The frame agreements enable Ericsson to supply CDMA2000 450 MHz terminals as part of an end-to-end product and service offering. In addition, the companies have agreed to cooperate in the further development, testing and customization of CDMA2000 products as particular supply opportunities arise. Testing and features will include fixed wireless capability for CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO, PTT capability, and R-UIM capability, among others.

Telecom Unveils Push 2 Talk

Telecom Unveils Push 2 Talk February 21, 2005 -- Telecom has launched Push 2 Talk – a walkie-talkie style T3G mobile service that enables subscribers using a Telecom Push 2 Talk mobile phone to quickly talk with up to five other Telecom Push 2 Talk users at the same time.

Telecom has already sold about 25,000 Push 2 Talk mobile phones since mid December.

This means the same message can be communicated immediately to a group of people at the same time, increasing efficiency while reducing the potential for miscommunication and the time spent relaying information.

Telecom Mobile General Manager Kevin Kenrick said he expected Push 2 Talk to catch on quickly with customers.

“The service is ideal for simple requests. Instead of calling a colleague to ask where something is, or spending time text messaging them, you can ask them, then and there.

“It’s changing the way we think about telecommunications. It’s the mid-point between a phone call or email for an extended discussion, and a quick text message for a chat,” Mr Kenrick said.

Customers using Push 2 Talk can set up a number of calling groups on their phone. To Push 2 Talk, they simply push a button on the side of their phone and select the group they want to speak with. The group members then take turns to speak by holding down the button, like a walkie-talkie. Instead of dialling a new connection each time the customer wants to speak to a new person, the service operates as an “always-on” link, unless a member has chosen to turn it off.

“Push 2 Talk is the mobile phone version of popular PC-based instant messaging services. It means you can talk to several members of your team at once, without having to place separate calls to each,” Mr Kenrick said.

Customers will be able to use Push 2 Talk with other Telecom Push 2 Talk subscribers and it can be used anywhere within Telecom’s 027 network coverage, which currently covers around 97% of the places where New Zealanders live, work and play.

The launch follows a trialling period with a range of New Zealand businesses, including Chubb New Zealand, Mainfreight, Carter Holt Harvey and the New Zealand Fire Service. Industries such as construction, service trades and transport, where efficiently coordinating a widely spread workforce is important, look set to receive significant benefits from Push 2 Talk.

The launch of Push 2 Talk is the latest T3G mobile service, following last November’s launch of the super fast Mobile Broadband mobile data network and December’s launch of video messaging.

There are two Telecom Push 2 Talk phones currently available – the Sanyo 4920 and the Sanyo 7400. The 4920 sells for $199 on a plan while the 7400 is priced at $599 on a plan. More phones are scheduled to be released later this year.

Customers signing up for Push 2 Talk before the end of 2005 will get to try the service for free for the first two months, and will then pay a monthly flat fee of $10 for up to 300 minutes usage per month, guaranteed through all of 2005. Telecom will be introducing charges for Push 2 Talk usage over 300 minutes per month but before doing so will give its customers one month’s notice of what those charges will be and how they will apply.

Sprint Demonstrates Evolving Camera-Phone Experience At Photo Marketing Association Convention And Tradeshow

Sprint Demonstrates Evolving Camera-Phone Experience At Photo Marketing Association Convention And Tradeshow OVERLAND PARK, Kan., and ORLANDO (PMA 2005) — 02/19/2005 — These days, you're likely to see someone with a camera phone - or use one yourself - everywhere you go, capturing impromptu moments. Sprint will team with several companies to demonstrate what consumers can do next with those special images at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) Convention and Tradeshow at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Feb. 20-23.

Sprint will be the first wireless communications provider to have an executive participate on the keynote Visionaries Panel and have exhibit space in the 81-year history of the show, affirming the impact camera phones have had on the imaging industry and society as a whole.

"Consumers are seeing the real value in having a camera phone with them at all times to take and share photos instantly," said Jeff Hallock, vice president - Product Marketing & Strategy, Sprint. "The rich, end-to-end Picture Mail experience available today from Sprint is just the beginning. Sprint is leading developments that will really make a difference for customers who depend on their camera phones to visually communicate and capture memories. Picture Mail from Sprint will continue to evolve as new, integrated camera phone features and services improve picture quality, picture sharing is extended to even more people, printing options are expanded, and other personal digital media solutions are offered to meet everyday needs."

Hallock will participate in the keynote Visionaries Panel at PMA on Sunday, Feb. 20, along with executives from Eastman Kodak, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Epson and Fuji Film. Economist Stuart Varney will moderate the panel in a discussion on the evolution of the imaging business and technology and the impact they have on the domestic and global economy.

Sprint will showcase the enhanced Picture Mail experience and the latest camera phones in booth number 3387-14 in the Mobile Imaging Pavilion. Sprint will team with Sanyo, Epson, Fuji and CEIVA Logic to demonstrate how Sprint customers utilizing Picture Mail can easily and conveniently capture, share, save, edit, print and display images taken on camera phones.

In addition, Sprint will make additional announcements at the show, highlighting the launch of new products, services and relationships that will continue the evolution of Picture Mail.

With the number of customers using camera phones exploding, Sprint has reached a new milestone, with more than 400 million picture and video messages shared across the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network since Sprint PCS Vision(SM) was introduced in August 2002.

Independent research and the fast growth in customer usage indicate that customers are pleased with Picture Mail from Sprint. Last quarter, Sprint announced an agreement with Fuji Photo Film USA that enables Sprint customers utilizing Picture Mail to send digital camera-phone images from their Picture Mail album to any participating retailer. An independent survey of Sprint customers who have used the print-at-retail service showed that 91 percent were satisfied with the overall experience.

"Our research shows that 40 percent of camera-phone users in the United States have printed their camera-phone images, and another 35 percent are planning to, but haven't tried it yet," said Jill Aldort, consultant, InfoTrends. "Sprint's initiatives in the camera-phone industry are helping to make printing more appealing from a quality, cost and ease-of-use standpoint. These are the primary drivers of future higher-per-user print volume among a larger number of people. "

Sprint recently announced 6.2 million Sprint PCS Vision customers through the end of the fourth quarter 2004, leading the industry in the use of advanced data services. Sprint PCS Vision includes services that allow customers to take and receive photos; browse the Internet; check personal and corporate email; view streaming audio and video clips of news, sports and entertainment; and download voice ringers, graphically rich games and screen savers, all on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network. Sprint Delivers Global Data And Domestic Wireless Services To Convergys

Sprint Delivers Global Data And Domestic Wireless Services To Convergys OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — 02/17/2005 — Sprint today announced a new three-year, multimillion-dollar agreement with Convergys that underscores Sprint's focus on delivering high-growth solutions for business customers. Sprint will provide Convergys, a global leader in integrated billing, employee care and customer care services, with domestic wireless, global data networking and voice solutions.

Under the wireless agreement, Sprint is making available a mix of advanced mobile telephony devices to Convergys, including the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Smart Device TreoTM products by PalmOne.

The data agreement will enable Convergys to obtain integrated, reliable Internet Protocol (IP) data network connectivity and related security to protect sensitive information across its locations. Through the agreement, Sprint will be a primary IP data carrier for Convergys' locations in the United States and Canada. Convergys will use Sprint's MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) VPN (Virtual Private Network) IP network to enable the convergence of voice and data over a single platform for select Convergys customer contact and data centers.

Sprint has extended its standard MPLS VPN offering to over 100 countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America, providing a secure and highly scalable solution designed to support the convergence of voice, video and data onto one network-based IP VPN platform. MPLS VPN technology combines the flexible connectivity and scalability of IP-based services with the security, privacy and quality traditionally associated with Frame Relay and ATM services. The MPLS VPN solution will make it easier and more cost-effective for Convergys to provision global network connections and consolidate advanced applications over a single, unified network.

"Sprint is very well positioned to provide integrated voice and data services over a single platform, through one agreement," said George Rewick, Convergys' senior vice president, Global Network Services. "The agreement with Sprint will provide Convergys with a non-hierarchical IP network that features an architecture designed for increased levels of redundancy and availability."

"By integrating Sprint's products and services, we've provided Convergys with reliable connectivity and operational efficiencies," added Jay Highley, vice president, Sprint Enterprise Markets – Central Area. "Our solutions enable fast, efficient communications across business locations that enhance the way Convergys serves its clients."

