Airvana Showcases Advanced 3G 1xEV-DO Features In China

Airvana Showcases Advanced 3G 1xEV-DO Features In China Beijing, June 28, 2005 — Airvana, Inc. (www.airvananet.com), a leading provider of all-IP, third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1xEV-DO infrastructure, today announced that it will present advanced 1xEV-DO features, including multicast, QoS and VoIP, to China's 3G community. These features will enable service providers in China to deliver innovative 3G services to consumers and mobile professionals.

Airvana is a pioneer in introducing all-IP 1xEV-DO solutions to market and is the first CDMA infrastructure vendor to demonstrate multicast, application-level QoS and VoIP in China. With over 14 million subscribers, 1xEV-DO is the world's leading 3G wireless technology and these advanced features extend 1xEV-DO's lead over competing technologies. By delivering these features to service providers, Airvana dramatically reduces the cost of delivering compelling mobile multimedia services to handsets and enables rapid adoption of 3G wireless.

Airvana's 3G Mobile International Summit & Exhibition demonstrations will include:

• Broadcast and Multicast Service -- Airvana and Japan's Kyocera Corporation have teamed to demonstrate how operators can efficiently deliver rich multimedia content such as movie clips, news and sporting events simultaneously to a large number of mobile devices. Subscribers can either view live content or the content can be cached on the mobile device for viewing later. The demonstration will show Airvana's 1xEV-DO Rev 0 Infrastructure delivering video content to a specially modified version of the Passport KPC650 1xEV-DO PC card from Kyocera's San Diego-based subsidiary, Kyocera Wireless Corp.

• Application Level QoS -- This feature allows multiple network priorities to be assigned to different applications running on the same subscriber device and is a key technology for enabling commercial grade Voice over IP over 1xEV-DO. Airvana's Application Level QoS demonstration uses Internet Protocol (IP) technology and shows real time applications operating at high priority and low latency (using Multi-Flow RLP) and Internet downloads and multicast applications operating at lower priority on the same subscriber device.

• VoIP -- The addition of Voice Services using VoIP over 1xEV-DO will bring operators significant flexibility to enhance their revenues and reduce their capital and operating expenses. Airvana will demonstrate live VoIP calls over the Internet using its QoS enabled IP infrastructure. Airvana's Rev 0 infrastructure located in Beijing will interoperate with IP based Soft Switches and Media Gateways based in Richardson, Texas to make and receive VoIP phone calls.

"Airvana is committed to bringing the most advanced CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology to China," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana. "Airvana is investing heavily in the development of new 1xEV-DO services, and is building upon its expertise in powering some of the largest 1xEV-DO networks in the world."

Service providers are deploying CDMA2000 1xEV-DO worldwide as a high-speed mobile data service for cell phones, PDAs and laptops. It is flexible enough to support mobile multimedia applications or act as a low-cost, fixed wireless broadband data service. 1xEV-DO can be deployed very inexpensively, either by upgrading an existing base station with a channel card or by overlaying the existing network with low cost CDMA2000 1xEV-DO base stations.

All previous improvements in wireless data throughput have been important steps, but the move to EV-DO is more of a giant leap. I have used the EV-DO service in more than 20 cities in the past six months. It has displaced at least 50% of my Wi-Fi and hotel broadband connects, with the added convenience of mobility.”

Easy to set-up and use, BroadbandAccess requires no wires, phone jacks or separate Internet service provider (ISP) – customers simply connect to BroadbandAccess with a BroadbandAccess-capable PC Card that slides directly into most laptops. The included VZAccess Manager software helps enterprise customers manage the business and Internet applications they need. And because the technology platform BroadbandAccess runs on is backward compatible – a distinct advantage to using CDMA technology – customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless’ existing 1xRTT NationalAccess network to remain connected to their customers and the office while on the road.

