other partners to provide strong support to developers and handset manufacturers, and deliver high-technology, high-quality and value-added services to our customers.”

“The wireless Internet is taking off in China, exemplified by the more than tenfold growth of BREW application downloads by China Unicom's wireless subscribers in the past year,” said Jacobs. “It is an exciting time to experience the growth and momentum of China's wireless data market. The uptake of BREW application downloads that has taken place since the BREW launch is a testament to the top-notch work and ongoing joint efforts throughout the wireless value chain in China, from operators and handset manufacturers, to publishers and developers.”

“The BREW solution is the industry's leading complete solution in the wireless industry and enables operators like China Unicom to differentiate and offer robust wireless data services available to their customers,” said James Shen, general manager of Unicom-BREW Telecommunication Technologies. “The openness and flexibility of the BREW solution allows operators and device manufacturers to customize their products and services with advanced content and a wide array of applications that appeal to both casual and business users. Unicom-BREW is also committed to helping publishers and developers in China generate revenue for their innovative applications.”

LG Electronics Wins CDMA Industry Achievement Awards In North America For Its World's First Commercialized Fastap Mobile Phone

LG Electronics Wins CDMA Industry Achievement Awards In North America For Its World's First Commercialized Fastap Mobile Phone September 15, 2005

- 3G CDMA Industry Achievements Awards in the category of mobile handsets was presented by CDMA Development Group (CDG), the largest group of its kind in the world- LGE successfully commercialized world's first Fastap mobile phone, LG-VX6190, featuring a Fastap alphabetic keyboard, thus boosting user convenience remarkably compared to the existing the QWERTY keyboard-based handset. - CDG membership companies, the media and analysts selected the winner, providing a momentum for LGE to be accepted as a major mobile phone brand in the U.S. market. - LGE stroke a deal to supply the LG-VX6190 model to Telus of Canada, thus allowing it to make inroads into the global innovative mobile handset market and continue its solid No. 1 spot in North America's CDMA mobile handset market.

LG Electronics successfully began supplying world's first commercialized Fastap mobile handsets to the North American market. The company also received CDMA Industry Achievement Awards from CDMA Development Group (CDG). This is highlighting LG Electronics as a worldwide cutting-edge mobile handset brand.

LG Electronics (CEO: S. S. Kim / www.lge.com) received 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Awards 2005 at CDMA Americas Congress held in Miami in the United States. The awards are presented by CDG, a worldwide CDMA group, to companies that have accomplished great achievement in the category of CDMA mobile devices.

The awards-winning product is world's first Fastap mobile handset, CX6190, which LG Electronics began supplying last year to the Canadian market, allows users to type messages on the keyboard much easier compared to existing mobile handsets.

The Fastap mobile phone features a combination of alphabetic and numeric keypads with the alphabetic keyboard arranged around the numeric keyboard and raised a little higher than the latter. Fastap keypads can be fitted even in small regular handsets.

Early last November, LG Electronics developed a folder-style Fastap mobile phone, CX6190, allowing users to type messages on Fastap keypads with ease using one hand, the first of its kind in the world. The company is now supplying the model to Telus, Canada's top telecommunication company.

The Fastap mobile phone CX6190 allows users to type numbers and alphabets on keypads using one hand, thus boosting the convenience of usage compared to the standard alphabetic keyboard QWERTY-based mobile phones.

Meanwhile, launched in 1993, CDG is comprised of CDMA equipment/handsets manufacturers, CDMA service operators, and test equipment. CDG is responsible for publicizing CDMA technologies and publishing recommendations on various standards, among other work. CDG is also the largest body of its kind to represent the interests of CDMA-related parties in various mobile communication standardization organizations such as ITU, 3GPP, and OMA.

In particular, CDG member companies, various mobile-related media and analysts selected the award winner, thus allowing LG Electronics to be recognized as a company with cutting-edge technologies and as a solid major brand in the U.S. mobile handset market.

Also, significantly, the CDG awards-winning world's first commercialized Fastap mobile phone allowed LG Electronics to highlight its feat in this category in the international community. The Fastap mobile phone, which is being supplied in North America's mobile phone market, has been upgraded a notch from the existing QWERTY handset. Emerging as a major player in the category of Fastap folder handsets, LG Electronics is expected to boost its position further.