On Oct. 15, 2004, Sprint outlined its intent to focus on high-growth business opportunities, including bundled services, IP-driven solutions and wireless voice and data. Sprint supports multinational companies and over 95 percent of the Fortune 1000 with one of the world's leading communications networks, providing them with global voice, data and Internet services. Sprint To Launch New Mobile Applications For The AOL Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(r)) And MSN Messenger Services

Sprint To Launch New Mobile Applications For The AOL Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(r)) And MSN Messenger Services OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — 02/08/2005 — Sprint announced today that it is launching new Java-download instant messaging (IM) applications for the AOL(r) Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(r)) and MSN Messenger services from Microsoft Corp. Sprint is launching these easy-to-use applications as a way to better serve the growing population of customers wanting to take their instant messaging experience mobile. The new instant messaging applications from Sprint will make it easier for Sprint PCS Vision customers to stay in touch with family and friends by offering a mobile option for sending and receiving instant messages from their preferred instant messaging service, including those from America Online, Inc. and MSN.

The applications will allow customers to have the same look and feel of their existing desktop experience, including being able to access their AIM® Buddy List® feature and MSN Contact List to see who is online and to use enhanced graphics and emoticons. With the new IM applications, customers can get unlimited instant messaging on select handsets for $2.99 per month with a Sprint PCS Vision plan. The application is located in Downloads/Applications/Get New/Messaging.

"Sprint recognizes the increasing need of customers who want to be able to continue the IM experience while away from their desktop," said John Styers, director - Wireless Messaging Services, Sprint. "The new AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger applications will allow our customers to experience many of the same IM features they have at home or work now in the palm of their hand."

Other enhancements to mobile instant messaging from Sprint include:

• Access and download the instant messaging applications from familiar sources directly to a handset and begin using it within minutes;

• Send, receive, and reply to messages instantly;

• Receive notifications of incoming messages;

• View and manage buddy/contact/friend lists and always know who is online; and

• Set IM status directly from the handset and now appear as "mobile" when accessing IM account from a handset.

According to market research firm IDC, wireless instant messaging is poised for dramatic growth, especially in the youth and business segments. The U.S. wireless IM subscriber market is forecast to increase at a CAGR of nearly 32% to more than 37 million users by the end of 2008, with resulting messaging growth reaching a whopping 77.7 billion total messages sent and received annually by 2008.

"IM is one of the few areas in which the U.S. is clearly leading the rest of the world from both a wireline and wireless perspective," said Lewis Ward, senior research analyst, wireless and mobile communications, IDC. "This announcement is further proof that Sprint recognizes the value - and perhaps obsession in some cases - of IM to youths, adults and business professionals alike, and opens the door to even greater IM adoption that will help keep America at the forefront of this real-time form of text communication."

The launch of the new mobile applications for the AIM and MSN Messenger services will give subscribers an easier and more real-time experience. Sprint already offers enhanced instant messaging for mobile Yahoo! ® Messenger clients. The mobile application for the AIM service is available immediately. The mobile application for the MSN Messenger service is anticipated to launch within the month.

Powering Sprint PCS mobile instant messaging is the OZ Mobile IM Gateway and Client solution. The OZ Mobile IM Client connects to the branded IM services via the OZ Mobile IM Gateway - furnishing Sprint with an end-to-end solution. This standards-based, highly customizable application delivers to Sprint PCS Vision customers a branded and recognizable IM experience that mirrors existing desktop IM services.

Sprint recently announced 6.2 million Sprint PCS Vision customers through the end of the fourth quarter 2004, leading the industry in the use of advanced data services. Two New Twentieth Television Mobile Shows Premiere On V CAST From Verizon Wireless

Two New Twentieth Television Mobile Shows Premiere On V CAST From Verizon Wireless HOLLYWOOD, CA and BEDMINISTER, NJ — February 8, 2005 — Twentieth Television and Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless service provider, are bringing the drama and excitement of two mobisodes this week to Verizon Wireless V CAST customers – “Love and Hate” and “The Sunset Hotel.” V CAST from Verizon Wireless is the first true 3G wireless broadband consumer multimedia service in the country, allowing customers to view crystal clear video clips on demand because it runs on Verizon Wireless’ Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network – the only widely available wide-area wireless broadband network in the United States.

Premiering exclusively on V CAST in the V CAST Showcase Channel on Wednesday, February 9, “The Sunset Hotel” is a gorgeous upscale hotel for the Los Angeles elite. Jack, its bartender, is impossibly out of his league when he falls in love with a hotel call girl, Bianca Novak. Both are entangled in a complex web when one of the hotel guests is murdered, and the jealous and vicious hotel manager, Peter, makes it his mission to exploit the situation with manipulation and blackmail. Peter had best watch his back, however, or he could be the next death at “The Sunset Hotel.”

Premiering exclusively in the V CAST Showcase Channel on Thursday, February 10, “Love and Hate” follows the daily lives of a fictitious family over the course of six months, during which cameras document the emotional strains placed upon them by the many trials and tribulations the family members are experiencing. The improvised soap opera takes an up close and personal point-of-view of the destruction of son Allen’s marriage between his wife Elizabeth and carefree daughter Lauryn’s unexpected engagement to her newfound boyfriend, Paul.

“Love and Hate” introduces Twentieth Television’s groundbreaking production approach it calls “manipulated reality,” in which cast members work without a script and involve everyday citizens into their improvised performances and the series’ storyline. “The Sunset Hotel” is entirely scripted.

Each Wednesday, the next new mobisode in “The Sunset Hotel” series will be available on V CAST, followed each Thursday by a new episode of “Love and Hate.” Customers will be able to view two weeks worth of each mobisode on V CAST – the latest mobisode and the previous mobisode will be available, enabling customers to look back one week before seeing the new mobisode.

The V CAST coverage area, which mirrors Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network, is available in more than 30 major metropolitan markets and covers more than 75 million people. For $15.00 monthly access added to their Verizon Wireless calling plan, customers get the V CAST VPak which includes unlimited access to a wide array of more than 300 daily updated video clips from leading content providers. Leap Launches V-ENABLE’s Musicmatch® Voice-Enabled Ringtone Application For Its Cricket Clicks™ Customers

Leap Launches V-ENABLE’s Musicmatch® Voice-Enabled Ringtone Application For Its Cricket Clicks™ Customers SAN DIEGO – February 8, 2005 – Continuing its commitment to make wireless data applications simple and easy to use, Leap Wireless International, Inc., a leading provider of innovative and value-driven wireless communications services, today announced that it is enhancing its Cricket Clicks™ suite of BREW-based mobile applications with the addition of V-ENABLE’s musicmatch® voice-enabled ringtone application. By using V-ENABLE’s patent-pending voice-recognition technology, Cricket Clicks™ customers can verbally ask for and receive ringtones from their favorite artists, instead of surfing through long menus online.

"As the first carrier to commercially launch this service, we are excited about its market potential and believe it will result in additional downloads," said Al Moschner, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Leap. "With 13 percent of U.S. adult mobile users reporting that they have downloaded a standard ringtone in the last three months and eight percent claiming they have downloaded a polyphonic ringtone*, the market opportunity for this application is exciting. We believe that the musicmatch® application, with its voice-recognition technology, will appeal to a large number of our customers who will like the convenience of simply stating an artist’s name to access a song rather than surfing through a long list of artists."

"Realizing that ringtones were swiftly becoming one of the most successful revenue sources for the wireless market with Strategy Analytics projecting the ringtone market to reach $4 billion by 2008, we looked to develop a ringtone application with a twist," said Fernando Corona, president & CEO of V-ENABLE. "We were pleased that Cricket saw the value in our musicmatch® voice-recognition application, which lets a mobile user simply say the name of an artist to get immediate access to a list of their downloadable ringtones. We are encouraged by the initial reception this application is receiving and are developing similar voice-recognition applications for carriers like Cricket in the future."

With just a few simple clicks, customers with a Cricket Clicks™-enabled phone and an activated Cricket Clicks™ service account can easily navigate through the Cricket Clicks™ catalog and choose the musicmatch® application. The application will then be automatically downloaded to their phone, and the customer can select one of three credit packages, which include: 1 credit (song) for $2.99, 3 credits for $8.49, or 5 credits for $12.99. Upon selecting the credit package, the user can then simply say the name of the artist and immediately get back a variety of ringtones to preview and download.