Cindy Patterson, vice president of enterprise data for Verizon Wireless, said “Our existing customers tell us that BroadbandAccess gives them a huge competitive advantage because it enables their employees to have faster access to things that are behind their firewall when they’re away from the office. With BroadbandAccess, laptop users can access email and important files without the hassle of finding a nearby hotspot – whether to download a presentation just before a meeting or to simply use downtime at the airport to remain productive. BroadbandAccess gives businesses of all sizes the freedom of wireless data access to help them boost productivity.” EV-DO Network

Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch high-speed wireless broadband services in the United States and is continuing to expand the availability of its EV-DO network in new markets across the country, including the recent launches in more than a dozen major metropolitan areas nationwide. The company is also conducting major expansions of its wireless broadband network, extending the reach of broadband services in existing markets, making the customer experience in areas such as Atlanta, Kansas City, New York, Miami, Chicago, Phoenix and San Diego more robust than ever.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $4 billion annually on the build-out and enhancement of its networks since the company’s inception in 2000, and last year alone it invested $5 billion, including build-out of the wireless broadband EV-DO network. As a result, BroadbandAccess has typical user download speeds of 400-700 kbps and is ideal for downloading files residing behind corporate firewalls, accessing e-mail, intranets and the Internet.

At the end of 2004, Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network was available to 75 million Americans; the company is on track to cover half the U.S. population with EV-DO by the end of 2005.

Business Customers

BroadbandAccess from Verizon Wireless gives enterprise customers a fast, reliable resource to help them be productive and in touch with the office and customers when they are traveling, enabling them to tap into applications and tasks that are more suited to broadband data speeds. In recent months, many enterprises across the country have signed contracts with Verizon Wireless to take advantage of BroadbandAccess.

BroadbandAccess

The company’s highly-touted BroadbandAccess service, available to mobile professionals and enterprise customers, allows customers in Lake Charles to connect wirelessly to Internet via their laptop at broadband speeds, a convenient way to conduct business. Faster than any competing widely available wide-area wireless data service, BroadbandAccess customers can download a 1 Megabyte email attachment (for example, a small PowerPoint presentation or a large PDF file), or receive three digital pictures (each 400 x 600 pixels) in less than 20 seconds. Because EV-DO technology is backward compatible – a distinct advantage to using CDMA technology – customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless’ existing NationalAccess service, which runs on the company’s 1xRTT network.

Working with virtual private network (VPN) connections, business customers can use BroadbandAccess as an extension of their corporate local area network (LAN) or intranet, allowing them to work from any location within the BroadbandAccess coverage area, as if they were in the office. BroadbandAccess, with typical user download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), is ideal for downloading files and business-critical information residing behind corporate firewalls and for accessing e-mail, intranets and the Internet. BroadbandAccess’ EV-DO technology has its own data protection and authentication and is designed to work with a business’ existing IT infrastructure and security solutions.

BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited use with a one- or two-year customer agreement. For more information on BroadbandAccess from Verizon Wireless, visit www.verizonwireless.com/broadbandaccess.

Kasapa Signs Contract For National Digital Network

Kasapa Signs Contract For National Digital Network June 21, 2005 -- Kasapa Telecom Limited has signed a contract with ZTE Corporation of China to supply, build and manage a digital network for the company. At a news conference in Accra today, Kasapa Telecom Managing Director Robert Palitz said that with this new nationwide digital network, Kasapa will provide affordable voice and data telecommunications solutions for mobile, home, and business.

Kasapa expects the first shipment of network equipment to arrive in Ghana this week and anticipates it will launch digital service in its present coverage areas of Accra, Tema, and Kumasi in less than three months, followed immediately by a program of nationwide expansion.

Kasapa will deploy CDMA2000 1X, one of the 3rd generation family of cellular technologies. This digital cellular technology, developed in the United States, is used by over 256 million customers in 78 countries worldwide. Leading networks in the USA have received accolades for the quality of service and features that CDMA has enabled them to provide.

Mr. Palitz added that when the digital service is launched, the present analogue system will be shut down but noted that “Kasapa pledges not to leave any active customer behind.”

