Asia Pacific The Asia-Pacific region has been and continues to be at the forefront of CDMA technologies: in 1995, the first cdmaOne system was deployed in Hong Kong. In 2000, the world’s first 3G commercial network based on CDMA2000 was launched in South Korea and in 2002, the first mobile broadband services based on CDMA2000 1xEV-DO were introduced, also in South Korea. Today, Asia-Pacific is the largest region in terms of CDMA subscribers and it represents tremendous opportunities with CDMA2000 in China and India. The CDG continues its active involvement in the region with offices in Mainland China, Hong Kong and India. We collaborate with operators, vendors and regulators to expand the footprint of CDMA systems and to promote the availability of broadband wireless services. The focus of our current activities is to work with regulators on the 3G spectrum and policy matters and to advise service providers on technology and business issues, assisting them with international roaming services, handset sourcing, and interoperability. We also hold press tours and targeted events, and we participate in the major industry events to promote the benefits of CDMA2000 and its future evolution path. CDG Contact Details
Latin America CDMA provides a broad range of 3G telecommunication services to millions of people in Latin America and the Caribbean (CALA). CDMA2000 was the first IMT-2000 technology deployed in CALA. A new opportunity for wireless technologies has emerged in the region – universal access to voice and broadband, and CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO at 450 MHz (also known as CDMA450) is a leading solution for this market in CALA and worldwide. The CDG is committed to the CALA region. Through our regional office in Argentina, we provide support to service providers and the member vendor community in the region, and work closely with regulators and administrations regarding spectrum and policy issues. We meet regularly with industry analysts and media to promote the latest on CDMA. We have cooperation agreements with the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) and the Asociación Hispanoamericana de Centros de Investigación y Empresas de Telecomunicaciones (AHCIET), and work closely with other regional and sub-regional organizations. Africa The CDG’s Africa SIG was formed in July 2010, to support the unique requirements of sub-Saharan African operators including device availability, international and pre-paid roaming and applications development. With more than forty operators providing a nearly 80% footprint in a region with some of the lowest cell phone penetrations in the world, Africa presents tremendous opportunities for subscriber growth for CDMA operators. The key strategies and objectives of the SIG are:
