Hewlett-Packard Company / SignalSoft Corporation / Sprint PCS / SnapTrack/Qualcomm

On December 24, 2001, Sprint PCS announced the launch of E911 Phase II services on its network in Rhode Island. These services allow Sprint PCS customers in Rhode Island to automatically send their location information to emergency dispatchers when using a Global Positioning System (GPS) phone. The launch marks the first availability of E911 Phase II services on the Sprint PCS network and makes Sprint PCS the first wireless carrier in the United States to offer this service with handset-based location technology.

Hewlett-Packard Company provided the Himalaya hardware platform that the SignalSoft and SnapTrack software resided on.

SignalSoft provides the location-based software that enables Sprint to deploy emergency services to its mobile subscribers. SignalSoft products include the location gateway, called Location Manager™, and the emergency services application, called SafetyFirst™, that routes the emergency calls to the nearest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).

SnapTrack, Inc., pioneer of Wireless Assisted GPS™ (A-GPS) location systems and a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Inc., is the provider of Sprint’s location technology for their emergency services.

The combination of SignalSoft's Location Manager and SafetyFirst software products, and SnapTrack's A-GPS location technology, provide an integrated "best of breed," end-to-end solution for mobile operators.