Throwing more light on this commitment, Kasapa Marketing Manager Clement Asante stated that almost all active customers are using dual mode handsets that will switch automatically to CDMA as soon as the new network is launched. Those handsets will then sport new features and much improved battery life. Active Kasapa customers will be able to exchange their functioning analogue handsets for new CDMA models of similar type. All Kasapa customers will be offered trade-in discounts on new models, if they so desire.

Mr. Asante continued, “CDMA2000 1X phones are available in all shapes and sizes, with basic phones at affordable prices as well as highly advanced and fashionable models. And only Kasapa will give you the choice of phones using Kasapa chips or phones that require no chips at all.”

In explaining Kasapa’s choice of CDMA technology, Mr. Palitz pointed out that the key in a market such as Ghana is to shop and choose wisely to support a business plan that permits a company to offer affordable prices. “Integrated services delivered on a single CDMA2000 1X network give us an efficiency nobody can match. Our parent company Hutchison’s worldwide experience and support helps to ensure our success. And every Kasapa customer knows our policy is to share efficiencies with the customers. Kasapa and ZTE will make wonderful things happen in Ghana.”

Mr. Asante pledged to keep Kasapa customers and the market informed of the project’s progress.

Spirent Communications Solution Enables MEID Handset Testing

Spirent Communications Solution Enables MEID Handset Testing Rockville, MD - 06/21/05 - Spirent Communications a global leader in wireless mobile device performance testing, announces that its AirAccess® C2K Network Emulator now includes the ability to perform accurate and repeatable Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) testing for CDMA2000 1X handsets.

The successful deployment of Pre-release D MEID technology is arguably the single most urgent issue facing the CDMA2000 community today. Devised in response to the rapid depletion of Electronic Serial Numbers (ESN’s), the MEID initiative has a significant impact on network operators, handset manufacturers, and mobile subscribers alike.

Spirent’s AirAccess C2K Network Emulator now includes functionality required to automatically test this vital new aspect of handsets. The implementation of MEID’s is not only critical and urgent, but requires simultaneous changes to multiple layers of the protocol stack. Traditionally, mobile phones have used ESN’s as a way to uniquely identify each and every mobile device manufactured for use on a CDMA network. While there are theoretically 4.2 billion ESN’s available, ESN assignment issues have nearly exhausted the available pool of ID numbers and some experts believe that heavy demand for CDMA2000 mobiles could cause this point to be reached as early as the first quarter of 2006. With 56 bits, compared with the 32 bits of ESN’s MEID provides for over 16 million times as many unique numbers, helping to ensure the industry will not run out of unique numbers in the future.

“Avoiding problems with the implementation of MEID technology is critical to the continued success of CDMA2000,” states Mike Keeley, CDMA Market Segment Manager for Spirent Communications. “The enhancements we have added to AirAccess enable our customers to thoroughly evaluate the impact of MEID on handset performance, ensuring that this major change will be transparent to handset users.”

Spirent’s AirAccess family of wireless network emulators provides powerful, easy-to-use air interface performance analysis solutions for CDMA terminals. Spirent Communications’ AirAccess CDMA Network Emulator has the power and flexibility to perform rapid analysis of CDMA terminal performance as well as being scalable to complete TIA-98 (Stage 1), TIA-898 (Stage 2) or TIA-916 Location-Based Services test systems. AirAccess is a highly configurable, real-time CDMA network with a dynamic state machine engine. Unlike program-driven protocol conformance test systems, AirAccess can run user-defined test scenarios without any requirement for complex programming or scripting, and with response times representative of a real network.

Spirent’s wireless test solutions aid in all phases of mobile device and wireless network development and deployment for the world's manufacturers and mobile network operators. Spirent’s extensive experience in wireless protocols has led to it being considered the “one-stop-shop” for CDMA handset performance and certification testing. Spirent has leveraged its success in mobile performance and certification testing to bring comprehensive performance analysis to the W-CDMA market. The company’s wireless core infrastructure GPRS and CDMA performance test systems help service providers identify performance ceilings, enable vendor selections, and plan network capacity prior to deployment, to facilitate smooth service delivery.

