Tata Teleservices is part of the Tata Group, that has over 90 companies, over 210,000 employees and more than 2.16 million shareholders. With an investment of over INR 9,000 Crore (US$ 2 billion) in Telecom, the Group has a formidable presence across the telecom value chain. The Tata Group plans an additional investment of around INR 9000/- Crore (US$ 2 billion) in this sector in the next two years. Tata Teleservices spearheads the Group’s presence in the telecom sector. Incorporated in 1996, Tata Teleservices was the first to launch CDMA mobile services in India. The company offers services under the brand name ‘Tata Indicom’ in eight key Indian circles comprising 70% of the telecom revenue potential of the country. With the major acquisition of Hughes Tele.com (India) Limited [now Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited] in December 2002, the company swung into expansion mode. TTSL recently acquired a universal access service license for 11 new circles — Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Kolkata, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West) and West Bengal. The company plans to launch its services in the new circles by September 2004. Today, the company serves over 18 lakh (1.8 million) customers in over 112 towns expanding to offer world-class technology and user-friendly services to over 1000 cities in 19 circles by March 2005. Tata Teleservices in one of the largest private integrated telephony services provider in India, its array of telephony services includes Fixed-line, Mobile, Fixed Wireless Telephony, Public Booth Telephony, Broadband and Wireline ISP services. Voice based Value added services include Voice portal, roaming, 3-way conferencing, Closed User Group (CUG). Data based Value added services include Wi-Fi Internet services and wireless data services such as downloading of ringtones, wallpapers and games through its state-of-the-art data portal. The company has recently become the first in India to launch a new service for its Corporate customers called Push-To-Talk™ (first across the world to partner with Qualcomm for BREWChat). This will soon be available as a mass-market service. Tata Indicom has also launched a collection of 1000 mobile games – one of the largest collections of mobile games in the world. The company has exciting plans to launch prepaid Fixed Wireless Phones and public phone booths, introduce multimedia handsets, expand Wi-Fi across public hotspots, new voice & data services such as On-demand multimedia, BREW games, picture messaging, polyphonic ring tones, interactive applications like news, cricket, astrology, etc. |