President Park Mun-hwa of LG Electronics' Mobile Communication Company said, "There is an increasing need for short message service in North America's mobile phone market. LG Electronics is striving to unveil cutting-edge mobile handsets with enhanced convenience of user, including Fastap mobile handsets, ahead of competitors, thus taking a fresh leap forward."

TELUS Mobility, which already uses Gemplus SIM cards in its iDEN Mike phones, is researching the benefits of expanding smart cards to its CDMA network. With this move, TELUS Mobility joins the other 40 CDMA operators using R-UIM, including operators located in China, India, Japan and Brazil.

“Gemplus is pleased to support TELUS Mobility as it develops R-UIM technology in Canada and thus the inherent smart card advantages of portability and security. “We will continue to work closely with TELUS Mobility to optimize the value of smart cards in their networks,” said Ernie Berger, President of Gemplus North America.

BridgePort Networks And China Unicom’s Guangdong Branch Trial MobileVoIP In World’s Largest Wireless Market

BridgePort Networks And China Unicom’s Guangdong Branch Trial MobileVoIP In World’s Largest Wireless Market CHICAGO and BEIJING – September 13, 2005 – BridgePort Networks, the leader in MobileVoIP convergence, and China Unicom, China's second largest mobile operator and the third largest in the world, announced today that technical trials of BridgePort Networks' MobileVoIP convergence solution are underway by China Unicom Telecommunications Corporation's Guangdong Branch.

China Unicom’s Guangdong branch will test a Mobile/IP convergence, single identity service, that could ultimately target more than 100 million subscribers through the use of a cellular phone, PC based VoIP soft client, fixed SIP phone, analog telephone adapter and/or dual mode cellular/Wi-Fi mobile phone.

The trial uses BridgePort Networks' open standards based NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway (NCG) to seamlessly converge China Unicom Guangdong Branch's cellular network with VoIP delivered over their broadband fiber backbone and access networks.

"Convergence at China Unicom is about giving China's mobile phone users the benefits of choice," said Mr. Lixin Xie, China Unicom Guangdong branch. "MobileVoIP will give our customers the ability to leverage the cost and coverage benefits of broadband IP networks with our cellular network. Together with BridgePort Networks, we are looking forward to bringing innovative convergence solutions to the Chinese market."

MobileVoIP can enable China Unicom to further differentiate its voice and messaging service offerings and further grow its current subscriber base of 88 million GSM, 30 million CDMA and 10 million Internet subscribers.

The initial trials are centered on BridgePort Networks' "Roam to Home" solution – where a subscriber's mobile phone number is also used as a home phone number. As a user enters the home with a mobile phone, their presence on the broadband network is detected and mobile services are instead delivered through the subscriber's broadband network using VoIP technology. This enables China Unicom to offer its customers cost effective mobile services in home broadband environments. Subsequent trials will likelyinclude the use of a single mobile phone with both CDMA and VoIP over WiFi network capabilities.

"China Unicom has been highly successful at building a competitive mobile business and offering with an increasing array of enhanced services. Given the strength of the IP backbone built to support these services, China Unicom is now ideally positioned to offer MobileVoIP convergence services that combine the strengths of both fixed and mobile", said Mike Mulica, President and CEO of BridgePort Networks.

According to a recent report by analyst firm iSuppli Corp., China's broadband subscribers will overtake the United States in two years. The report estimates that by the end of 2007, China will have 57 million broadband subscribers, compared to 54 million in the United States. Additionally, Strategy Analytics has forecasted that by 2010 the Chinese market will account for 64 percent of the Asia-Pacific region's 176 million broadband subscribers.

Nortel Demonstrates Wireless Broadband 'Triple Play' Solution

Nortel Demonstrates Wireless Broadband 'Triple Play' Solution SEPTEMBER 12, 2005 - MIAMI - Wireless service providers and their customers will soon be able to benefit from simultaneous delivery of voice, video and data virtually 'anytime, anywhere,' leveraging technology developed by Nortel. This service bundling is designed not only to help create a new business model for wireless operators, but also to position them to increase revenue potential and enhance the subscriber experience.

Nortel plans to demonstrate real time applications and its 'triple play' solution over a live CDMA2000* 1xEV-DO Rev. A network at the 3G CDMA Americas Congress, September 12-14, 2005 (Room G, Miami Convention Center).