Spirent has helped accelerate wireless service delivery by introducing the first and only solutions to test CDMA, WCDMA and GSM location-capable mobile devices. These systems play a critical role in assisting the validation of emergency services such as the U.S. FCC E911, and in facilitating the roll-out of commercial location-based services.

Telecom’s 3G Mobile Broadband Coming To A Town Near You Before Christmas

Telecom’s 3G Mobile Broadband Coming To A Town Near You Before Christmas June 10, 2005 --Telecom is to expand its super fast 3G Mobile Broadband network to New Zealand’s main towns and cities.

“Mobile Broadband will fundamentally change the way New Zealanders in the main cities and towns use mobile technology and make it practical to work away from the office at speeds that enhance rather than inhibit efficiency,” said Kevin Kenrick, General Manager of Telecom Mobile.

“Mobile Broadband allows you to connect remotely to your email and the Internet as fast as a fixed line Broadband connection. It makes remote working really work.

“If the response in the provinces and towns is anything like we’ve had from the main centres we will see strong uptake from New Zealanders enjoying the benefits of Mobile Broadband by Christmas 2005.”

As part of its latest 3G development, Telecom will also expand existing coverage in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

“In many cases this will effectively double the coverage in the main centres while at the same time supporting our nationwide rollout to main towns and cities.”

Telecom’s Mobile Broadband network is the fastest mobile data network in New Zealand. While data speeds can obviously vary, Mobile Broadband is up to 15 times faster than Telecom’s existing nationwide 027 network and up to six times faster than UMTS based services expected to be offered by Telecom’s competitors later this year.

Mobile Broadband enables Telecom customers who are away from their offices to send and receive email, download business information, organise appointments and access the internet via laptops and handheld devices at unprecedented high speeds.

Telecom’s mobile broadband will be available by Christmas in towns and cities including Bay of Islands, Whangarei, Hamilton, Tauranga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Tokoroa, Gisborne, Napier, Hastings, Ohakune, National Park, Turangi, New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Masterton, Martinborough, Carterton, Greytown, Levin, Waikanae, Paraparaumu, Porirua, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Picton, Nelson, Blenheim, Kaikoura, Rangiora, Westport, Greymouth, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Balclutha, Gore, Feilding, Invercargill, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, Taupo, Coromandel plus smaller places nearby like Huntly, Te Puke, Te Rapa, Thames, Ngongotaha, Helensville, Orewa.

“After Christmas we will continue to expand and enhance our coverage in these towns and cities to meet growing customer demands as more New Zealanders choose to mobilise their way of life.

“This will ensure New Zealanders continue to be right at the forefront of the global innovations in mobile communications.”

Mr Kenrick said the extension of Telecom’s Mobile Broadband would be funded within the existing capital expenditure allocated for Mobile in 2005-2006.

Since last November Telecom has introduced 5 new mobile services as part of its Next Generation of Mobile Services which can be accessed on Telecom’s 027 network. These include mobile broadband, video messaging, Push2Talk, video clips (featuring rugby, news, sports, music and movie trailers) and Song ID.

Telecom’s Mobile Broadband is being delivered in partnership with Lucent Technologies. Lucent provide design, software and management for Telecom's 027 network.

Lucent New Zealand General Manager Jonathan van Smit said this extension of Mobile Broadband coverage was another example of Lucent and Telecom working together to bring New Zealanders world-class mobile services.

Delta Telecom And Lucent Technologies To Enhance And Expand CDMA450 Network In St. Petersburg With CDMA2000 1XEV-DO Technology

Delta Telecom And Lucent Technologies To Enhance And Expand CDMA450 Network In St. Petersburg With CDMA2000 1XEV-DO Technology ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA – June 8, 2005 - Delta Telecom, a mobile operator in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, and Lucent Technologies today announced plans to expand Delta Telecom’s Sky Link-branded CDMA450 network, and enhance the network to support CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) technology. The EV-DO network will enable Delta Telecom to provide its Sky Link subscribers in St. Petersburg with new, high-speed mobile data services such as complete mobile office capabilities, high-quality video-on-demand and other high-bandwidth services at speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second – more than 15 times faster than what’s currently available.