In addition to musicmatch®, several other innovative wireless data applications are available through Cricket Clicks™ including wallpapers, games, entertainment, sports information, weather, entertainment guides, e-mail and other personal and business content. A full listing of Cricket Clicks™ applications can be found at www.mycricket.com.

Cricket Clicks™ is currently available in 25 Cricket® markets. Leap anticipates that Cricket Clicks™ will be available in all of its 39 Cricket® markets early this year.

Mobile dating services are similar to online dating services, enabling singles to create a profile, search profiles and communicate one-on-one via text messaging. With mobile dating, singles on the go aren’t tied to their computer. Instead, they can browse profiles and chat anytime and anywhere they have their mobile phones with them. Two mobile dating services are available today to Sprint customers with select Sprint PCS Vision(SM) handsets: SMS.ac and Match.com Mobile.

SMS.ac

Sprint is the first wireless provider in the United States to offer SMS.ac, the largest and fastest-growing mobile community in the world. SMS.ac offers three services:

• Flirt – Users can search profiles and find a date for $0.25 per text message sent and received.

• Clubs – Users can join mobile communities to chat on any topic with only one message to many users. A user starts a conversation with other club members by sending the club a message. Then members of the club can reply with messages about their thoughts and comments. A user can send a message for free and pays $0.25 per message received. Users can choose how many messages they want to receive per day.

• Channels – Users can choose to receive the latest news, horoscopes, celebrity gossip and more for $.25 per text message received.

Match.com Mobile

With Match.com Mobile, powered by Enpocket’s Eden dating engine, users can sign up, explore and find matches for free. When users decide to communicate with their matches, they will be asked to subscribe for only $4.99 a month for unlimited usage. To get started, users simply create a profile or transfer their Match.com Web profile. During the month of February only, customers can sign up and communicate with their matches for free.

Sprint customers can enter a sweepstakes through text messaging for the chance to win a cruise holiday. Exclusive runner-up prizes include a crystal-covered Sprint PCS Vision Picture Phone PM-A740 by Samsung. More details on how to enter the sweepstakes and official rules can be found at www.sprintpcs.com/valentines.

Coming soon, Sprint will offer access to dating services from Lavalife, one of the leading providers of technology-based dating services that offers members anytime, anywhere access to like-minded singles. Lavalife Mobile offers three ways for members to communicate:

• Voice – Users just dial #25425 (CLICK) to listen to voice greetings, trade instant voice messages or connect live for $0.79 per minute plus airtime.

• Text Messaging – Users just text message the word JOIN to 25425 (CLICK) then search, read profiles and check their Inbox for messages or instant text message with other singles for $0.50 per message.

• Browsing – With Lavalife Mobile’s txt2CLICK subscription service, Sprint customers can browse and search picture profiles and send and receive messages from their private Inbox for $4.99 per month.

For more information, customers can visit www.lavalifemobile.com.

Casual data-usage rates of $.002 per kilobyte apply to all browsing and registration aspects of the mobile dating services for Sprint customers not on a Sprint PCS Vision plan.

“Mobile dating services provide convenient, fun social networks where singles can interact through text messaging, which is very popular with young adults who are on-the-go,” said John Styers, director – Data Services, Sprint. “Sprint will continue to meet the diverse communications needs of its customers by providing innovative messaging options to connect with others.”

According to Yankee Group research, active users of mobile interactive, entertainment and community applications, which include premium chat, flirting and dating services, are forecasted to grow from 960,000 in 2003 to 16.3 million in 2008, for a cumulative annual growth rate of 76.3 percent.

“As mobile users become more familiar with the myriad of data applications available on their handsets, they will increasingly look for those that mirror or extend popular online services,” said Linda Barrabee, senior analyst, Yankee Group. “Chat, dating and flirting opportunities are among the interactive services forecasted to experience a dramatic growth in users.”

To explore these dating services, Sprint PCS Vision customers can go to the Web on their Sprint PCS Vision Phone, select “messaging” and then “chat,” and begin meeting new people.
