CDMA450 Special Interest Group (CDMA450 SIG)

The CDMA450 SIG team works with operators, vendors and regulators to expand the footprint of CDMA450 systems globally, paying particular attention to spectrum harmonization. The focus of the group’s current activities is to support service providers in their network deployment and expansion, identifying their key needs and to assist them with matters related to regulatory, international roaming, handset sourcing availability and interoperability. The CDMA450 SIG participates in major industry events to promote CDMA450 benefits and its future evolution path, holds targeted events and press briefings and generates position papers relating to spectrum harmonization.

CDMA450 is the most mature and widespread solution for economically providing mobile and fixed telecommunications services to both urban and underserved rural markets. CDMA450 offers carrier-grade telephony, broadband Internet and multimedia access across very large coverage areas, which enables lower deployment and operating costs. To provide equivalent coverage in rural areas, CDMA450 uses 70-75 percent fewer base stations than are required by a wireless system in the 900 MHz or 2100 MHz frequency bands.

CDMA450 deployments continue to rapidly roll out in many emerging markets such as Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Russia.