The project, which the companies plan to complete by the end of 2005, includes increasing the capacity and coverage of the CDMA450 network in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. It also includes the deployment of the Bell Labs-developed Lucent Super-Distributed Home Location Register (S-DHLR), a key element of Lucent's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution from its Accelerate™ Next Generation Communications Solutions portfolio.

“We see that the market is ripe to adopt the new, innovative services that will be enabled by Lucent’s solutions,” said Gennady Golant, general director, Delta Telecom. “With Lucent’s EV-DO solutions, we will be able to deliver complete mobile office capabilities and ensure high-speed access to the complete range of applications and information resources that our corporate customers currently access via fixed networks, while maintaining the same high levels of reliability and security.”

As part of the project, Lucent will install additional Flexent® CDMA450 base stations and a new Mobile Switching Center (MSC), provide its S-DHLR and enhance existing Lucent CDMA450 base stations to support EV-DO technology. Lucent Worldwide Services will provide its expertise to ensure a smooth network deployment including installation support, network integration, and training and support services.

“Our work with Sky Link in St. Petersburg represents a technological breakthrough in terms of delivering a whole suite of new capabilities and services,” said Dmitry Kamensky, general director, Lucent Technologies in Russia and CIS. “Our long-term partnership with Sky Link helps us to find the best solutions to help Sky Link meet the demands of its subscribers and succeed in this highly competitive mobile market.”

The Lucent S-DHLR is an advanced customer information data server that enables the creation of a single subscriber profile for each customer and all of the services they use, in contrast to the traditional method of maintaining individual subscriber databases for each service. It also provides support for a wide variety of voice and data services on mobile, wireline and converged networks. Delta Telecom’s migration from a traditional Home Location Register (HLR) to the new Lucent S-DHLR will reduce the complexity of managing subscriber data, make it easier to offer their subscribers customized service bundles and provide a consistent look and feel for subscribers' services even when roaming across multiple network types such as GSM, W-CDMA/UMTS, WiFi and wireline networks or onto another operator's network.

Lucent's Network Solutions Group is dedicated to helping wireline, mobile and converged service providers capture the market opportunities being created by the growing demand for blended lifestyle services. A global leader in the development of commercial 3G spread-spectrum solutions, Lucent's Network Solutions Group has deployed CDMA2000, CDMA450, and W-CDMA/UMTS networks with more than 35 customers on the continents of North and South America, Asia, Europe and in the Australia/New Zealand region. Lucent has deployed more than 120,000 spread-spectrum base stations for mobile operators worldwide, of which 70,000 are already supporting 3G services.

Leading Venezuelan Mobile Operator Movilnet Selects Starent Networks Solution For Data Deployment TEWKSBURY, Mass. – June 6, 2005 – Movilnet, a leading mobile operator in Venezuela, has selected Starent Networks to provide key network infrastructure for its next generation data services. The agreement calls for Starent Networks to provide its ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway for data service access in Movilnet’s CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO network.

Key to the deployment is Starent Networks’ ability to provide pre-paid data services through the carriers existing pre-paid network architecture. The Starent ST16 platform provides tremendous performance advantages, but also service flexibility and enhanced charging capabilities as demonstrated by the pre-paid requirements. Services enabled by the network include: Internet browsing, WAP, MMS, BREW, among others.

“Movilnet has established itself as a leader in next generation services for Venezuela. Our addition of high-speed data and our commitment to our customers dictates that we install the best service delivery equipment,” said Ernesto Ramos Henningsen, chief technical officer for Movilnet. “The Starent ST16 was an ideal solution for our deployment as it has the performance qualities and the service capabilities we require.”

“We are pleased to be working with a market leading operator like Movilnet,” said Ashraf Dahod, president and CEO or Starent Networks Corporation. “With the high performance characteristics of our solution, Movilnet subscribers can expect a superior service experience, while also benefiting from the billing flexibility of the platform’s enhanced charging capabilities.”

