Industry Leadership:
This award is given to the individual who has provided the most dynamic leadership in 3G industry activities, including contributions to standards development and the growth and evolution of 3G CDMA technologies.
 
 

Ed Tiedemann, Senior Vice President, Engineering, Qualcomm
Awarded for Mr. Tiedemann’s long-running contribution to CDMA development and standardization, and for his leadership in TR45.5 and 3GPP2 TSG-C3.

 
Operator Leadership:
This award is given to the operators that have demonstrated leadership in the wireless community through the expansion of 3G CDMA system deployments and/or the unique implementation of 3G CDMA technologies in a specific market.
 
 

LG Telecom
LG Telecom launched the Korean market’s first full-browsing mobile Internet service, "OZ," on its EV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) network in April 2008. Coupled with an affordable flat-rate price plan, OZ gained over 400,000 subscribers in a five-month period, establishing itself as the most innovative wireless Internet service brand in Korea.


 

Subscriber Technology Innovation:
This award is given to the companies that have demonstrated innovative thinking in terms of services supported and terminal design. Resulting products take advantage of the inherent benefits and latest technological developments of 3G CDMA, offering consumers state-of-the-art terminals in both features and packaging.

 
 

LG Mobile Phones and Verizon Wireless
The LG Dare, with its sleek, candy bar design, has a large, three-inch touch screen accessible at the flick of a finger. Features include handwriting recognition, a built-in 3.2-megapixel camera with most of the capabilities of stand-alone digital cameras, EV-DO connectivity for high-speed Internet browsing, VCAST Music, VCAST Video services, support for Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR, HTML Web browsing, turn-by-turn direction capabilities supported by VZ Navigator, an external 8 GB microSD memory card, a music player, airplane mode and USB charger.



 

Research In Motion and Verizon Wireless
Building on the success of the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone, Research In Motion recently unveiled the BlackBerry® Storm 9530™ smartphone, to be offered by Verizon Wireless. It's the first smartphone to feature support for both EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA networks, giving BlackBerry Storm users seamless access to high-speed EV-DO Rev. A networks and HSPA networks?for true mobile broadband global roaming. The BlackBerry Storm supports dual-band Rev. A networks, single-band UMTS/HSPA networks, and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.


 

Network Technology Innovation:
This award is given to the company that has introduced network capabilities that allow 3G CDMA operators flexible and cost-effective solutions for implementing advanced features and an easy evolution path to future network enhancements.

 
 

Alcatel-Lucent
The Alcatel-Lucent 9900 Wireless Network Guardian is the industry’s first mobile network management solution that resolves the challenges wireless 3G and 4G carriers will face in supporting the future growth of IP traffic. An entirely new product category, the 9900 Wireless Network Guardian provides end-to-end visibility into how mobile data subscriptions and services translate, in real-time, into loads on every layer of the radio access data network. With this visibility, wireless operators can enhance the data and applications delivery to their subscribers by optimizing network design and simultaneously identifying anomalous wireless behaviors that, if unaddressed, could degrade network performance, impact the subscriber’s experience, and potentially cause network brownouts/blackouts.



 
ZTE and Aircell
ZTE has adapted 3G CDMA systems to enable Aircell’s Gogo® Inflight Internet service. This allows a number of ground-based transmitters to communicate with 3G CDMA modems located onboard planes, which then provide cabin Wi-Fi coverage on commercial flights.

Innovation in Consumer Entertainment Services:
This award is given to the operator that has leveraged the capabilities of 3G CDMA to introduce a broad array of innovative and appealing consumer entertainment services (music, games, mobile TV, social networking, etc.) to the market.

 
   

IUSACELL
First launched on October 25, 2007, with four BREW devices, Copiloto Ubicacel was the first GPS application offered in Mexico. The service is now supported on 16 BREW devices, three BlackBerry devices and one Windows Mobile device, and is available nationwide. The service boasts more than 20,000 users and is growing at a rate of more than 100 per day. Maps include 3D and 2D views along with special options such as night mode or turn view. “Mi Posición” allows mapping of a current location within seconds of launch; Advanced Mapping retrieves information such as street addresses and points of interest; and Pedestrian Navigation supplies walking routes that are pedestrian-only, including written instructions.

 

Innovation in Consumer Entertainment Services Development:
This award is given to the application developer or content provider that has developed innovative and appealing entertainment applications or services (music, games, mobile TV, social networking, etc.) for 3G CDMA operators.

 
   
FusionOne
FusionOne has created the Handset Transfer Solution suite to deal with the increasingly important issue of mobile content portability, allowing carriers to offer to their subscribers protection against address book data loss should the mobile phone be lost, damaged, or upgraded. The Handset Transfer Solution transfers all handset content, including licensed and purchased applications, from one handset to another. The transferred content is accessible on the network and can be shared with carrier and internet applications by the subscriber.

Korean National Emergency Management Agency
The Korean National Emergency Management Agency provides disaster management services nationwide including fire, emergency medical attention and rescue needs from its 16 local province headquarters with 205 stations and 30,000 employees. Having implemented a gpsOne-enabled CDMA2000 mobile communications network, the agency now has the ability to pinpoint caller locations, access its nationwide database for victim locations, obtain contact information of relatives, and transmit critical emergency information and live video to assist responders transporting patients to hospitals.

This award is given to the application developer that has leveraged the capabilities of the 3G CDMA wireless medium to offer innovative mobile applications that enable companies to streamline their operations, increase worker productivity and achieve a compelling return on their investments.

 
   

Motorola
Motorola's next-generation Push-To-Talk (PTT) Solution leverages CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A, Enhanced Channel Access (EACH), higher forward and reverse channel rates and Multiflow Quality of Service (QoS), to offer consumers a competitive CDMA PTT experience, with latency down to around one second.