The ability to deliver simultaneous broadband data, VoIP and IPTV media services over a single EV-DO connection is another step in Nortel's plan to position CDMA operators to lead the shift to a converged business model.

"Today, people expect wireless services to be as fast, reliable and secure as their wireline connections," said Richard Lowe, president, CDMA, Nortel. "Nortel's DO Rev. A and IMS/MMD solutions will help make tomorrow's service aware networks more intelligent, and assist CDMA operators in increasing profit potential by creating new business models and service bundling opportunities to enhance the subscriber experience."

Nortel's DO Rev. A and IMS/MMD solution benefits include an open design to provide personalized services for each user; options for increasing revenue through innovative bundling of voice, video and data services; and higher network transmission speeds with lower latency to ensure the highest quality user experiences for gaming, music, VoIP, PTx (Push to Talk, Push to See, Push to Video), video telephony, and broadcast/multicast services.

In August 2005, Nortel and Airvana completed live 1xEV-DO Rev. A calls at Airvana's lab in Chelmsford, Mass. using test handsets provided by QUALCOMM. The calls reached peak download rates of 3.1 Mbps and peak upload rates of 1.8 Mbps - approximately 12 times faster than available on today's commercial DO Rev. 0 networks. The test calls demonstrated average round-trip delays below 40 milliseconds, which is approximately two times faster than DO Rev. 0.

"We are excited to work with Nortel and be at the forefront of delivering 1xEV-DO Rev. A to market," said Randy Battat, chief executive officer, Airvana.

Nortel recently demonstrated live video streaming to an EV-DO enabled PDA at 25 frames per second, equivalent to the TV experience at home. This was accomplished in Telefonica Móviles commercial EV-DO network in Guatemala City, Guatemala in collaboration with SmartVideo Technologies, a leading provider of live and on-demand IPTV services. "It is gratifying to have worked with Nortel on this exciting project," said Richard E. Bennett, Jr., president and chief executive officer, SmartVideo (www.smartvideo.com**). "We are also working with Nortel on an interoperability testing program to enable delivery of advanced video services to subscribers."

"Our BroadbandAccess laptop service for business customers and V CAST consumer multimedia service are market-leading, thanks to support from EV-DO network infrastructure providers such as Nortel," said Bill Stone, executive director, network strategy, Verizon Wireless. "We will stay at the forefront of the 3G world by continuing to work with Nortel to attain the added benefits Rev. A will give the award-winning Verizon Wireless network."

In March 2005, Nortel announced plans to trial Rev. A with Verizon Wireless in 2006. Nortel's Rev. A technology is expected to be commercially available in 2006. Nortel supplies EV-DO equipment to 12 of the 21 operators across the globe currently offering commercial EV-DO service, including Verizon Wireless in the United States, VIVO in Brazil, Pelephone in Israel and Telstra in Australia. Nortel also provided EV-DO equipment to Eurotel for the first commercial 450 MHz EV-DO service in Eastern Europe. With its CDMA equipment designed to support 1xEV-DO through modular upgrades to existing hardware, Nortel re-uses existing base station equipment to help operators reduce or eliminate the need for costly hardware replacements.

MMD is a standard architecture designed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project2 (3GPP2) to enable convergence of data, voice, messaging and multimedia technology over an IP-based common core network based on SIP. MMD will enable operators to cost-effectively deliver VoIP and multimedia services across mobile, wireline and converged networks.

Nortel is an industry innovator and at the forefront of all broadband access technologies, including wide area cellular, wireline and wireless LAN. Nortel has designed, installed and launched more than 300 wireless networks in over 70 countries. Nortel was the industry's first supplier with wireless networks operating in all advanced radio technologies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO, UMTS and WLAN), and is the only end-to-end provider of all next generation wireless solutions, as well as edge and core network solutions for IP, ATM and optical transport.

DataRemote Inc. And Kyocera Wireless Join Forces For Three New CDMA-Based Machine-to-Machine Communication Tools

DataRemote Inc. And Kyocera Wireless Join Forces For Three New CDMA-Based Machine-to-Machine Communication Tools SAN DIEGO, and VENTURA, Calif. - (September 6, 2005) - Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless handsets and devices, and DataRemote Inc., a global wireless solution provider, today announced the launch of three products that combine the award-winning Kyocera 200 Module with DataRemote's proprietary software and hardware to enable seamless, ubiquitous data communication: CDS-9060M-T/R, a modem that upgrades legacy analog systems to digital; TrakitNow, a new comprehensive AVL and GPS fleet tracking software solution; and VirtualComm IP Manager software solution. All three products use the power of CDMA technology to enable virtually anytime, anywhere communication that improves business productivity and cost efficiency while easily integrating with legacy equipment and technology, ensuring the jump to the digital age without the need of costly equipment overhauls.