Starent ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway

The Starent ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway has rapidly become the preferred next generation solution for mobile operators with CDMA-based networks. Designed specifically for the mobile environment, the ST16 acts as the gateway between the wireless network and core IP network. The system offers enhanced mobility, multimedia service delivery, high capacity, superior accounting and billing, carrier-class reliability and a clear migration to an all-IP network. Furthermore, the ST16 is unique in its ability to provision high-speed data, enhanced voice and multimedia services, moving the mobile network to a truly next generation architecture.

The Movilnet deployment takes advantage of Starent’s Enhanced Charging Solution (ECS) provided through the deep packet inspection and statistics gathering capabilities of the Starent ST16. With the system’s enhanced charging features, Movilnet has increased flexibility in how services are tracked and billed. The operator is able to offer tiered billing based on application types for both prepaid and post-paid subscribers. Additionally, when prepaid accounts are exhausted, subscribers are redirected to a top-up portal where they may purchase more time or bytes of usage.

Through Starent Networks, Movilnet has also licensed Bridgewater Systems' AAA Service Controller, Prepaid Integrator and Session Director solutions. The Bridgewater Systems' solution supports Movilnet's post-paid and prepaid business models. It also enables them to provides data subscribers the option to sign up for various time periods (one day, one week, one month, etc.). In order to prevent fraud, Bridgewater Systems' solution also verifies that the Mobile Identification Number (MIN) contained in the message, coming from the PDSN, is the same MIN provisioned for the subscriber.

Verizon Wireless Customers Go Fishing With ESPN BassMaster: Legendary Lunkers From Dwango Wireless

Verizon Wireless Customers Go Fishing With ESPN BassMaster: Legendary Lunkers From Dwango Wireless SAN DIEGO and BEDMINSTER, NJ – June 2, 2005 – This year, there is no need to break out the waders or apply for a fishing license. Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless provider, and Dwango Wireless, a leading developer and publisher of wireless lifestyle applications, remind customers they can play in multi-day fishing tournaments with the same stakes found in the great outdoors with ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers. Verizon Wireless customers with select Get It Now-enabled phones can download ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers to enjoy all of the challenges of fishing – unpredictable weather conditions, different lures and fast acting fish – without ever getting wet.

ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers allows Get It Now customers to leave their tackle at home and get hooked on playing in nine of the best bass fishing lakes across the United States. Cast a line, set the hook and try to catch 13 species, including nine species of infamously large bass, or the “legendary lunkers,” all without having to dig for bait. But it’s not always blue skies and sunshine when playing ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers – each time a player gears up, the game checks the National Weather Service and recreates conditions for the selected lake.

Fishing champs can stake their place in history by having their largest catch saved on the legendary trophy wall. Friends can compete via the online leader board and reel ‘em in with two playing modes: recreation mode allows players to sit back and relax on a lazy summer day, while tournament mode provides Get It Now customers with their own mobile fishing tournament. If gamers only have time to test the waters for a few minutes, ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers’ “Cast-n-Wait” mode lets players exit the game and alerts them when a fish bites.

ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers has been selected for two upcoming awards – as a finalist for the Mobile Game Award from the Mobile Entertainment Forum and as Best Sports Game from GameSpot Mobile and Wireless Gaming Review’s Wireless Gaming Awards.

ESPN Bassmaster: Legendary Lunkers is located in the getGAMES shopping aisle of the Get It Now virtual store and available for $2.99 monthly access. Verizon Wireless nationally launched Get It Now in September 2002. The most recent addition to the Get It Now family of downloads are Get It Now 3D Games, available through the company’s V CAST wireless multimedia service. Fueling awareness and demand for all mobile applications, Verizon Wireless has extensively marketed the new V CAST entertainment service. Introduced in the first quarter of 2005, 3D Games are expected to be a large growth segment in upcoming months. While the company is on track to break the 200 million download benchmark within a few short weeks, Verizon Wireless also announced its Get It Now customers have downloaded:

-More than 120 million applications in the past 12 months, up from 61.5 million downloads during the prior 12 month period.

-More than 56 million applications in the first five months of 2005, compared to 34 million during the same time period of 2004.

-More than 22.5 million game applications from January through May 2005 – nearly double the same period last year. - More than 50 million games have been downloaded since the launch of the service.

“Get It Now has gone mainstream – we moved beyond the early adopter crowd a long time ago and are increasingly reaching the broader consumer and enterprise markets,” said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “This broader market penetration is a direct result of our joint efforts with the developer community. While we celebrate our successes, we must anticipate the future; customers are more sophisticated, increasingly savvy about mobile, and exhibit much broader and more diverse tastes. At Verizon Wireless, we are poised for that future.”

Speaking at the BREW Developers Conference today at 10:40 a.m., Stratton is expected to outline Verizon Wireless’ broadband vision, examine strategies for success and discuss how Verizon Wireless’ nationwide deployment of its 3G EV-DO network provides an unprecedented opportunity for developers to create new and exciting mobile applications.

Get It Now is available on 26 million handsets – more than half of all handsets currently being used by Verizon Wireless’ 45.5 million customers and double the number of handsets from one year ago. Verizon Wireless’ ongoing commitment to make ever more powerful handsets available to its customers is driving this adoption and providing developers with new opportunities to develop more advanced applications.

Get It Now’s virtual shopping aisles include getGAMES, getTONES, getGOING, getPIX, getFUN and getMESSAGING – giving Verizon Wireless customers an easy way to find what they want, when they want it.

The most popular category remains getGAMES, the virtual shopping aisle that offers new 3D Games on V CAST-enabled phones, as well as puzzle and strategy games, action and sports games, classics based on popular board games and games based on favorite television shows and top movie titles.

Other popular aisles in the Get It Now virtual store are getTONES and getPIX. getTONES offers customers thousands of true tone and polyphonic ring tone selections, consisting of pop, hip-hop, country, classical, voice tones from celebrities and sounds from popular movies and television. getPIX provides a variety of downloadable applications to view, store and share photos.

New applications are introduced every Wednesday, so customers can keep their handsets up to date with the latest releases.

“Developers should continue to focus on quality, innovation and creativity,” said Jim Straight, vice president of wireless Internet and multimedia services for Verizon Wireless. “Customers want to extend the gaming experience from the console to their wireless phones. Our content providers understand our drive to bring new titles to our diverse customer base – but they also understand what really drives adoption: how well applications work on the handset.”

Wireless Publishers And Developers Cash In On The BREW® Solution, Earning More Than $350 Million From BREW Applications And Services SAN DIEGO — June 02, 2005 — QUALCOMM Incorporated, pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that BREW publishers and developers have earned more than $350 million to date from the sale of wireless applications and services developed for the BREW solution. Today's milestone is a tremendous achievement for the international community of BREW publishers and developers when compared to the more than $200 million in earnings announced in October 2004. These numbers are strong validation of the success that the solution enables and a key indicator of the popularity of wireless data worldwide. Currently, there are 45 commercial operators in 24 countries offering wireless data services based on the BREW solution.

“BREW has been an extremely effective distribution mechanism with all the components necessary to make mobile entertainment successful,” said James Eberhard, CEO of 9 Squared. “BREW has brought definition to the mobile ecosystem and allowed each player to focus on their core strengths. BREW has allowed 9 Squared to develop and globally distribute rich mobile content that is translating to significant dollars a month in sales from our applications.”

“AGI is generating tremendous revenue each month from our BREW-based applications - enabling Def Jam Mobile, Univision Movil, Blue Mountain Mobile and MIDIringtones to rapidly expand on a global basis,” said Bryan Biniak, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile, AG Interactive.

“QUALCOMM's BREW platform has enabled us to build a powerful mobile media application that enables easy previewing and purchasing of our extensive array of TrueTones, Artist Voice Tones, Wallpapers and more,” said Tim Nilson, vice president, Global Mobile Technology, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. “We are thrilled that SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT's Music Box has become one of the largest revenue generating BREW applications in the world and the largest in North America.”