"With Kyocera, we have found a telecommunications technology partner who can provide a proven high-speed solution that is easily integrated in both traditional and upgraded software and equipment," said Brett Cavanah, president and CEO, DataRemote, Inc. "Our customers come from a wide variety of industries and have specific and unique technology requirements. With the scalable Kyocera 200 Module we are able to quickly design solutions to meet our customer's needs and provide fast and efficient wireless communication ability for a variety of remote applications - whether in a vehicle, in the field, or in a plant."

"The highly scalable Kyocera 200 Module is a great fit for DataRemote, who is widely known for tailoring a variety of flexible wireless solutions to fit the diverse needs of end users across a wide spectrum of applications," said Dean Fledderjohn, general manager of the M2M division at Kyocera Wireless Corp. "Together, we're developing cutting-edge solutions to take advantage of the benefits of CDMA technology while continuing to lead the industry in innovation."

Obsolescence Is Obsolete With the CDS-9060M-T/R

Equipment that is built to last presents a unique challenge for businesses that want to take advantage of digital wireless technology. With the CDS-9060M-T/R modem powered by the Kyocera 200 Module, Data Remote customers can now easily update old equipment by integrating the latest wireless technology. With the simplicity of plugging into a wall jack, the innovative CDS-9060M-T/R modem allows equipment, meters and/or data terminals with an RJ11 jack (standard legacy equipment feature) to quickly and efficiently send data over digital wireless networks without the need for costly equipment overhauls. In addition, the new wireless modem operates in dual mode CDMA to support both circuit-switched and 1XRTT packet-switched services and can also plug in a standard or mobile fax machine via RJ11.

The modem also features static IP capability to maintain the same IP address while communicating across different network areas and carrier networks as well as wireless local loop (WLL) capabilities, a more economical alternative to the traditional dial-up system currently used with legacy data equipment. The product offers a cost-effective solution to customers in utilities, banking, gaming, transportation, trucking and other industries who want to utilize their AMRs, remote POSs, wireless telemetry, SCADA and ATMs for their intended lifetimes. DataRemote's 9060 modem series has been approved for use with several major CDMA wireless carriers in North America.

Do You Know Where Your Fleet Is?

With TrakitNow AVL and GPS fleet tracking software solution, DataRemote customers can now track fleet location, valuable assets and other important vehicle information in real time taking advantage of the benefits of CDMA technology for a cost-effective and data-rich alternative to satellite and other tracking technology options. TrakitNow works in conjunction with the DataRemote CDS-9060G modem powered by the Kyocera 200 Module and provides store-forward capability to capture data for later review and analysis to improve business productivity and function or for review when vehicles travel to remote locations outside wireless coverage areas. TrakitNow's unique "follow me" feature displays fleet vehicles on national, regional and/or local maps, allowing dispatchers to quickly assess vehicle location and assist drivers with mission critical information such as directions to the nearest gas station, route changes and parking regulations - ultimately improving timelines, heading off problems and ensuring on-budget operations.

The scalable and easy to use TrakitNow software can be hosted by a home office, corporate server or by DataRemote via the Internet and offers a reliable fleet management solution suitable for varied industries including shipping and delivery, transportation, emergency services and vehicles, commercial sanitation and more.

Linking Old and New Virtually

DataRemote customers can now link legacy technology with cutting-edge wireless communication technology with VirtualComm IP Manager. This innovative new software integrates seamlessly with old communications software and diverts data out of a virtual serial port rather than through the traditional physical serial port providing a digital gateway to the Internet - all without requiring any modification to the existing software code or hardware. Performing like a circuit switched call; the VirtualComm IP Manager is actually Internet-based and allows connection to both static and dynamic IP addresses. It can create up to 225 virtual serial ports with an unlimited number of end units in its control. VirtualComm IP Manager keeps a log of transactions for user records and tracks statistics and vital data offering a cost-effective and reliable alternative for those ready to make the leap to IP-based communications without abandoning entire existing software systems.