“Sorrent's BREW revenue was up 170 percent in the first quarter of 2005 over the same period in 2004,” said Rocky Pimentel, chief financial officer, Sorrent, Inc. “Sorrent's growth and success with BREW demonstrates the platform's strength in enabling developers and publishers to quickly and cost-effectively develop and deploy quality products to multiple handsets around the world.”

“The widespread success of BREW publishers and developers demonstrates the BREW solution's superb ability to support companies of all sizes in realizing their full revenue potential,” said Peggy Johnson, president of QUALCOMM Internet Services. “By providing the tools and resources necessary for the development and delivery of wireless content, publishers and developers can concentrate on what they do best - creating compelling, fun and useful applications, which translates directly into revenue gains for the mobile marketplace value chain.”

Earnings figures were calculated based on payments made by QUALCOMM to developers and on reports from certain BREW operators on what they had paid to their publishers and developers. 9 Squared, AG Interactive, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT and Sorrent will be showcasing their portfolio of wireless offerings during the BREW 2005 Conference, taking place June 1-3 in San Diego. Bell Mobility, Nortel To Deliver Canada’s Fastest, Most Advanced Wireless Data Network

Bell Mobility, Nortel To Deliver Canada’s Fastest, Most Advanced Wireless Data Network TORONTO – June 1, 2005 – Bell Mobility, Canada’s leading wireless carrier, has signed an estimated US$126 million (C$160 million) multi-year contract with Nortel for equipment to enable the country’s fastest and most advanced wireless data network, which is expected to deliver services at speeds up to six times faster than what is currently available. The network, to be powered by Nortel’s CDMA2000* 1X and 1xEV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) third generation (3G) wireless technology, will help enhance the user experience by enabling such services as video mail and messaging, wireless gaming and content streaming at speeds close to high-speed wireline connections.

“Nortel is making it possible for us to deliver on our commitment to offer subscribers the latest and most advanced wireless services available today,” said Almis Ledas, vice president, corporate development, Bell Mobility, a wholly owned division of Bell Canada. “The EVDO network will offer Canada's fastest wireless experience and deliver leading-edge innovation to the market to revolutionize the way Canadians use their mobile devices."

With what is expected to be the first commercial deployment in Canada of a next generation wireless data network using EV-DO technology, Bell Mobility customers will be able to download data on their mobile devices at speeds up to 2.4 megabits per second with average speeds of 300-500 kilobits per second. Bell Mobility announced its intention to build the EV-DO network in December 2004, and the company plans to offer initial EV-DO services in select markets in 2005. “We’ve seen how EV-DO can greatly enhance the end user experience through our work in the United States and across the globe, and we look forward to bringing this technology to Canadian businesses and consumers with Bell Mobility, Canada’s most innovative wireless operator,” said Richard Lowe, president, CDMA, Nortel. “This agreement with Bell Mobility demonstrates our continued leadership in delivering advanced and innovative wireless data solutions to operators around the world.”

Nortel supplies EV-DO equipment to 12 of the 19 operators across the globe who currently offer commercial EV-DO service. Nortel provided the equipment to the first operators to launch commercial EV-DO services in South America (Vesper), Central America (BSI Guatemala), and Australia (Telstra). Nortel also provided EV-DO equipment to Eurotel for the first commercial 450 MHz EV-DO service in Eastern Europe.

Under the new agreement with Bell Mobility, Nortel will provide CDMA2000 1X radio base stations, base station controllers, switching platforms and other related equipment. Nortel will also supply Bell Mobility with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO equipment for initial deployment in Toronto and Montreal.

Nortel CDMA equipment is designed to support EV-DO through simple upgrades to existing hardware, which simplifies Bell Mobility’s migration from 1X to EV-DO. This approach provides a cost effective and rapid method for enhancing the end user experience by delivering advanced wireless services and applications.

Nortel has designed, installed and launched more than 300 wireless networks in over 70 countries. Nortel was the first supplier with wireless networks operating in all advanced radio technologies and is the only end-to-end provider of all next generation wireless solutions.
